Panthers suffer first loss in the Sunday League [posted 15/08/21] It was Poloc versus West of Scotland, part 3 today, at "Shawholm", as the two clubs clashed for the third time in two days. Going in to today's 40-overs-a-side Sunday League match the side's had one win a-piece, Poloc having secured the "W" at "Hamilton Crescent" yesterday, whilst Partick came out on top against Shawholm on the southside. That game had been a run-fest, and today's match would be no different, to see 927 runs scored on the same deck inside 32 hours. First to use the track were the Panthers who'd post 232 for 7, a big total centering on an unbeaten 77 from Balawal Fahim, with support from Amaan Ramzan (41), and a cameo from Osama Baig (21). 43 wides also helped boost the score, but this shouldn't take away from the individual knocks noted. 233 to win therefore, a good run-chase if it was to be successful.
And, unfortunately for the Panthers it was successful! Contributing to the visitors' run-chase were 28 runs in wides, much less than they'd been recipients of, but still the difference between winning and losing. If only..... But, back to the second innings. After a couple of early breakthroughs, the Panthers bowlers toiled in search of a third, the third wicket partnership eventually being ended when it had reached 139. Deshmukh (70) was separated from his long-time batting partner Collins, James Cathcart getting him to hole out to Hunnain Sohail. But Collins continued on, apparently unpreturbed by having new teammates at the other end. And there were a few: Machana, Kaushik, and Marriott-Laurie all came-and-went, adding just 10 between them as a few jitters set in, before the visitors' skipper Farndale (4*) strolled out to join Collins (72*) to see his side safely across the finish line. 233 for 6, and a four-wicket win. For the Panthers - as would be expected - the bowling figures were, in the main, 18 Certificate, but James Cathcart did grab a "3-for" amidst the carnage, and Hunnain Sohail's 8-1-35-0 were the most economical figures returned. Win on the northside, sees the 'Loc record back-to-back wins [posted 14/08/21] The 'Loc returned from across the Clyde with 25 win points this evening, after defeating West of Scotland by 31 runs (DLS) in a rain-affected match. Batting first after being put in, the 'Loc slipped to 12 for 2 as their hosts made early in-roads. Sufian Ali (1) and Balawal Fahim (0) were the two batters out, both openers' wickets being claimed by Oliver. This brought Saif Sajjad and Amaan Ramzan together, whose first job was a rebuilding one. This they did, firstly settling the ship, and then pushing the total towards 50. The two looked comfortable, however under threatening clouds, and with the rain on, a rain-interruption saw their rebuild paused. In fact the players and officials would be off the field for some time, play not resuming until 4pm, by which point the game had been reduced to 31 overs each. When play did resume, the two 'Loc batters would continue where they'd left off, and took the score, firstly, to 50, then into three figures. Both reached their half century as their partnership continued. Saif Sajjad would eventually be dismissed with the score on 122, stumped for a well-made 54 (71). He'd put on 110 for the second wicket, and provided a base for Amaan Ramzan to accelerate over the remaining overs of the side's 31-over allocation. He'd finish unbeaten on 74* (75), with Kess Sajjad also getting a sheriff's badge, ending on 17* (9). 175 for 4, a total that would be adjusted up under DLS to leave the home side needing 179 to win.
The West of Scotland openers got their run-chase off to a decent start too, 48 being added without loss, until Hislop was stumped by Saif Sajjad to give Ahmed-Raza Hanif the first of what would be a brace of wickets. And the remaining momentum created by the West openers then evaporated, as 48 for 1 became 53 for 3, Young (16) holing out to Murtaza Syed off Kess Sajjad's bowling, and Page (1) being smartly caught behind by Saif Sajjad, again off the bowling of Ahmed-Raza Hanif. The 'Loc had snuck back in to the box seat, and the middle order now had work to do. Much would depend on home skipper, Fennah, and he quickly got in to his stride, going at more than a-run-a-ball. But around him, the wickets kept falling. The fourth would fall on 97, and then the fifth on 126. And, importantly, that fifth wicket was Fennah's. Bowled by Kess Sajjad, he'd made 41 from just 35 deliveries to keep his side in the hunt. His departure though sparked a collapse; 126 for 4 becoming 141 all out, as the last six wickets fell for just 15 runs. 141 all out, and a 37-run (DLS) for the 'Loc.
Kess Sajjad grabbed the match-winning wicket, trapping Lord (0) leg-before in the 28th over, to give him a "3-for", a haul matched by Imran Adrees's 3 for 19. Ahmed-Raza Hanif's brace came at a cost of just 11, as he returned the miserly figures of 6-2-11-2 to continue his impressive season's work with the ball. Saif Sajjad also added to his important half century with the bat, to claim another three victims (two stumpings, and a catch) in the second innings of the match. Any negatives? Maybe only the return of Mr. Wides to prominence, the 'Loc bowlers leaking 23 runs in this extras category, in under 28 overs. A good win, some good individual performances, but - as always - still something to improve on. [Scorecard]
Shawholm lose out in high-scoring north:south derby [posted 14/08/21] Partick were the visitors to "Shawholm" today, and, in a high-scoring match that would see over 450 runs scored, would return to their eponymous city district with the win after their hosts couldn't chase down 255 to win. Batting first, the visitors accumulated runs consistently over their full 50-over allowance, five batters getting into double figures, two - Farndale (46*) and Galloway (67) - making individually significant contributions. Actually another contributor matched Farndale's haul, Mr. Wides finishing unbeaten on 46 as Shawholm's bowlers' generosity reached new heights. [Ed': and don't mention the 10 runs in no balls!] Back to the Partick innings: 254 for 8 was the final scoreboard score, with James Cathcart the stand-out bowler in terms of wickets, his figures finishing as 10-0-51-4. Abdullah Malik, though finishing wicketless, should also be name-checked here however, as his impressive season with the ball continued, returning figures of 10-0-22-0, figures that meant his side wouldn't be chasing a really big score. 255 to win then.
The Shawholm reply started pretty well, and both openers - Hunnain Sohail (31) and Ali Raza Qazi (36) - would get decent starts. However both would, also, likely concede "not going on" was a frustration after having done the "hard yards". 33 was on the 'board when the first wicket fell. And it was still there when the second fell, Usman Amin departing without troubling the scorers. But these two quick wickets wouldn't trigger a collapse, and Osama Baig (45), batting at four, would be the innings' biggest single contributor, scoring the majority of the runs in what would eventually be a 77-run third wicket partnership. 126 for 4. Still not out of it though. 34 runs were then added for the fourth wicket, to see Shawholm 160 for 4. This though would be the high-water mark of the run-chase as the visitors' bowlers got to grips with the lower middle order and tail. No collapse, but reaching the winning post became growingly unlikely, then improbable, before becoming impossible. 208 for 9 was Shawholm's final score, 47 runs shy of their target. Another wash out [posted 10/08/21] The recent wet weather continues to claim victims, tonight's Evening League match against Victoria CC being the latest casualty.
Wet weather continues to frustrate [posted 09/08/21] After Saturday's wet weather saw Shawholm's away match in Dumfries washed out, Sunday's rescheduled Sunday League match at "Whitehaugh" went the same way. And, to reflect the "bad things come in threes" adage, monsoon-esque rain this afternoon saw the Under 12s' hopes of play this evening dashed. Here's hoping for an improvement in the weather as the week progresses.
Poloc secure second league win [posted 07/08/21] Batting first in today's Premier Division match against Dumfries at "Shawholm", after Imran Adrees elected to have first use of the track when the visitors' skipper McCutcheon called wrongly at the toss, the 'Loc posted 196 all out. Their 'card was really a tail of two cohorts: the batters who to double figures, and those that didn't, including two who didn't trouble the scorers at all. Of those who got in, there were notworthy contributions from Sufian Ali (27) and Saif Sajja (19), in support of Amaan Ramzan's 75. The 'Loc's total was also boosted by the generous donation of 24 runs in extras by Dumfries, 196 being the side's biggest league score of the season. Any downsides, notwithstanding the decent total? Only that the side failed to face eight of their allotted 300 deliveries, being bowled out in the 49th over, James Cathcart the last batter dismissed.
With rain threatened by the forecast throughout the day, and heavy locaslised downpours falling across the city, it was always going to be hit-or-miss [Ed': no pun intended!] as to whether a full game would get in. [Ed': and to evidence just this point, Clydesdale's home match at "Titwood", about half a mile away, was interrupted on numerous occasions, before eventually being abandoned.] "D", "L", and "S" were also, therefore, going to be three letters at the front of players' and match officials' minds as the second innings started. 74 for 1 saw Dumfries well-placed too, as they got off to a quick start in pursuit of 197, and to get ahead of the DLS par score. However two wickets falling on that score dragged the 'Loc back in to the game, and when another two fell with the total on 97, the pendulum had swung in their favour. A 28-run partnership for the sixth wicket reintroduced some nerves for the home supporters, however when that wicket fell, the run-rate slowed and the 'Loc continued to pick up additional wickets at regular intervals, until Robert Cathcart applied the final nail in the Dumfries coffin by bowling McCutcheon. 166 all out in the 46th over.
A good win then, with some real positives, not least coming out on the right side of a tight match. Good to bank what that takes, and involves. Another good bowling performance by the bowling unit as a whole too, was another positive, Robert Cathcart (3 for 31), Kess Sajjad (3 for 36), and Imran Adrees (3 for 37) all taking "3-fors"; and Ahmed-Raza Hanif returning figures of 10-2-29-1 to again play a key role in the middle overs putting the screws on opposition line-ups. With the bat, 196 was better, and competitive, but more bigger contributions should be the target, as well as batting the full 50 overs. Always stuff to learn. Next week it's West of Scotland away. Shawholm match cancelled [posted 07/08/21] An early morning cancellation, after forecast rain arrived in Dumfries, prevented Shawholm having to travel to "Nunholm" to take on the Dumfries & Galloway side in the Premier Reserve Division today.
