Under 11s lose out [posted 15/12/19]

The Under 11s enjoyed more crash, bang, wallop Kwik Cricket this morning, taking on East Kilbride and East Renfrewshire in the final two matches of the indoor competition before Christmas.  Following the two wins on their last outing hopes were high for another win, but as it was the side lost out in both matches - East Kilbride were winners by 22 runs, and East Renfrewshire came out on top by 57 runs.  Thanks, as always, to the organisers and coaches - the Under 11 indoor matches have been great fun, and have been enjoyed immensely by the players.

Latest "Kwik Cricket" news [posted 03/11/19]

Under_11s_031119

Our Under 11s were back in indoor "Kwik Cricket" action this morning, taking on the Hillhead|West of Scotland combined side and Clydesdale at Uddingston Grammar School Sports Hall.  First up was the clash with the combined side, the Poloc youngsters taking two wickets as Hillhead|West of Scotland scored 50.  Then in their reply the side lost one more wicket than their opponents whilst managing 34 off the bat.  This left the final scores 62 and 42 respectively, the combined side taking the win.

The second match, as last week, was a closer affair, the 'Loc youngsters just missing out on the win as Clydesdale ended up on 53 to their 50.  Both sides took four wickets, the Titwood Under 11s scoring 37 runs to Poloc's 34.

Great fun again though, and thanks to Imran Ameer for managing the side today and sending on the match scores and team photo'.

Indoor Under 11s in "Kwik Cricket" action [posted 27/10/19]

The Under 11s (pictured, below) were in six-a-side indoor "Kwik Cricket" action today, taking on East Renfrewshire and East Kilbride this morning in the round of matches in the winter's programme. First up was the match against East Renfrewshire.  Batting first the Poloc youngsters scored 39 for 5 in their six overs, their opponents scoring 60 for 3 in theirs.  With 4 runs being gained for taking an opposition wicket this left the respective scores as 51 played 80, the "Woodfarm Pavilion" youngsters recording the W.

Under_11s_271019

Then in game two, against East Kilbride, the side posted an improved 48 for 4, though would still end up on the losing side as their opponents scored 46 for 1.  And so despite scoring more runs off their bats, East Kilbride's loss of just the one wicket saw the final scores as 52 played 60.  Good fun all round though, and good to get the winter's indoor programme up-and-running.  The Under 11s are back in action again next Sunday morning when they take on the Hillhead|West of Scotland combined side and Clydesdale, again at Uddingston Grammar School.

Surprise, surprise! [posted 31/08/19]

Yes, today's match was cancelled because of the rain! #Scottishsummer Also off already is Sunday's Academy versus Ayr match, "Shawholm" being completely waterlogged.

Weekend action [posted 29/08/19]

After another washout week as far as matches was concerned - the Under 16s' match versus Clydesdale failing to get started last night - Saturday sees the final senior match of season 2019, Shawholm travelling to "Nunholm" to take on their eponymous hosts in the league.  It's a 12 noon start, and the team selection is online once confirmed.  Sunday's fixture is the final scheduled Sunday League match of 2019, with Ayr the visitors, hosted by the Academy.

Shawholm thumped [posted 24/08/19]

WDCU_logo

Shawholm slumped to a 90-run defeat today, losing heavily to Whitehaugh at home.  However despite the big margin of the loss, this really was the proverbial "game of two halves".  Winning the toss, the visitors from Paisley batted first, but after their openers put on a half century for the first wicket they were then rolled for 127 with Bogey taking a "5-for" to see his name added to the Honours Board.

So 128 to win.  And, even on a predictably tricky deck - given the horrendous weather there's been - 37 all out probably reflects a pretty poor effort with the bat.  No-one got to double figures, and it was all over pretty quickly!  A day at the office to forget.  Mind you, at least they didn't wait around for hours watching grass grow.....  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

The latest league tables are also online.

Déjà vu......all over again [posted 24/08/19]

For what seemed like the umpteenth time this season, the 'Loc had the double frustration of hanging around for hours when there seemed no chance of play, and then being informed.....there was no chance of play!  Today's location was "Glenpark" where, despite the best efforts of groundstaff in the days leading up to today, and today, the weather that has completely blighted season 2019 had left the bowler's take-off area and pitch unplayable.  And so, after a fourth inspection at 2pm it was back up the M8 for the convoy.

