The tennis section

The club boasts three all-weather tennis courts adjacent to the clubhouse building.  The clubhouse itself has separate changing and shower facilities for tennis players and players of all abilities and ages, and both sexes enjoy play both during the day and in the evenings when the full clubhouse facilities are available.

New members are always welcome - of any standard!   The 2010 new member's subscription is only £70 and you can pick up an application from the "Download centre" section of the website, or from the clubhouse.  If you've any queries about tennis membership please email us.  We'd love to hear from you!

Tennis court access [posted 06/07/10]

Tennis_ball

Keys are now available for tennis section members to access the courts area.  These are available for collection from behind the bar at the clubhouse in exchange for a £10 deposit, and upon evidence of membership.

Anyone with any queries on how to get a key should contact Keith Young (07802-951913).

For the avoidance of doubt, the key-access  system has been put in place, not to prevent play on the courts, but - rather - the opposite, with the hope being that it will encourage users to join the club rather than play for free, something that had led to a diminishing membership and numbers reaching such a low point that maintenance of the courts would soon become no longer viable.  The re-fencing has been carried out at a significant cost and is to also prevent miss-use of the cricket net-bay area - can we ask that members assist with the operation of the key-access system and - especially - do not climb over the fence themselves!  A new temporary tennis membership has also been introduced for casual users of the courts, £5 per session being charged for play.  Already this has generated useful funds for the club in the first week of operaton - please, if you see, people using the courts ask if they're members - if they are, say hello - and if they're not encourage them to join as either full or temporary members.  If the new system fails to generate new paying use of the courts then it is entirely likely that this year will be the last time they're cleaned and tennis membership will simply die out - over to you..

Done! [posted 23/06/10]

Done!  Not the cleaner, but the courts!  Finally.    The world's longest-running tennis court clean-up is finished!  The picture, left, was taken just before the final strip was power-hosed - and, we think, clearly shows the "before-and-after".  All three courts will be back in action now, and with the new fencing completed too, it's hoped the tennis experience at the club is significantly improved.

The ground improvements continue apace though, in addition to the new net bays and tennis court refurb', the sightscreens and spectator benches have been repainted and the ground's looking in great nick thanks to Adam's, Carl's and Tinus's combined efforts added to the great weather.  Good times!

Grounds works - update [posted 26/05/10]

Here's the latest news from Operation Tennis Court Improvement: the pictures below show the state of the tennis court clean-up, with Court 2 now finished and ready for play.  All (???) that's left to finish is one half of the third court - the one nearest the car park.  The other picture shows the new gates that have been installed as part of the re-fencing of the tennis courts.  Starting next week these gates will be padlocked with members getting keys in exchange for a £10 deposit.  The gateway is the only way in to the new cricket net bays and cleaned tennis courts and will hopefully ensure that use of these is restricted to members only.  More news to come...