Development XI versus Clydesdale [posted 04/08/21] A Poloc Academy (Development XI) took on near-neighbours Clydesdale this evening in a T20 friendly at "Shawholm". Ostensibly featuring Under 23 year old players, the sides were a mixture of experienced young senior players, and still junior players. After the toss, the visitors decided to bat first. For the Academy, James Cathcart and Hassaan Mehmood shared the new ball. And it was the former who made the breakthrough, in the third over, dismissing Cunningham. At the end of the power play (the first six overs) Clydesdale had progressed to 32 for 1, and had given themselves a good base. Tarun Koteeswaran and Faisal were the batters in the middle, and both looked to be in good nick. However the two would be separated in the tenth over, as Hasan Malik bowled Koteeswaran for 41 (32). 63 for 2, 44 having been added for this second wicket. Good as it was to get that second wicket, it would, arguably, be from the next over onwards that it would be determined just how big the visitors' total would become. Hamaad Anwar came in to the attack, and with him, spin made its entrance. The run-rate ground to a halt, and a third wicket was taken. Adam Ali also came in to the attack, and - like Hamaad Anwar - managed to put the brakes on the scoring rate. And so it continued through the third quarter of the first innings, these five overs seeing Clydesdale slip from 68 for 2, to 86 for 6. Anwar had picked up four of those wickets, his right-arm off-spin proving too much for the visitors' middle order. And when Abdullah Malik replaced Adam Ali from the River Cart end, it was spin at both ends, and Malik would end up returning figures of 3-0-10-3, bowling overs sixteen, eighteen, and twenty to finish off the innings. 111 for 9 was the final score, 112 to win. A good bowling performance, with the bowlers picking up wickets at regular intervals, and the outfielding and catching pretty good too. And in this regard, mention of Adam Ali whose direct-hit run out was a highlight of the first innings.
The 'Loc's reply started with Hunnain Sohail (21) and Calum James (14) getting the side off to a decent chance, being separated when James chipped a Shafiq delivery to mid-wicket. This brought Kess Sajjad to the middle. He'd then, effectively, manage the rest of run-chase, adding 20 with Sohail, then 46 with Hasan Malik (25), finishing on 35 not out alongside Abdul Malik (6*). It was a fairly regulation run-chase as run-chases go, with the Academy assisted by some miss-fields from the visitors' outfielders. But that shouldn't take away from a good performance, with enough to be encouraged by in both innings to see the value in these sorts of fixtures. Thanks to Clydesdale for sending a side. [Scorecard]
Clubhouse building refurbishment update [posted 03/08/21] The refurbishment work that's been underway at the club over the last few months continues. Today saw the start of the installation of central heating to the "Professionals House". Whilst the main clubhouse building has had central heating for many decades, the adjoining house - lived in by most of our overseas players over recent years - relied on electric heating only. The installation of double glazing a few years back improved the heating in the house, as well as improving its energy efficiency. The installation of central heating will accrue further benefits.

Panthers continue their good Sunday League form [posted 01/08/21] In today's re-arranged Sunday League clash at "The Tryst" against the Stenhousemuir, the Panthers kept their good 40-over form going with a convincing 107-run win over their Larbert hosts. Batting first the side posted 223 for 7, a total based around Saad Salim's half century (52), and good contributions from Balawal Fahim (47*) and Andrew Mallichan (39), the latter continuing his Saturday form. Ehsan Rafiq, who opened with Adil Munir (1), also chipped in with 23 before being run out. 223 for 7 was a challenging target to set the Stennie batters, and so the side went in to the break in good heart.
And that confidence would prove justified as they quickly made in-roads in to the Stenhousemuir batting line-up. 31 for 3 saw the home side immediately behind the eight ball, with Haroon Khan doing most of the damage. He'd finish with 3 for 40, with Saad Salim adding to his batting heroics with 3 for 11, bowling first change. There were also a brace of wickets a-piece for Ehsan Rafiq (2 for 17), and Connor Browne (2 for 6), as the Panthers pressed home their early advantage, and bowled out their opponents in the 27th over, for just 116. Spin and LBWs the tale of the game [posted 31/07/21] Today's derby at Shawholm was a low-scoring, at times attritional, affair, with both sides slow bowlers tying up batters, and rattling pads, and occasionally wickets. Between them the slow bowlers returned combined figures of 39.4-11-97-11, six of the eleven dismissals being LBWs, and three seeing batters cleaned up. But back to the start: after the toss the 'Loc were batting, Barbour having guessed wrong. And the 'Loc would then get off to a pretty good start. 86 for 1, and into the middle overs was encouraging, Saif Sajjad (33) and Sufian Ali (35) both going well, and looking settled. But it wouldn't last. 86 for 1 became 88 for 3, and the nerves set in. The spinners were on, and the scoring rate dived. 103 for 4 was next, and before you could say steady the ship, it was veering towards the rocks as wickets kept falling. 105 for 5, then 6, before a momentary pause for breath. 22 were added for the seventh wicket, but when it fell, the clatter started again: 127 for 7, 130 for 8, then 9, and, finally, 131 all out. Only Robert Cathcart (16) of batters four to eleven got past 6, with three not troubling the scorers. A really encouraging start washed away, and the good ship Poloc looking battered. 132 to win then.
Surely a skoosh? You'd think so, but not at 51 for 5, with the entire Clydesdale top five "back in the hutch"! Game on. Imran Adrees had done the most damage, grabbing a "3-for", whilst Murtaza Syed's leggies had accrued him a brace, and Ahmed-Raza Hanif - the 'Loc's third slow bowler - taking the other wicket to fall. But, unlike in the 'Loc's innings when recovery from a clatter of wickets couldn't be achieved, Mughal (53*) and Farid (33*), batting at six and seven for the visitors, not only steadied their boat, but, after steering it to calmer waters, then cruised it into the harbour berth named Win. 135 for 5 in the 39th over, and a five-wicket win. Defeat then, but some encouragement against the current league leaders. Both innings saw good starts, and the 'Loc bowlers again showed an ability to make inroads into batting line-ups. And, a much better wide count, only 2 runs being conceded in wides this week. Remarkable. But, of course, two good half innings won't win you a game, and so lessons to be learned about the importance of putting together more complete performances: batters who get in, going on. Somehow finding a way to keep the pressure on when the side has opponents in trouble. And, most crucially of all: finding a way to put together bigger totals, and batting the full allocation of overs made available. Today's 131 all out saw the side use only 41.4 overs. [Scorecard]
Shawholm lose out in high-scoring derby [posted 31/07/21] Set 210 to win, hosts Titwood raced to a seven-wicket win inside 34 overs as Shawholm went down to a derby defeat in Crossmyloof. The Shawholm bowlers just couldn't make the in-roads in to the home side's batting line-up, with dropped catches not helping the cause. Saad Salim and Abdullah Malik did get 1s in the wickets column of their bowling figures, and Hamaad Anwar executed the run out that was the third dismissal of the second innings. But the truth is that Titwood, after the quick loss of Farid, with the score on 1, never looked like not chasing down their target. And that target had been set in a first innings that saw, after Irfan Hanif had won the toss, and elected to bat first, Andrew Mallichan score 58, adding to decent contributions from Hasam Malik (28), Hunnain Sohail (25), Usman Amin (23, and Ehsan Rafiq (17). However - and it's a harsh school we know - each should be frustrated they couldn't go on and make a match-winning contribution. Getting in, then getting out, is sometimes the most frustrating. Hard word done, then,.....ooops. And the Shawholm 'card was really a 'card of two halves: five scores of under 9, four beings 1s, and four scores of 23 or more. Added all together, and lobbing in 35 in extras, and the first innings had seen 208 for 9 posted. However it wouldn't be enough, and Shawholm slipped to back-to-back defeats. [Scorecard]
Panthers lose in high-scoring T20 to GHK [posted 27/07/21] The Panthers lost out to northside rivals GHK this tonight in the Evening League, eventually being bowled out for 125 chasing 40 runs more to surpass the visitors' 164 for 6, set batting first. 17 runs in wides contributed to GHK's big total, but its biggest contributions came from opener Mirza (56), and Rasheed (37). The six wickets were picked up by four bowlers, with Saad Salim and Haroon Khan grabbing a couple each. 165 to win therefore. And, though the Panthers ended up 40 short of their target, they'd actually got off to a flyer, racing out to 62 for 2 after six overs. Awace Ahmed had been nipped out early, but Hunnain Sohail (46), Calum James (10), and Balawal Fahim (28) had kept the scoreboard whirling. But then the wickets started falling: 99 for 2 becoming 108 for 6 in a near blink-of-an-eye. Batters five through eleven mustered just 12 off the bat, and the side ended up 125 all out in the nineteenth over. [Scorecard]
Under 12s continue their winning streak [posted 27/07/21] The Under 12s gained revenge for their only defeat of the season, thus far, beating visitors Hillhead this evening by 8 runs in a closely-fought encounter. Played in glorious weather, the match saw Hillhad bat first and post 93 for 11. The loss of eleven wicket also meant - under the applicable pairs rules - that the Under 12s would start their reply on 44 for 0, 4 runs being gained for each wicket taken. The eleven wickets were shared around, but Muneeb Rehman was the standout performer, returning 4 for 8 in his three overs. Adam Ali (3-1-4-1) and Max Moffat (3-0-9-2) also bowled tightly to restrict the visitors' batters. In the field there was good stuff on show, from Muneeb Rehman throwing himself around to stop balls, through Max Moffat scurrying here-there-and-everywhere, and good catches by Adam Ali and Finlay Rumins, to Jacob Haw and Finlay Rumins tag-teaming seamlessly to execute a neat run out. So, 94 to win, and starting 44 for 0 was the half-time equation. However, of course, if wickets were then lost in their run-chase, the Under 12s' target would increase.