Under 16s exit Scottish Cup [posted 23/08/19]

The Under 16s went down to defeat this evening at "Titwood", losing to Clydesdale in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup.  After bowling their hosts out for 115, the side's reply started positively, Hasan Malik and Zakir putting on 28 for the first wicket.  However Zakir's departure saw what had been a steady accumulation of runs dry up, and as batters struggled to rotate strike wickets started to fall at regular intervals.  38 for 4 would end up 68 for 8 as none of the batters aside Zakir (16) and Hasan (15) got in to double figures.  So a disappointing end to what had been a good half-time position, dismissing Clydesdale for just 115 giving the side a chance of victory.  Standouts with the ball in the first half were Jamesy (4-0-2-2) and Nabeel (4-0-16-2), with the bowlers being backed up well in the field by their teammates.  Moiz pouched two good catches in the deep, and there were three well executed run outs.  Scorecard

Weekend action [posted 22/08/19]

Saturday sees both senior sides in action with Shawholm hosting Whitehaugh and Poloc travelling to "Glenpark" to take on Greenock.  Before that there's also an Under 16 match to be played, tomorrow night seeing the latest attempt to get the Scottish Cup quarter-final with Clydesdale played.  Starting at 5.30pm, the match is being played at "Titwood".  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Evening League match off [posted 20/08/19]

Tonight's Evening League match between the Academy side and Hillhead, ironically rescheduled after last Tuesday's match was rained off, is off because of yet more rain.

Under 16s the latest to miss out [posted 19/08/19]

The Under 16s' rescheduled league match against the combined Irvine|Prestwick side was the latest of the club's sides to suffer at the hands of the weather, their match being cancelled early this morning with Prestwick's ground still unplayable.

Another,.....yes, another complete washout! [posted 17/08/19]

There were no matches completed today in the Western Union Premier Division, three matches not getting started - including the 'Loc's hosting of East Kilbride - and the two that started lated didn't finish.  Is this the wettest, or at least most weather-affected, season ever?  Shawholm at least avoided either the disappointment of a cancellation, or the soul-destroying frustration of waiting around and then not getting a game completed, as it had an official bye week.  The next action, weather-permitting, is Monday's senior practice and the Under 16's rescheduled trip to "Henry Thow Oval" the same evening.

Weekend action [posted 15/08/19]

Saturday has only one scheduled senior match, with the Shawholm side having a bye week.  This leaves Poloc 's hosting of East Kilbride as the only game, assuming the ground recovers from the beating it's taken from the weather.  Sunday is a free matchday, with the scheduled Sunday League match at "Albert Park" postponed at the request of Weirs.  This means that after Saturday's match the next game for the club is Monday's rescheduled Under 16 match at "Henry Thow Oval" against the Irvine|Prestwick combined side.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Still it rains [posted 14/08/19]

Yet another match was swept away by the wet weather today, this time the Under 16 Scottish Cup tie against Clydesdale.  Unfortunately another day of heavy and persistent rain means the ground remains completely waterlogged and a bit of a quagmire, groundsman Scott McCutcheon having to abort attempts to cut the outfield yesterday, far less prepare a pitch today, when no work at all was possible!  The last time the club managed to get a game played at "Shawholm" was the 3rd of August, and we've only managed one since the 23rd of July!!  Sadly, too, there seems little consolation to be found in the forecasts that an end to this wet weather is in sight.  #Scottishsummer

Rained off! [posted 13/08/19]

Both this evening's Evening League matches were cancelled because of the weather, the away match at "Hughenden" and the home game against Ayr.  "Shawholm" remains waterlogged after Sunday's flooding after the River Cart burst its banks (see below).

Flooding_August_2019

Flooded! [posted 11/08/19]

For the first time in current members' memories, "Shawholm" ended up as a flood plain for the River Cart during the season, as the river burst its banks early this evening following a day of torrential rain.

At the other end of the ground, the smaller river similarly came up on to the area around the scorebox and groundsman's storage shed.  #Scottishsummer indeed!

Wash out! [posted 10/08/19]

Both today's senior Saturday league matches were cancelled because of the weather.  End of.

Weekend action [posted 09/08/19]

Saturday's two senior matches see Poloc travel to "Langloan" to play Drumpellier and Shawholm host Cambusdoon.  Both games start at 12 noon.  The Sunday League match against Renfrew has been postponed in view of Eid falling on Sunday, which means Monday's Under 16 match at "Marress" against Irvine is the next scheduled game.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Representative selections [posted 06/08/19]

Amidst the miserable weather there have been some bright spots, and some 'Loc players have managed to get some cricket.  Craig Young featured in the Western Warriors two recent T20 Blitz games against the Eastern Knights at Grange; Muhammad Dar, Amaan Ramzan, Kess Sajjad and Ahmed-Raza Hanif played for the Western Warriors Development XI in their win over the touring Ulster Schools (that match being hosted - against the odds! - at "Shawholm" yesterday; Rambo then featured again in a WDCU Under 21 Select XI that took on the touring Northern Irish side at "Hamilton Crescent" (a match abandoned!); and Abdul Malik and Zakir Siddiqui played in the Western Warriors Under 16 side that beat the Caledonian Highlanders at "Lochlands" in Arbroath today.  Tomorrow also sees Rambo and Raza joined by Zaighum Ahmad in Western Warriors Development XI T20 action at a quadrangular tournament at Stirling County CC's "New Williamfield" ground.

Wash-outs [posted 06/08/19]

This week has seen a near complete wash-out of fixtures, with Monday's Under 12 match being cancelled, following Sunday's cancellation, and this evening's two Evening League matches both being weather victims.

Double defeat Saturday [posted 03/08/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc again slumped to a league loss today, though this week the margin of defeat was just the one wicket as they just couldn't get Stirling County's final wicket to secure an unlikely win whilst defending 123.  The low score had seen the side recover, bizarrely, from 30-odd for 5, with only Rambo (38) of the top five batters getting in to double figures.

Then in the second innings there were "3-fors" for Raza and Yasar, and a brace of wickets for Ziggy as the Houdini act was nearly performed.  Oh, and of course, 27 conceded in wides didn't help the 'Loc's cause either!  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Over in Coatbridge Shawholm weren't faring much better: skittled for just 78, their ten-player opposition then romped home - two-down - in just nineteen overs.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.  So a bit of a shocker of a day at the office for the sides.  Just as well a new week's starting.....

The latest league tables are also online.

Saturday's two senior matches see Poloc host Stirling County and Shawholm travel to "Langloan".  Both games start at 12 noon.  Then Sunday League action sees the Academy host East Kilbride.  Finally, Monday's junior match sees the Under 12s travel to "Albert Park" to play the East Kilbride|Weirs combined side.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Representative selection [posted 31/07/19]

Congratulations to Craig Young on his selection in the Western Warriors squad for their upcoming inter-regional T20 Blitz matches against the Caledonian Highlanders and Eastern Knights at "Titwood" tomorrow and Grange on Friday, respectively.

One off, one loss [posted 29/07/19]

The Under 16s missed out tonight with their home match against Greenock succumbing to the wet weather that's blighted the west of Scotland over the last few days.  The Under 12s however were luckier; their "pairs cricket" match at "Titwood" did go ahead and so the club's youngest hardball side enjoyed a getting a game in.  And up against a much older and physically stronger opposition the youngsters put in a much-improved performance compared to when the two sides had met earlier in the season in the league.  Batting first, Clydesdale scored 167 for 3, and then, in reply, the 'Loc youngsters scored 99 for 8.  The eventual margin of the home sides' win was 88 runs under the quirky "pairs scoring" system used in the Under 12 age-group, with the margin of improvement in the young Poloc players' performance being reflected by the fact they lost 22 (!) fewer wickets in this evening's match than back in May, when the margin of defeat was a whopping 152 runs.  It's good to see the players' practice and the coaching input having such a measurable effect, remembering again just how young a group of players this is.Read Coach Sheridan's match report online.  Scorecard.

Panthers off [posted 28/07/19]

Today's Sunday League match between the Panthers and Prestwick was off.

Weekend action [posted 25/07/19]

Saturday's two senior matches see Poloc host Ferguslie and Shawholm travel to "Meikleriggs".  Both games start at 12 noon.  Then Sunday League action sees the Panthers going to "Henry Thow Oval" to play Prestwick.  Finally, Monday's two junior matches see the Under 12s host Clydesdale and the Under 16s go to "Glenpark".  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Panthers see off Ferguslie [posted 23/07/19]

"3-fors" for Osman, Saad and Hamaad saw the Panthers comfortably defend 143 in tonight's Evening League match against Ferguslie at "Shawholm".  Their big first innings score was virtually entirely down to Ofie's unbeaten 65, who added to his Sunday 95 not out at "Old Anniesland".  Scorecard and updated statistics online.