As it was, the side only lost six wickets as they, first, reached the Hillhead total, and then surpassed it. Last pair Max Moffat and Jacob Haw were both not out [Ed': despite Max's best attempts to run both of them out on more than one occasion - think Keystone Cops!], and "safely" saw the side to the win. Adam Ali, batting with Finlay Rumins, top-scored with 18, and Aaatish Venkatesan (12) also got into double figures, batting in the second pair with Zaviyar Abbasi. 125 for 6 was their final score, seeing the Under 12s win by 8 runs. Panthers get past Victoria in the Sunday League [posted 25/07/21] The Panthers ensured it wouldn't be a winless weekend with a one-wicket win over Victoria in the Sunday League today at "Shawholm". In what, perhaps was not unexpectedly, a rollickingly rumbustious affair, the Panthers dismissed their visitors from "Bellahouston Park" for 161 in under 35 overs, after being asked to bowl first. The wickets were shared around, with two each for Mudassar Khan, Saad Salim, Hamaad Anwar, Awace Ahmed, and Hunnain Sohail. Set 162 to win the Panthers would eventually sneak home with just the one wicket in hand, with Saad Salim (9*) and Hamaad Anwar (10*) holding their nerves to see their side home in the 36th over. The run-chase had, however, looked far less "in doubt" earlier on the innings after a reasonable start from skipper Hunnain Sohail (16), Adil Munir (19), and Osama Baig (37). But then a middle order collapse, with Humza Baig, Hasan Malik, and Sarfraz Malik mustering just 8 runs between them to see the result swing back in to the balance. Mudassar Khan - batting at seven - then steadied the ship as he got in to the twenties, however when he was dismissed for 23, and Irfan Hanif came-and-went for 1, it was down to the tail. But, fortunately, Awace Ahmed (11), at nine, then Saad Salim and Hamaad Anwar, at ten and Jack, had just enough to secure the "W". So, back-to-back Sunday League wins that sees the Panthers three-from-three in the league thus far. [Scorecard]
Shawholm winning streak ended [posted 24/07/21] Meikleriggs were the visitors to "Shawholm" today where their eponymous hosts were looking to extend their league winning streak. And after bowling their visitors out for 179, and sitting pretty midway through their run-chase, at 135 for 5, it looked like another "W" was on the cards. But no. Ahem, not so fast! 135 for 5 would become 150 all out as the side collapsed to finish 30 runs short of their target. Disappointing after the first innings' effort, and then the good start to the run-chase. Balawal Fahim (35) was again top-scorer, but couldn't repeat his heroics of the last two weekends, and a cameo 23 from skipper Irfan Hanif was also not enough, as only two other batters got into double figures, and seven couldn't get past 6. Not even 34 runs in wides from Meikleriggs could see the side home [Ed': that's waywardness of Poloc proportions!
But let's go back to the first innings. Meikleriggs batted first after winning the toss, and at 80 without loss this looked a great decision. However three quick wickets saw Shawholm right back in it, 80 for 0 becoming 89 for 3. And then, from that juncture, the Shawholm bowlers just kept chipping away and picking up wickets to see Meikleriggs eventually dismissed for 179. Abdullah Malik (8-2-25-4) and Elliot Moffat (8-1-27-3) were the stand-out bowlers, bamboozling the visitors' batters with their leg-spin. And 179 would prove enough as Shawholm's batters failed to fire for the first time in the last three matches. [Scorecard]
Mention, too, of a significant injury to Hasan Rafiq, who dislocated his knee whilst batting. No doubt disturbing to the others players, everyone was pleased to hear that his knee has been "put back in" by hospital staff, and Hasan is on the road to recovery. We wish him well, and a full, and speedy, recovery.
Poloc go down to heavy defeat at "Meikleriggs" [posted 24/07/21] The 'Loc suffered a big loss today, at a sun-kissed "Meikleriggs" on the Côte d'Paisley. Set a whopping 322 to win, the side capitulated to 103 all out, with the only batting plaudits going to Calum James who carried his bat amidst the carnage for an unbeaten 54. His innings included six 4s and two 6s, and was the exception-that-proved-the-rule as wickets fell around him at regular intervals. Murtaza Syed likely also comes out of the game with net credit, following up his "4-for" last week against Langside, with another four-wicket haul in Paisley, and a cameo 28 batting at seven. Albeit it was a tad more expensive - 4 for 71 - it did, however, see Ferguslie batters succumb to his leggies - two cleaned up, and two trapped leg-before. The rest of the batting 'card probably shouldn't be dwelt upon, as six players failed to trouble the scorers, their wagon wheels remaining spokeless. 103 all out resulted in a 218-run loss.
The big target set for the 'Loc included the usual extras dollop, this week's wides count rising to an almost improbably high 28! Five home side batters also got their "names in the 'paper", reaching 30, with Ferguslie skipper Henry top-scoring with 75 before becoming one of Murtaza Syed's victims. Representative selections [posted 20/07/21] Congratulations to Kess Sajjad on his inclusion in a Scotland A squad for their match against Yorkshire Academy at "Goldenacre" this week. Also playing representative matches this week - and another two-day match - are James Cathcart and Hasan Malik, both selected for the Western Warriors Under 17s who take on the Caledonian Highlanders at "Forthill" this week.
The Panthers make it a two-from-three weekend [posted 18/07/21] East Renfrewshire were the visitors to "Shawholm" today, taking on the Panthers in th Sunday League. Batting first after winning the toss, the Panthers used their full allocation of overs, posting 212 for 7. Balawal Fahim (69) continued his rich vein of form, and was supported by Ali Raza Qazi (66) who was up against his former club. Murtaza Syed also chipped in with a cameo 27, batting at five, as the Panthers set their visitors 213 to win. And East Renfrewshire very nearly go what they wanted, falling just 3 runs short of their target, to see the Panthers win by 2 runs. The wickets were shared around, but Saad Salim's 3 for 35 was the standout bowling performance, including the key dismissal of the visitor's skipper Ahad (49). Zaki Tariq also completed impressive back-to-back performances on his debut weekend of cricket for the club, returning figures of 7-0-25-2 opening the bowling in tandem with Saad Salim. [Scorecard]
Shawholm continue their winning run [posted 17/07/21] The Shawholm league bandwagon rolled on today, with an impressive four-wicket win at "Shawholm" over Albert Park. Set 176 to win, an unbeaten 70 from Balawal Fahim, that followed his 70 last weekend in the win over St. Ninian's, was the innings around which a successful chase was completed. He was supported by 37 from Ehsan Rafiq opening the batting, and a cameo 18 from Rizvan Ali at five. 176 for 6 in the 46th over saw the side across the finishing line with plenty balls in hand. A good chase.
The target of 176 set by Albert Park was after Shawholm had bowled out their visitors for 175. Abdullah Malik grabbed 4 for 32 as the Albert Park tail struggled, only 7 runs coming off the bat from batters seven through eleven. 38 runs in wides - the #PolocPlague - were, however, generously given to the side from Newlands, and 176 to win wasn't a shoe-in to chase down. But chased down it was, and the win sees Shawholm settle in the top-half of the table. [Scorecard]
The 'Loc lose out in low-scoring affair [posted 17/07/21] Set just 140 to beat Langside at "Albert Park", the 'Loc fell 17 short of their target, being bundled out for just 123. This was a disappointing end after skittling their hosts - formerly Weirs CC - for 139, with Murtaza Syed grabbing a "4-for" (7-0-26-4) with his leg-spin. In the field first after having lost the toss, the side made quick inroads in to the Langside batting, with a brace of Cathcarts again opening the bowling. And both Robert (8-0-33-1) and James (4-0-18-1) were in the wickets early as Langside slumped to 17 for 3. However the home ship was steadied somewhat and it was, at one stage, 106 for 3. But then a collapse akin to a drunk playing Jenga then ensued, and 106 for 3 had become 139 all out, with Murtaza Syed running amok. Imran Adrees took a couple of wickets amidst the chaos too, eventually returning figures of 7-1-23-2. 139 all out, 140 to win. Wide count? 22. Remember that number.
The 'Loc's reply got off to the worst possible start as the side made the Langside top-order's effort look half-decent. Without the services of their two top run scorers this season - Calum James (holiday), and Saif Sajjad (ill) - a re-jigged top order slumped to 17 for 3, a start that would not have been the plan, as the side failed to see off the new ball. Then some stability was restored as Sufian Ali (17) and Kess Sajjad (24) added 40 before being separated. 57 for 4. New batter in; loads of overs left. Breathe. Start again. But, not to be. 57 for 3 became 58 for 6 as dismissal followed dismissal. But then, again, the pendulum slowly started its journey back towards the 'Loc. 75 for 6. Past the halfway mark. 75 for 7, then 76 for 8, however, saw the pendulum stop its journey and return back from whence it came. Could the tail wag? 33 was added for the ninth woicket as the tail showed some fight. And Ahmed-Raza Hanif (19*) and James Cathcart (1) did all they could to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but would be separated 17 runs shy of their side's target. 123 all out in the 47th over. 17 runs short therefore. Under 12s win yet again [posted 12/07/21] The Under 12s' convoy drove through a sort of Arctic winter of torrential rain falling from a jet black sky to get to a,.....gloriously bright, sunny and warm "Glenpark" this evening to take on hosts Greenock in their latest Under 12 League match. On debut was Adam McNeill who stood in for an AWOL Muntaha Maqsood, and Max Moffat finally managed to convince his football manager the footy season was done and made his season 2021 entrance. Batting first, the side ended 99 for 8, the eight wickets falling being a blight on an otherwise good batting display. Adam Ali top-scored with an unbeaten 20, whilst Max Moffat was dismissed twice en route to 17. Those eight wickets, of course, also meant Greenock started their chase, for 100, with 32 runs already on the 'board. And the run-chase would go down to the wire, with the 'Loc eventually sneaking home by just a couple of runs, Greenock finishing up 109 for 3, and therefore 3 short of their target.
The 'Loc bowling was really a tale of two halves: Adam Ali (3-0-6-0), Max Moffat (2-0-3-0), Aatish Venkatesan (2-1-2-2), and Liam McNeill (2-0-8-0) were all super-economical, but their efforts were very nearly negated by some more wayward bowling from the rest of the bowling unit. But, in the end, the side snuck home, and this was credit to some good ground field that backed up the tight bowling that was on show. [Scorecard]
Shawholm record back-to-back league wins [posted 10/07/21]
Abdullah Malik got through ten overs - the only Shawholm bowler to bowl a full allocation - and his spell cost just 37. With three run outs executed - by Nabeel Khan, Elliott Moffat, and Hunnain Sohail - the home side became growingly jittery towards the end of their innings trying to "up" the score. So, a decent bowling display,.....until you check out the #PolocPlague column: 43 runs gifted in wides! The plague rages on..... Another washout! [posted 10/07/21] Like London buses it seems! You see none for ages, then two come along at once. After last Saturday's home match against Uddingston was abandoned at the innings interval, Poloc's hosting of Prestwick went exactly the same way. That said the 'Loc hadn't been set over 300 to win this time. Instead, after restricting their visitors to 184 for 7, they were targeting 185 for the "W". But, just 1.1 overs in to their reply, and 15 for 0, the match was abandoned, persistent, and at times heavy, rain ensuring no further play would be possible.
Looking back in a bit more detail at the Prestwick innings, for the first time we had the Cathcart brothers opening the bowling in tandem, their combined twenty overs returning figures of 20-3-50-3 for a more-than-decent return for the family! Imran Adrees was also at his economical best, his ten-over spell seeing him take 2 for just 23. [Scorecard]
Win in the Evening League over Renfrew [posted 06/07/21] The Panthers got off the mark in the Evening League this evening, with a five wicket win over Renfrew at "Shawholm". In the field first, the Panthers restricted their visitors to 132 for 7, with Calum James turning his arm over to great effect, returning figures of 4-0-21-2. Abdullah Malik, with 2 for 24, was the other home bowler to take a brace of wickets. In the reply, the side got off to a good start, with Calum James likely cememting a MoTM performance, adding 32 at the top of the order to his bowling display. His innings included five 4s. Three other Panthers batters got in to double figures, with Mudassar Khan top-scoring amongt this trio, with 27 batting at five. Balawal Fahim (17) and skipper Hunnain Sohail (18*) were the other two batters to get past 10. The winning post was reach in the twentieth, and final over, the Panthers finishing 133 for 5. A couple of washouts [posted 03/07/21] Both today's Saturday League matches were - literally - washed away by a couple of the localised thunderstorms that were a feature of the day's weather. At "Shawholm", the 'Loc were maybe thankful for the intervention by the weather gods as visitors Uddingston had racked up over 300 batting first. Including a remarkable 217 from opener Awais, the "Bothwell Castle Policies" side posted 329 for 6, with most of the 'Loc bowlers taking a hiding. Mention though for James Cathcart, who was making his competitive 1st XI debut, and, amidst the carnage, returned figures of 19-0-50-3, including the wicket of bludgeoner-in-chief Awais. James's older brother Robert must've thought his afternoon was also going, comparatively, pretty well, as his first six overs cost just 15. Awais, changing gears, then had different ideas, as overs seven through nine cost 52. And Robert's experience wasn't unique: Kess Sajjad's first six overs saw him return figures of 6-1-19-1, before seeing his next four go for 34. As skipper Imran Adrees looked to find a way to slow Awais down he would try seven bowlers, Murtaza Syed and Sufian Ali likely not thanking him for tossing them the ball with Awais in full flow, their four overs going for 34 runs too, and Imran himself perhaps wondering how his own figures of 5-1-16-1 ended up as 10-1-67-1. Sometimes it's your day though, and today was certainly Awais's. Well batted to him.
With the Uddingston innings finished (and it having included a couple of rain breaks, and an early tea), when the near flash flood hit, the officials quickly abandoned the match, with the 'Loc not having started their reply. [Scorecard]
Shawholm didn't fare much better over in Renfrew either, their match against hosts Dean Park at "King George V Playing Field" being hit by another thunderstorm earlier in the afternoon than the one that hit Pollok Park. Batting first the Shawholm openers had been skittled by the Dean Park bowlers, the side slipping to 46 for 4 at one stage. A recovery was, however, being put together by Hasan Malik (21*) and Abdullah Malik (6*), batting in the middle order, the two having added 34 when the match was abandoned. Again it was good to see two of the club's younger players contributing in senior cricket, Hasan Malik, in particular, continuing his run of good form with the bat. [Scorecard]
Panthers exit Greenwood Cup [posted 01/07/21] The Panrthers were dumped out of the Greenwood Cup this evening by Motherwell, as the club's curse of being unable to bowl straight again came back to haunt a side. Batting first, the visitors from Lanarkshire amassed 144 for 9 in their twenty,.....sorry make that 23 overs, as the Panthers' bowlers somehow contrived to gift 21 runs in wides, bowling eighteen individual wide deliveries! That was three extra overs for Motherwell to face, so the total cost of the Panthers' waywardness with the pink sphere was far more than 23. Ouchay! readers might think the wide problem's been exaggerated, but tonight's 21 wides took the total conceded by senior Poloc teams in competitive fixtures this season to over 250! That's in just sixteen competitive matches! And ten of the sixteen matches were T20s! It really is hard to win when you're giving your opponent a 16-run start. Anyway, back to this evening's match: amidst the wide bowling there was a hat-trick, extraordinarily enough. This rare sight was delivered by Saad Salim as he dismissed three visiting batters at the tail-end of the first innings. Motherwell, batting first, had posted 144 for 9.
Needing 145 to win, the Panthers got off to great start, with Calum James slaying the Motherwell attack all round "Shawholm". He raced to 41 from just 23 deliveries before his opening partnership with Hunnain Sohail was ended. 56 for 1. At the halfway mark the Panthers were still "up" with the rate, at 73 for 2. Zakir Siddiqui (2) had been the second batter to depart, leaving Hunnain Sohail with his third partner. Hunnain would bat through for an unbveaten 50 (46), but could really accelerate as the run-rate slowed in the second ten overs of his side's reply. And in the final analysis, the Panthers would finish 132 for 5, and a defeat by 12 runs. 12 runs, or just about half the wides conceded. They really do kill you. So another cup exit, and another case of what might have been, with some harikiri thrown in..... [Scorecard]

Shawholm go out of the Western Cup [posted 29/06/21] Partick came to "Shawholm" this evening to take on their eponymous hosts in the Western Cup. Batting first Shawholm would post 119 all out, being dismissed in the last over. And though they only missed out on four deliveries, in the final analysis what might those unused balls have cost the side? Four batters got in to the 20s, but as in other recent matches the batters "getting in" couldn't "go on", and Mudassar Khan (24), Irfan Hanif (21), Zakir Siddiqui (19), and Hasan Malik (14) will all likely feel frustrated despite top-scoring. Well, actually, Mudassar Khan was joint top-scorer, with Mr. Extras contributing 24 too. 119 all out was the final score, meaning Partick would need 120 to win.
In their reply, Partick got off to a poor start, Mills (2) and Lindley-Dawe (8) both being dismissed cheaply. 11 for 2, Imran Adrees and James Cathcart with a wicket each. But the early momentum couldn't be maintained by Shawholm, as bowlers three through six struggled to contain the Partick batters. None would finish with economy rates under 7-an-over, and 13 runs gifted in wides would add fuel to the fire of those four unused deliveries. Partick eventually got home in the nineteenth over, five down, to win by five wickets with ten balls to spare. So out of the cup, but what to conclude? mainly the two adages: 1. bat your overs; and 2. bowl straight. Simples. It's amazing how many games are won by sides that gift fewest extras, and bat their full allocation. Time will tell if this lesson will be learned. [Scorecard]
Under 12s win again [posted 28/06/21] The Under 12s entertained Prestwick this evening on a balmy summer's night. The visitors batted first and posted 93 for 6, with the 'Loc bowlers sharing the wickets around. There were two-apiece for Jacob Haw and Aatish Venkatesan, with Liam McNeill executing a neat run out. And though Liam McNeill, Adam Ali, and Findlay Rumins would finish wicketless on the night, their combined figures of 9-1-15-0 were, nevertheless, impressive, and reflected good, generally-tight lines.