Academy lose in high-scoring match in Alloway [posted 23/07/19]

"New Cambusdoon" was the venue for tonight's Evening League match between the Academy and Ayr.  After the toss was lost by Rob' it was the hosts who would have first use of the pitch.  Openers Jefferson and Borland put on 100 for the first wicket, the Academy's bowlers doing well to eventually restrict Ayr to 158 for 5 after the home side had got off to a fast start.  Then, in the run-chase, Mo and Rambo similarly raced out of the traps.  However when the former was stumped off the bowling of Boyd, and Rosco went two balls later, the momentum the Academy had established evaporated.  Rambo would go on to score 70 (53), but his effort would prove insufficient as the side finished on 135 for 9 to see Ayr take the win points.  We have the scorecard and updated statistics online.

Academy ease to win at BCP [posted 21/07/19]

The Academy side ran out straight-forward, seven-wicket winners overs Uddingston this afternoon at "Bothwell Castle Policies" in a rain-affected Sunday League match.  PPutting their hosts in after winning the toss, the Academy then bowled out Uddingston for just 867, Moiz with a "3-for".  Then in reply, the side used less than seven overs to chase down the 88 runs needed for the win, Hassaan caressing a cover drive to secure the win points.  The second innings had seen a rain-break after eleven overs, but the side knocked off the remaining required runs after the resumption in play, just before the heavier tea-time rain set in.  We have the scorecard and updated statistics online.

Panthers lose again in the Sunday League [posted 21/07/19]

The Panthers were in action today in a re-arranged Sunday League match against the GHK|Torrance side at "Old Anniesland".  In a match reduced to 30 overs-a-side the Panthers racked up 205 for 3 batting first with Ofie (95*) and Rambo (65*) scoring heavily.  However this big total would prove insufficient as the Panthers' hosts bunted their way to 206 for 5, securing the win off the second-last ball.  Wide and no ball count in such a close encounter?  The Panthers gifted 19 runs in wides and no balls, and so, yet again, this saw defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.  All the bowlers took some tap save Buggsy, whose 6-0-23-1 stood out amongst the carnage.  Scorecard and updated statistics online.

The 'Loc fell to a third consecutive league defeat today, this time going down by seven wickets in a reduced 35 overs-a-side match at "Bothwell Castle Policies" against Uddingston.  Having posted 149 for 7 batting first, with Seebz top-scoring with 40 (34), the side then took two quick wickets in their hosts' reply only to then find themselves unable to make a further breakthrough until much later on, Uddy securing the win in the 30th over.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Back on the south-side there was better news however with Shawholm making it two wins in a row, defending 100 to defeat Bothwell who were skittled out for just 76.  The fact that 100 was mustered at all, low though it is as a total, owed much to Froggy's 25* and Bothwell's generosity in the extras stakes (25 runs in total).  Then with MK taking a "4-for", and Buggsy and Haris taking a brace each, the side ended up winning by 24 runs, securing their win in the 39th over. The scorecard, updated statistics, and the latest league tables are online.

Weekend action [posted 18/07/19]

Saturday's two senior matches see Uddingston host Poloc at "Bothwell Castle Policies", and Shawholm welcome Bothwell to Pollok Park.  Both games start at 12 noon.  Then Sunday League action takes centre-stage with the Panthers going to "Old Anniesland" to play the GHK|Torrance side and the Academy travelling to "Bothwell Castle Policies" for a second away game there in the space of 24 hours.  Finally, Monday's Under 12 match at "New Cambusdoon" brings the weekend's action an end.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Tonight saw another really busy night of junior practice, with both the Under 12 group and Under 14s and 16s group working hard under the guidance of coaches.  Keith Sheridan, assisted by Ofie and Imran, ran the Under 12 group as usual, with - encouragingly - new players coming along for the first time.  Also welcoming new players tonight was the older age-group, Lesiba and Keith Young working with this group on a beautifully sunny and warm evening on the southside.