With 24 runs already in their bag as they started their run-chase (4 runs for each wicket taken), the Under 12s knew that a win was within their grasp. However, though they would run out winners, it's fair to say that credit should go to Prestwick who managed to take nine 'Loc wickets, albeit at a total cost that still saw them end up on the losing side. Only James Sheridan (10*) and Liam McNeill (5*) were not dismissed, with Adam Ali (32) top-scoring despite being dismissed off the last ball he faced. Other contributions with the bat came from Aatish Venkatesan (18), and Jacob Haw (10). In the final analysis the second innings closed on 131 for 9, to see the 'Loc win by 38 runs. [Scorecard]
Shawholm sneak home in thriller [posted 26/06/21] Langloan were the visitors to "Shawholm" today, and decided to bowl first after winning the toss. And, less than 40 overs later, this seemed a pretty shrewd decision, Shawholm bundled out for just 137. And it could've been worse, save for a bit of middle-order backbone being displayed by Hasan Malik (27), Abdullah Malik (15), Jobanjit Singh (10), and Hasan Rafiq (10), that added to Saad Salim's 22 at the top of the order. That said, each of these five will be frustrated they did the hard bit, got a start, but were then dismissed without really kicking on. Langloan gifting Shawholm 39 runs in extras would, in the final analysis, also be absolutely critical.
Then in the second innings, with Langloan at 43 for 5, Shawholm were bang in the game, as the visitors' top-order struggled. And, still 90-odd runs to get. But then a few semi-partnerships: 75 for 6, 85 for 7, and then 97 for 8. 41 runs still needed though; advantage still to Shawholm. The rest of proceedings are where the drama was really seen. Langloan's run-rate all-but stopped, as they crawled towards the finish line - target 138. Overs 35 to 39 saw just 8 runs scored, as nerves became frayed. 28 was, though, added for the ninth wicket - 125 for 9. Now just 13 runs needed to steal victory from the jaws of defeat for the side from Coatbridge. 130 was reached - just 8 now needed. The match in the balance. But it wasn't to be for Langloan as Hasan Malik pouched a catch at "cow" to give James Cathcart a fourth wicket, and his side the "W". Langloan 135 all out; just 2 runs short of a tie, and 3 from a win. For Shawholm, good to get over the line in a tight game, with Nabeel Khan's "4-for" and Hasan Malik's top-scoring 27 in the first innings meaning the side's three youngsters had made the match-winning contributions. Heavy defeat in Stirling [posted 26/06/21] The 'Loc went down to a 95-run defeat at "New Williamfield" today, as the side failed to chase 257 for the win after bowling out their hosts - Stirling County CC - for 256. The home side's big total relied on their top order, almost exclusively, with five of the six middle-, and lower-, order batters failing to reach 5, and three recording blobs. But the damage had been done long before the back end of the first innings, with Shahzad (80), McMullen (64), and Booker (36) seeing their side to 179 for 3 at one point. Both McMullen and Shahzad notched up their runs at better than a-run-a-ball too, as the 'Loc bowlers struggled to make regular breakthroughs after dismissing home side skipper Tweedie relatively early on. There were, however, some reasonable bowling figures amidst the run-fest, Imran returning 8.1-1-30-4, and Kess Sajjad took 3 for 54. Ahmed-Raza Hanif's control was definitely missing, in the middle overs, with Sufian Ali, Hunnain Sohail, and Andrew Mallichan combining to bowl fifteen overs between them, and returning a combined 1 for 104. 256 all out, 257 to win.
The 'Loc's run-chase would then get off to the worst possible start as Saif Sajjad was trapped LBW by Shakoor with the second ball of over one. Calum James - who'd top-score with 57 - then put on 38 with Sufian Ali (9) before the latter was second out, the first of three wickets for leg-spinner Jones. And, unlike in the Stirling County innings, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, with - aside Calum James - 'Loc batters getting in, then out, too quickly. Robert Cathcart (13) and Hunnain Sohail (13) both reached double figures before departing, and Ali Raza Qazi made 27 batting at five. But the innings would eventually peter out, Andrew Mallichan (5) last out, leaving Imran Adrees (4*) wearing the Sheriff's badge this week. 161 all out, and a heavy defeat by 95-runs. [Scorecard]
Evening League opener ends in defeat [posted 22/06/21] Tonight saw the start of the 2021 Evening League, the Panthers travelling to "New Anniesland" to take on Glasgow Accies CC. After the toss, it was the home side who were batting first. And for Accies, opener Duncanson-Ward (40) would provide the ballast for the first innings total, as he batted almost as long as his name takes to spell out! And he was well supported by Shaikh (51), batting at four, who scored an unbeaten half century. Three wickets were taken by the Panthers, two for Abdullah Malik, and one for skipper Abdul Malik, the two also taking turns at 'keeping wicket! 128 for 3 was the final score, with Saad Salim's bowling figures of 4-0-15-0 being the most economical. 129 to win therefore.
The Panthers' run-chase never really threatened to be a successful one however, and after openers Hunnain Sohail (24) and Hasan Rafiq (25) had departed, aside Ehsan Rafiq (10) who batted at five, none of the other batters would reach double figures. 100 for 8 was all that could be mustered, to see the side fall 29 runs shy of their target. Under 12s beat East Renfrewshire [posted 21/06/21] What a difference a week makes! Tonight's Under 12 match against East Renfrewshire CC at "Shawholm" was played in gloriously warm and sunny weather, and the youngsters fairly rattled through their 40 overs! Compare-and-contrast with last Monday: dark, dank, and looooong! Anyway, to the actual match: the visitors batted first and would eventually post 61 for 7. This meant the 'Loc would start their reply with 28 runs (the seven wickets they'd taken getting them this number x 4 runs under the quirky rules of Under 12 pairs cricket. The seven wickets taken had been shared around the bowlers, Muntaha Maqsood being the only bowler to take more than one, her wickets owing much to two really good catches by teammates: Adam Ali at mid-wicket, and Rhuraidh Datta in the covers. There were also a couple of nice bits of ground fielding [Ed': yes, just like the youngsters practice!] that saw visiting batters run out. Adam Ali and Jacob Haw executed one each.
In their reply, the 'Loc youngsters did lose more wickets than East Renfrewshire, however they also scored more freely. Adam Ali top-scored with 23 (18), an innings that included four 4s, and he was given more-than-able support by Rhuraidh Datta, who scored a near run-a-ball 17*, including three 4s. In the final analysis the Under 12s would lose 9 wickets en route to scoring 106 for 9, to run out 9-run winners. [Scorecard]
Shawholm go down to defeat in Paisley [posted 19/06/21] It was a road-trip to Paisley today for Shawholm, who were in Premier Division Reserve action against Whitehaugh. Like Poloc who were at "Shawholm", the Shawholm side would field first. Whitehaugh's openers Gilmour (35) and Arbuckle got their side off to a good start as they put on 77 for the first wicket, and then Arbuckle (71) would add another 49 runs with Mohiagha (20) as the Shawholm bowlers struggled to make inroads in to their hosts' batting line-up. 126 for 1 at one stage, once the second wicket fell, things did, however, get better for Shawholm, and after 221 for 4, became "for 5", wickets fell in a rush, Whitehaugh eventually being bowled out for 230 in the 47th over, the home side collapsing [Ed': accepted they still posted a good total!] from 221 for 4 to 223 all out, and therefore losing their last six wickets for just 9 runs. Three Shawholm bowlers grabbed "3-fors": James Cathcart (9-1-27-3), Rizvan Ali (7.2-0-31-3), and Abdullah Malik (10-1-40-3).
Chasing 231 for the win, the Shawholm innings was in some sense the mirror opposite of their hosts'. At 21 for 4 the top order had succumbed, and getting to three figures was, bluntly, in doubt. However, as cheaply as the top order had given away their wickets, the middle and lower order dug in. Ehsan Rafiq (23), Abdullah Malik (27), Hasan Rafiq (24), Hasan Malik (32*), and Elliot Moffat (10) all reached double figures as their side got through the 100 barrier, and past 150, to eventually be bowled out for 167 in the 46th over. A good rearguard action, and enough to see Shawholm collect 3 losing bonus points - the value of which should never to be under-estimated! So some encouragement with the bat, but each of the batters who got in to the 20s will perhaps rue not being able to push on and make a really telling contribution, and take the game deeper, and the scores closer. Bar area refurbishment update [posted 19/06/21]
The internal refurbishment work in the clubhouse continues, today seeing the reframed photographs of Poloc teams from the past - both recent and much longer ago - rehung in the bar, alongside the new wall-mounted television. Thanks to President Kenneth Robertson for his work on this latest part of the project. We hope it's not too long until members, supporters, and friends from other clubs, will - once again - be allowed in to the clubhouse in the way they were until the start of the COVID-19 global pandemic, and the consequential restrictions that followed on from it.
Home league win over Greenock [posted 19/06/21] Greenock were the visitors to "Shawholm" today as one of the club's oldest Western Union rivalries saw its latest instalment. The visitors' skipper, McDougall, called incorrectly at the toss, and Imran Adrees had no hesitation puuting Greenock into bat. This looked like the wrong choice in the first part of the first innings mind you, as Flack, after opening partner Prabhu had departed early, put on 57 with Briggs to see Greenock to 71 for 1, before the 'Loc made the next breakthrough. And from 71 for 1 the wheels fell off the Greenock bus as 71 for 1 became 82 for 4, and then - after a brief respite in the clatter of wickets - 96 for 4 became 113 all out. Kess Sajjad had scooped himself a "3-for", and there were braces of wickets each for Imran Adrees, Robert Cathcart, and Waseem Ahmed. Mention in despatches too, again, to Ahmed-Raza Hanif whose figures of 8-1-18-1 were again exemplary. Flack had almost single-handedly seen his side to a respectable total, his 43 being only one of two first innings scores in double figures, with wides and no balls being gifted to the tune of 22 runs. 113 all out, and so the 'Loc would need 114 for the "W".

After the tea interval Ali Raza Qazi (12) and Sufian Ali (6) opened for the 'Loc, and the pair put on 25 for the first wicket. Their partnership broken, this brought Saif Sajjad to the middle, and he'd play the first of - arguably - the two match-winning knocks for the side. Eventually nicking off to the 'keeper, Saif made 32 (five 4s), and all-but saw the 'Loc to the winning post. However it would be left to Kess Sajjad (32*) and Calum James (2*) to do the needful, the side finishing 117 for 4 in the 37th over, and recording a six-wicket win. A good win, in what was - even this early in the season - an at-times nervy match between sides looking for their first win. Positives were, again, the economy rates of the bowling attack, and, pleasingly, a no-drama run-chase. The 'Loc lose out in high-scoring run-fest [posted 17/06/21] East Renfrewshire CC were the opponents this evening in the Rowan Cup quarter-final. Losing the toss the Giffnock side found themselves in the field. Opening for the 'Loc were Hunnain Sohail and Mudassar Khan. The two would have contrasting fortunes as the former departed for 2, whilst Mudassar Khan hit four 4s, and two 6s in his 32. Saif Sajjad, at three, then stroked a well-made half-century, before being bowled for 57, leaving brother Kess Sajjad (33*) and Robert Carthcart (12*) to see the side to 176 for 4. Calum James was the other batter to spend time in the middle, and contributed a useful 20 before being bowled by Shoukat. 176 for 4; eminently defendable.
Well, that is unless the oppo' openers start smokin' the ball to all parts! And this is what happened. Imran Adrees took some tap for the first time this season, eventually going at just under 7s. But the skipper's figures still looked comparatively good in the final analysis as none of the other bowlers went at less than 7-an-over. Mudassar Khan - the hero of Tuesday's Western Cup win at "Old Anniesland" - in particular, had a spell to forget as his two overs were bunted to all parts, and cost 35. Sometimes it's just not your day. Ahmed-Raza Hanif did take a "3-for", returning figures of 4-0-36-3, and made the important in-roads to the East Renfrewshire batting order midway through their reply to give his side hope. And, briefly, with five overs to go the 'Loc had somehow scrambled their way back in to contention reducing the visitors to 137 for 5. 50 needed from five overs. However it wouldn't be, and the roof fell in, in the nineteenth over, with East Renfrewshire reaching their target with nine balls to spare. [Scorecard]
Derby defeat for the 'Loc [posted 16/06/21] Near-neighbours Clydesdale CC progressed in the McCulloch Cup with a 13-run victory in this evening's southside derby at "Shawholm". Batting first, the "Titwood" side were restricted to just 113 for 7 in their twenty overs, with Imran Adrees continuing to roll back years with his slow left-arm bowling, returning figures of 4-0-8-2. The rest of the bowlers were more expensive, but none returned 18 Certificate figures as the visitors struggled to maintain any real momentum, as wickets fell at regular intervals. Mughal top-scored with a run-a-ball 22, with no other batters reaching 20. And, in fact, 113 was only posted in the final analysis, thanks to some wayward 'Loc bowling: 10 runs being gifted in wides, before taking in to account what might've been scored from the eight extra deliveries. Criminal really, and costly come the end of the 'Loc's reply that saw them finish just 13 runs short.
That run-chase never really got going with Clydesdale's Bashir tying up one end at the start of the second innings. Hunnain Sohail used up ten deliveries before departing without troubling the scorers, whilst Ali Raza Qazi faced 36 deliveries for his 18. Sufian Ali - batting at three - did give the innings a bit of momentum with 24 (28), and Kess Sajjad tried valiantly near the end with 18 (12), as did Jobanjit Singh with 12 (8), however even that was too little, too late as the 'Loc ran out of overs. So defeat it was, and opportunity to rue those gifted extras in the first half, as well as some scrappy outfielding that saw runs leaked. Out of another cup therefore, but tomorrow's Rowan Cup home quarter-final tie against East Renfrewshire to look forward to, and the chance to immediately bounce back. [Scorecard]
Shawholm progress in the Western Cup [posted 15/06/21]
The Shawholm run-chase would be spearheaded by Mudassar Khan and, making his debut for the club, Ali Raza Qazi. The two quite simply sprinted out of their blocks: 40 for 0 after four overs reflected that. And they didn't slow up to any meaningful extent, 79 for 0 being the score after eleven overs, and Mudassar Khan (pictured above, left) moving to his half century in just the twelfth over. He'd eventually depart for 57, a knock that included no fewer than four 6s, and six 4s, meaning only 9 runs didn't come from boundaries. Mudassar Khan's dismissal brought Zakir Siddiqui to the crease, and he (9*) and Ali Raza Qazi (39*) saw Shawholm across the finish line in the eighteenth over, and to a nine-wicket win. [Scorecard]
The next round, the quarter-final, sees Shawholm host Partick, who beat Milngavie CC this evening.
Under 12s lose to West of Scotland [posted 14/06/21] After a gloriously warm, bright and sunny weekend this evening's Under 12 match at "Shawholm" against West of Scotland was played in what can only be described as Baltic conditions. Under a slate-grey sky and in the teeth of a bracing wind, the Under 12s batted first against their north-side rivals. Adam Ali (20*) led from the front, remaining unbeaten with opening partner Finlay Rumins (5*) in their five-over stay in the middle. Running well between the wickets, the pair looked comfortable rotating the strike, and hitting bad balls for 2s or boundaries. Muntaha Maqsood and Jacob Haw wre pair two, and when they'd taken their side to the halfway point of the first innings, only one wicket had fallen. However the staunch defences wouldn't hold out through the second ten overs: no fewer than seven wickets were lost, as the visitors' bowlers took charge. In the final reckoning the 'Loc youngsters had posted [Ed': remembering the oddity of the scoring system!] 108 for 8. To the run-chase: as their hosts had done, West of Scotland's openers were quickly out of the traps with the bat. Broadley (21) and Sable (21) both got in to the 20s, and Rae (22), batting in the third pair, did likewise. Added to this the 'Loc just couldn't take enough wickets, quickly enough, to stay in the hunt for the win. And in the final analysis West of Scotland finished on 174 for 7, to secure a 66-run win. Members and guests day success! [posted 12/06/21] A big thanks to everyone who organised and took part in today's members and guests day. Blessed by glorious weather, "Shawholm" looked a picture as the Poloc versus West of Scotland Premier Division match formed the backdrop for fun and games, and food and drink, up-and-around the clubhouse, all taking place in line with current Government, and sportscotland coronavirus guidelines.
A special thanks to organiser-in-chief, and club House Convenor, Stuart Irons, the driving force behind the day, and so much more of the good development work being carried out at the club.
Double-defeat Saturday [posted 12/06/21] The 'Loc came back down to earth with a bump in today's first home league match of the 2021, COVID-19-affected, season. After the high of Thursday evening's Rowan Cup win on the road, today's home match, in front of a large members and guests day crowd, was the other side of the coin. An eventual 114-run defeat principally stemmed from a batting collapse after the side had bowled pretty well in restricting visitors West of Scotland to 205 for 8 batting first. A steady start to the run-chase from Hunnain Sohail (9) and Sufian Ali (7) that saw them all-but reach 20 without loss was then undone as a flurry of wickets saw the side slip to 33 for 5, after Calum James (3), Kess Sajjad (5), and Saif Sajjad (0) followed Sohail and Ali back to the clubhouse. Andrew Mallichan (17) and Robert Cathcart (19) then steadied the ship a little in the middle order, adding 32 for the sixth wicket, but after their partnership was broken, only skipper Imran Adrees (15*) put up much resistance as the side was bowled out for just 91 in the 30th over. This was 114 runs shy of the total posted by West of Scotland, and resulted in a heavy loss that saw the 'Loc pick up no losing bonus points.
West of Scotland's 205 for 8 owed much to the patience of opener Strachan, whose 52 came off 134 balls. Around his base, the other batters played more shots. Oliver's 39 (64), and Fennah's 29 (17) both augmented Strachan's knock, the former being another patient stay in the middle, the latter a more flambouyant one. For the 'Loc almost all the bowlers used bowled tidiliy enough, resulting in the target of just a shade over 4-an-over. Standout was probvably Imran Adrees with 3 for 30, whilst Ahmed-Raza Hanif again evidenced his capability at this level, returning figures of 10-0-27-1. Hi also chipped in with another run out, as did Andrew Mallichan whose nice pick-dive-and-throw saw Miller depart. Robert Cathcart's figures were spoiled late on with one expensive over, aside which his figures of 2 for 50 didn't perhaps otherwise reflect his overall performance with the ball.
So a defeat in their second league outing; and as at "Nunholm" last week, some positives. Batting the overs remains the challenge however, and with a busy period of cricket ahead the next opportunity to put that right comes soon enough. [Scorecard]
Over at "Hamilton Crescent", Shawholm were playing their first league game of the season, and would bat first against hosts Partick. The side all-but used their allotted overs, being bowled out in the final over for 161. Osama Baig (26) and Hasan Malik (24*) were the two highest scorers, Hasan, batting at nine, unluckily being left stranded at the end. Aside these two there were useful contributions from Murtaza Syed (19), Abdullah Malik (18), and Adil Munir (17), all of, however, will, likely, be frustrated they didn't score more having done the difficult bit and "got in". However 161 wasn't terrible, and the side were at least in with a shout of defending it if they had lady luck on their side, and bowled and fielded well.
However the Partick batters clearly were in no mood to give their Shawholm counterparts a sniff of the win, openers Corner (39) and Cole (73*) putting on a century opening partnership, and only - evntually - being separated with the score on 128, Elliot Moffat taking the wicket. No matter how skipper Murtaza Syed rung the changes with the bowlers a second wicket just wasn't forthcoming, and Partick ran out comfortable nine-wicket winners in the 22nd over, Jakobson's 19* being the only other home side batter score requiring to be added to the 'book. So a thumping nine-wicket loss, however as "Shawholm", there were some positives, young Hasan Malik returning from injuring and scoring 24 not out being an obvious one. Next up for the side is next Saturday's trip to Paisley to take on Whitehaugh. [Scorecard]
The 'Loc progress in the Rowan Cup [posted 10/06/21] Poloc secured a home quarter-final tie against East Renfrewshire CC in the Rowan Cup by defeating Renfrew by 51 runs at King George V Playing Field this evening. Batting first the side posted a challenging 136 for 6, with Calum James leading the way with a 31-ball 41 that included three 4s and a maximum. Batting in the middle order, he came in after Mudassar Khan (17, from fifteen balls) and Saif Sajjad (30, from 26 balls) had given the innings a good start, and after Sufian Ali had departed cheaply. Hunnain Sohail's cameo 29* (29) then added late innings accelaration to the run-rate finish nearer 7-an-over than six. 137 the home side's target.
And with a few club supporters watching the Renfrew CC livestream on Facebook, the 'Loc bowlers then looked to defend their side's score. Robert Cathcart and Imran Adrees set the perfect tone to this end, opening in tandem, and returning combined figures of 4-0-16-0 to restrict their hosts at the start of their run-chase. Kess Sajjad and Ihtisham Malik - the latter making a welcome return to Poloc colours - then bowled the middle overs, Ihtisham picking up the wicket of Malik, and Kess dismissing Abbasi. With ten overs gone Renfrew had been restricted to 51 for 3, and the 'Loc were very much in control. With some big overs needed therefore, skipper Mudassar Khan brought himself in to the attack alongwith Ahmed-Raza Hanif, and it would be the latter that would bring the game to an abrupt end by - twice - taking two-in-two-balls, and finishing with the remarkable figures of 2.5-1-3-5 to record a "5-for" for himself, and the win for the side.
So a win, and progression in what is believed to be the oldest T20 cup competition in the world. Next up, a home quarter-final tie on 24 June 2021. [Scorecard]

Under 12s get their matchday programme underway [posted 08/06/21] The Under 12s finally got some matchplay under their belts this evening, making the short trip over the river to "Hughenden" to play Hillhead. On a glorious evening, there was some good cricket on view, with a win eventually being secured by 44 runs [Ed': under the Under 12 competition's quirky rules!]. Batting first, in pairs, 153 for 7 was posted, with both Adam Ali and Jacob Haw getting in to double figures, the latter registering a nice maximum in his thirteen-ball 14. Running between the wickets was pass'able, but there's still work to be done on those old chestnuts: clear calling, and backing up.
For the Hillhead side, Wild, with 3 for 16 was their standout bowler. With 4 runs being credited to a side's total for each wicket taken, Hillhead started their reply on 28 for 0. However this advantage was relatively quickly reduced by some tight bowling, and the fall of early wickets. Six wickets were taken in the first ten overs of the home side's reply, with a "champagne moment" from Jacob Haw, being his catch at square, holding on to a hard-hit pull. #CreditTheCoaches In all Hillhead would lose fourteen wickets en route to amassing 109 runs (including the 28 they gained from their first innings efforts - hope you're all still following!). The 56 runs gained by taking the fourteen wickets, therefore, saw Poloc end on 153, and registering a 44-run win, with Hillhead finishing on 109. And, finally, mention to Hillhead's Rae, who ended up on the losing side, despite blasting an eighteen-ball 26 in his side's reply.

Opening day league defeat for the 'Loc [posted 05/06/21] "Nunholm" was the picturesque venue for what turned out to be the 'Loc's league opener of season 2021, after continuing Level 3 COVID-19 restrictions put paid to scheduled matchdays one and two. A side that showed no fewer than nine changes from the last Poloc team to take to the field in a league match (on 3 August 2019) found themselves in the field first after skipper Imran Adrees won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. This looked like it might've back-fired on the 'Loc skipper however, as the home side's openers put on 65 for the first wicket, having raced out of the blocks assisted by some wayward bowling in the first four overs. And when 99 was on the 'board with still just the one Dumfries wicket having been taken, it looked possible that the 'Loc might be chasing a big score. However three quick wickets then saw the side claw their way back into things, as 99 for 1 became 118 for 4. Brockwell (54) and Davidson (21) steadied the home ship though, and added the second, 50-run partnership of the innings, before the latter departed. 178 for 5, and ten overs left. The final ten overs saw the usual clatter of wickets as the Dumfries lower order looked to push their side's total past 200, and this they did, the hosts being eventually bowled out on the last ball of the innings. Kess Sajjad, who'd struggled with the new ball, returned to the attack in style, and did most of the damage late on, grabbing the last four wickets to finish with 4 for 31. Robert Cathcart (6-2-14-0) and Ahmed-Raza Hanif (9-1-35-2) also deserve mentions on the bowling front, both bowling tightly. 221 to win.
The 'Loc run-chase started really well. Calum James (12) and Sufian Ali (28) put on 26 for the first wicket, and then the latter added 65 with Andrew Mallichan (37) to see the 'Loc 91 for 1 at one stage, and still inside the twenty-over mark. However the second wicket - Sufian Ali being dismissed - sparked, as had happened in the Dumfries innings, a minor collapse: 91 for 1 becoming 107 for 5 as Andrew Mallichan, Kess Sajjad (10), and Mudassar Khan (1) all departed in just over five overs. It was now a tougher assignment to chase down the 221 required for the win. And the assignment proved beyond the lower order as only Robert Cathcart (17) got in to double figures, and the side slipped to 150 all out in the 42nd over, and to a defeat by 70 runs.
So an "opening day" defeat, but perhaps still positive signs: the bowling was decent enough, with a couple of tight spells from Robert Cathcart and Ahmed-Raza Hanif, and Kess Sajjad cleaning up the tail. And the start of the run-chase, along with Andrew Mallichan's 37 (50), gives hope that the side could post a competitive total in future games. [Scorecard]

Weekend matches cancelled [posted 04/06/21] Unfortunately Saturday's home Premier League Reserve fixture between the Shawholm XI and Dumfries CC's Nunholm XI has been cancelled, with the Dumfries club unable to fulfil it. Our thanks to Dumfries CC Chair Andy Reed for the early intimation of this, and we completely understand the reasons behind it. Sunday's scheduled Sunday League opener is also, to add to the disappointment, off, Renfrew CC requiring, instead, to play their rescheduled Scottish Cup first round match. It is hoped this fixture will, itself, be rescheduled for later in the season.
Revised cup arrangements, and draws [posted 03/06/21] The WDCU has released information on the revisions made to season 2021's cup competitions. All are now straight knockout competitions, and the revised draws have been added to the global fixture schedule. In the Rowan Cup draw the 'Loc will travel to Renfrew; the McCulloch Cup sees the club host Clydesdale in another southside derby, and the Western Cup redraw handed the Shawholm XI a first round bye, and they await the winners of the first round tie between GHK and Hillhead.
Intra-club T20 friendly [posted 02/06/21] Another senior intra-club T20 was played this evening, and it ended up being a useful, and competitive, match ahead of the weekend's opening league matches. The first innings saw the XI skippered by Imran Adrees post 131 for 6 in their twenty overs, with Robert Cathcart top-scoring with 46. He was given support by Sufian Ali (23) and Saif Sajjad (20). And for the opposition, an XI led by Mudassar Khan, Andrew Mallichan took the bowling prize with 3 for 20 in his four overs, a spell that saw him remove most the top order. Set 132 for the win, Mudassar Khan's XI struggled to really get going, five of the top six batters being dismissed in single figures. Only Ali Qazi, who top-scored with 46, looked comfortable, and despite Awace Ahmed chipping in with a cameo 27* down the order, the poor start saw the reply peter out and finish 115 for 8. Scottish Cup exit [posted 30/05/21] The 'Loc exited the Scottish Cup at the first hurdle, as they went down to a six-wicket defeat to Clydesdale at "Shawholm" this afternoon. Played in brilliant sunshine (see photograph below, courtesy of Clydesdale CC), but after the recent cool and wet weather that has been the feature of May 2021, the scoring, in part, reflected the latter. Batting first after Clydesdale guessed wrong at the toss, the 'Loc opened with Hunnain Sohail and Saad Salim. However the first wicket fell quickly, Saad Salim being trapped LBW without scoring. 27 were then added for the second wicket, 30 for 2 seeing Hunnain Sohail (10) depart. Zakir Siddiqui (12), batting at four, dug in, but no other batter, save Haroon Khan (10), would get to double figures as the 'Loc were grateful to their visitors' generosity in conceding 28 runs in wides to eventually post 75 all out. Five home batters didn't trouble the scorers in the runs column, and the innings had been wrapped up inside 27 overs.
Needing just 76 to secure their win, Clydesdale's start to their innings was almost as poor as the 'Locs, the visitors slumping to 46 for 4, as Imran Adrees rolled back the years with a destructive spell of slow left-arm bowling that saw him grab three wickets, and eventually return figures of 10-1-16-3. However his efforts would be in vain as the handicap of posting such a low score proved fatal, the "Titwood" side getting home in 24th over having lost no more wickets. With the Scottish Cup now in the past, the side await news from the Scottish Government on Wednesday as to whether league cricket will be start this coming weekend, the side scheduled to travel to Dumfries.
Another Under 12 match cancelled! [posted 29/05/21] The Under 12s' bad luck continued, with Helensburgh confirming they will not be able to fulfil Monday's scheduled match. Disappointing though that is, it's understandable in the strange times we are all operating in, and the Under 12s look forward to their next scheduled match, away at "Hughenden" against Hillhead, on the 7th of June.
A 'Loc XI lose narrowly to Glasgow University [posted 29/05/21] With Glasgow still under Level 3 COVID-19 restrictions, WDCU league and cup matches remain void, and so this afternoon's match was a friendly against Glasgow University, with players on both sides being selected from those resident in the city. Batting first the 'Loc XI posted 149, thanks in the main to 49 from Kess Sajjad, who was well supported by Murtaza Syed (32), before Sarfraz Malik chipped in with a useful 18 not out towards the end. Set 150 to win the University side started well, with skipper Farndale (42) anchoring their reply, and number three Mav Lehal contributing a useful 40. However after the good start, the visitors' inings ran in to trouble, and they needed an unbeaten 12 from number ten Davenport to see them home with just one wicket in hand. For the 'Loc XI Murtaza Syed added to his 32 with 4 for 30 to, arguable, earn the MoTM plaudits. [Scorecard]
Today's match was the club's last friendly before tomorrow's re-arranged - Glasgow-resident players-only - Scottish Cup first round tie against Clydesdale.
Intra-club T20 friendly [posted 26/05/21] The wet weather again relented to allow an intra-club T20 to be played this evening, ahead of the hoped-for start of competitive cricket this weekend, the Scottish Cup first round tie having been confirmed for "Shawholm" on Sunday. Tough day at the office [posted 22/05/21] It was the proverbial game of two halves at "Shawholm" today as a pretty good first innings display from a Poloc XI saw visitors Langside CC bowled for 173 in 40 overs, before a batting collapse for the ages saw the side skittled for just 29. Back to the first half though: Hunnain Sohail was "destroyer-in-chief" with cheeky wee "5-for", returning figures of 8-2-27-5 with his right-arm off spin, and tearing the heart out of the visitors' middle order. For Langside, Khan, at the top of the order, top-scored with 31, whilst two other batters - Kamran (28), and Ramzan (24) - got in to the twenties. Aside Hunnain's eye-catching return, Ahmed-Raza again showed his quality returning figures of 10-0-35-0, adding two catches to a solid first innings performance. And Andrew Mallichan, in action for the first time in a 'Loc shirt, and captaining the side, took 2 for 23 in his five-over spell.
In their reply however it was a completely different story as Langside's experienced attack of Afzal, Shah, and Ali, rolled back the years with three wickets-a-piece, and quite literally blew the 'Loc batting line-up away. After a careful start that saw double digits reached without any alarm, 10 for 0 suddenly became 20 for 6, as batter-after-batter came-and-went without troubling scorer-for-the-day Connor Browne too much. Robert Cathcart top-scored with just 7, and three home batters added themselves to the this season's "Webbed Feet Award" table with blobs. 29 all out. Ouch! Monday's Under 12 match off [posted 22/05/21] Greenock CC has confirmed that they will not be travelling in to Glasgow - under Level 3 COVID-19 restrictions - on Monday for the scheduled Under 12 match at "Shawholm". It is hoped the match can be resheduled.
The weekend ahead [posted 21/05/21] With league and cup cricket still postponed, with Glasgow remaining under COVID-19 Level 3 restrictions, a friendly against Langside CC (formerly Weirs CC) has been arranged for Saturday. With a 12 noon start, the match will feature only players resident in the Glasgow City Council area to be compliant with the restrictions on movement between Level 3 and Level 2 areas.
Cancellation of league and cup matches [posted 17/05/21] The WDCU has, reflecting Glasgow City Council area remaining under Level 3 restrictions, cancelled all league and cup matches scheduled for the seven days commencing today, the 17th of May. In addition, Cricket Scotland has postponed the scheduled Scottish Cup first round tie againast Clydesdale on Sunday the 23rd of May, for the same reason. With Glasgow City-based players allowed to move around the city's Council area, but not travel into/ourt of adjoining areas, a friendly against Langside CC (formerly Weirs CC) has been arranged for Saturday the 22nd instead, with Glasgow City Council-resident players eligible to play on both sides. The match will start at 12 noon, and is 50 overs-a-side.
Cricket is back,.....at least for a day! [posted 15/05/21] East Renfrewshire were the opponents as a Poloc XI, led by Irfan Hanif, kicked off the 2021 season at "Shawholm". Batting first after a drizzly morning, the side posted 123 all out in tricky conditions. Rob' top-scored with 39, with Hunnain chipping in with 30. Aside these two, and notwithstanding the side being 83 for 1 before the second wicket fell, only Sarfraz (12), batting at seven, got in to double figures. The visitors' run-chase proved no easier however, and though the 'Loc XI would only take two wickets, the finishing line wasn't reached until in to the 39th over, East Renfrewshire eventually securing an eight-wicket win. The relief at getting cricket restarted today, after such a long time was, however misplaced with news this evening from the WDCU that Glasgow City remaining in Level 3 from Monday has resulted in all senior cricket under their jurisdiction being called off for the following seven days. Cricket Scotland has yet to opine on next Sunday's scheduled Scottish Cup tie, and the club awaits the national governing body's determination.
Eid Mubarak! [posted 12/05/21] As the month of Ramadan comes to an end, we wish Eid Mubarak! to all connected with the club, and their families and friends, who are now celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

Senior training returns [posted 29/04/21] After a false start on Tuesday [Ed: yes, the #Scottishsummer struck!] tonight saw the first senior training session. Under the careful eye of COVID Monitor, and new Head of Senior Cricket, Andrew Mallichan, a hardy bunch braved drizzle and chilly temperatures to blow away some cobwebs. Senior training - still operating in compliance with current Government COVID-19-related guidelines - is now on, bi-weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Players are, however, reminded that they can not, as yet, use the club's practice facilities on an ad hoc basis, and all training much be pre-approved by Andrew Mallichan.
Junior fixtures [posted 28/04/21] With our junior players back training, there was more good news for the club's youngest cricketers with the Western District Junior Cricket Union publishing its league fixtures. The club's Under 12s will start their 2021 season on Monday the 17th of May, Monday being the side's regular matchday. The fixtures can be found online.

New Head of Senior Cricket [posted 19/04/21] Andrew Mallichan has taken on the role of Head of Senior Cricket, and will oversee the senior cricket section's activities this year. Andrew, who was elected to the General Committee at the 2020 Annual General Meeting, takes over from Josh Sajjad who has stood down from the role. Clubhouse refurbishment update [posted 19/04/21] This week sees the continuation of the clubhouse refurbishment, and redecoration, with today's focus of attention being the home changing room. After the removal of the old wooden lockers, the redecoration of the enlarged space started this morning.
Restart of junior cricket training [posted 18/04/21] A reminder that this week sees our junior cricket coaching and training restarting. Thursday the 22nd of April is the day. The sessions will then run each Thursday evening after this, at the club's ground, "Shawholm", between 6pm and 7pm with coaches Keith Sheridan and Keith Young. Parents of registered children in the Under 13 age-group have been contacted on the WhatsApp message group by Junior Convenor Grant Cathcart, and we will continue to remind them over the course of the week. Parents are also reminded that they should update their children's registered details with the club, and can do this using the online webform. This is an important part of the club's overall care and management of its junior players.
New children are warmly invited to the first session on the 22nd, and returning youngsters are encouraged to bring friends, neighbours, and/or other family members to start playing with us.

Scottish Cup draw [posted 14/04/21] Cricket Scotland released the Scottish Cup draw this afternoon, and the 'Loc have been drawn, at home, against Clydesdale. The tie's scheduled for Sunday, 23 May 2021. The full draw's online, here.

Western Warriors selections [posted 04/04/21] Congratulations to James Cathcart and Hasan Malik, both of whom have been included in the Western Warriors Under 17 training squad. With a return to cricket activities allowed under the recent relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, the squad has recommenced training, after a winter where no indoor activity was permitted. The club is also pleased to support the Warriors group that is using "Shawholm" as a training base.

New Bodyfit gym space [posted 31/03/21] The newly-created BodyFit fitness section gym space in the clubhouse is really beginning to take shape. After the completion of the main works, the specialised flooring is now down, and the equipment is beginning to be delivered. All looking good, and credit to House Convenor Stuart Irons for his masterminding this great new space.
Ground preparation work [posted 22/03/21] Adam Richardson and his team have been hard at work, with pre-season ground preparation work being well-advanced, assisted by the recent drier, and warmer, weather. Sunday saw the familiar broad stripes make their 2021 entrance as outfield cutting was carried out in the mid-March sunshine.
Clubhouse refurbishment works [posted 18/03/21] As those of you who are followers on the club's various social media channels will have seen there has been a lot of refurbishment work going on at the club, in the clubhouse and adjoining Professional's house (pictured below). House Convenor Stuart Irons has been the man-in-charge, and a big vote of thanks is due to Stuart for his work. The work is ongoing, and has seen the opening up of two of the back-rear rooms for use by the BodyFit fitness section.

Annual General Meeting, 2020 [posted 27/01/21] The club's 142nd Annual General Meeting was held this evening, using the Zoom video-meeting platform. All the required business was attended to, including the approval of Convenors' reports, election of office bearers, and adoption of the club's accounts. Kenneth Robertson was re-elected club President, with other changes including Grant Cathcart taking on the Junior Convenor's role, and Andrew Mallichan joining the General Committee. Thanks to all those members, and parents of juniorts, who attended.

The "Shawholm Shack" - takeaway hot drinks, soup, and snacks [posted 03/01/21]
The club's great new takeaway service - offering coffees, teas, other hot drinks and soup, and a selection of snacks, has been doing a raring trade, providing much-needed warmth and sustenance to park visitors. A new initiative in these COVID-19-restricted times, it's been a way of retaining the club's connection with its local community, and complements the revitalised Winter Golf section. If you've not been down to "Shawholm" in recent weeks, why not pop along, say hello, and warm yourself with something from the "Shawholm Shack"!