Representative selections [posted 16/07/19]

Congratulations to both Abdul Malik and Zakir Siddiqui on their selections for the Western Warriors Under 16s squad for its inter-regional championship match against Caledonian Highlanders today.  Their regional selections follow in Hassaan Mehmood's selection for the Warriors Under 14 side that competed in, and won, the Under 14 inter-regional T20 tournament on Sunday, and Amaan Ramzan's selection in the Western Warriors Development XI squad for its inter-regional championship match in Edinburgh against Eastern Knights on the same day.  Also announced today was the Scotland Under 19 squad to take part in the U19 CWCQ event in The Netherlands later in the summer; congratulations to Kess Sajjad for his inclusion in this squad, and to former club member Uzzair Shah (now playing his cricket down south for Highfield CC).  It's really pleasing to see so many of the club's young players being selected for representative squads, reflecting well both on their commitments to their games and, it's hoped, the development environment at the club.

Under 16s' winning run continues [posted 15/07/19]

WDJCU_logo

The Under 16s recorded a straight-forward win over Ayr this evening, bowling out a visiting side hampered by player unavailability for just 11.   Nabeel's 3 for 1 was the standout bowling performance as Ayr's innings lasted just 7.4 overs.  Then, for the loss of just the one wicket, the Under 16s chased down the 12 runs needed in under three overs.

With the game having been completed as quickly as it was the sides then played a second, friendly, match giving the players of both sides more match practice on a beautifully warm summer's evening.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Panthers lose in the Sunday League [posted 14/07/19]

The Panthers hosted Irvine in the Sunday League this afternoon, going down to a five-wicket defeat as their visitors chased down a relatively low target of 115 for the win.  Froggy continued his good recent form with the bat, top-scoring with 34 as the Panthers mustered just 114 batting first.  Only Zakir got in to double figures of the other batters, save extras which, at 42, were of Poloc proportions! Irvine then needed less than 25 overs to accumulate the runs needed for their victory, Gulfam's figures of 8-1-25-2 being the pick of the Panthers' figures, with Buggsy taking 3 for 30 in his eight-over spell.  Scorecard.

Derby bragging rights shared [posted 13/07/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc were soundly thumped by Clydesdale this afternoon, going down by seven wickets after failing to defend their meagre total of 134 all out.  On a wearing pitch that looked tricky to score on in the first innings, the visitors from Crossmyloof made it look like a batting paradise as they coasted home with just under twenty overs to spare, aided-and-abetted by the usual extras generosity, this week 21 wides being gifted in 30.1 overs!

The one bright spot in the 'Loc's innings was Rambo's composed 44, with Pasty (18) and Saif (19) the only others whose scores made for other than dire reading.  With the ball, despite nicking off 'Dale skipper Barbour early, the 'Loc bowling unit just didn't - again - have the necessary control, to either avoid conceding the hatful of wides or, more importantly, pitching deliveries in the right spot as their visitors' bowlers had done.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Over-by in Crossmyloof meanwhile there was better news, as Shawholm chased down 214 to beat a strong Titwood side featuring a number of experienced Clydesdale 1st XI players.  Batting first the home side posted 213 for 7, with Haris grabbing a "3-for".   Also impressing with the ball were MK (7-2-21-1), Nabeel (6-0-20-1) and Hunnain (10-2-31-0) who kept a lid on the Titwood run-rate.  The successful run-chase then - again - owed much to Froggy (44*) who steered the side home, after MK's 44 at the top of the order, and cameos from Hunnain (26) and Irfan Sajjad (21).  The scorecard, updated statistics, and the latest league tables are online.

Weekend action [posted 12/07/19]

It's more derby league action tomorrow as the club's two Saturday sides take on their Dark Side counterparts.  Poloc host Clydesdale at home, whilst Shawholm travel to Crossmyloof.  Sunday's action features the Panthers and their home Sunday League match against Irvine, before Monday's Under 16 home match against Ayr brings the weekend's action to a close.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

The 'Loc come up short in the Rowan Cup final [posted 11/07/19]

In a low-scoring match this evening, the 'Loc finished - agonisingly - 4 runs short of their target to lose to Clydesdale in the Rowan Cup final.  Chasing just 109 to win after restricting the visitors from Crossmyloof to 108 for 8, the 'Loc would yet again rue gifting runs in wides, no balls and byes to their opponents.  Tonight the differential between the sides in these three extras categories was 9 runs, or three times Clydesdale's eventual winning margin.  Even just the differential in wides - 4 runs - would've seen the side home.  Luckily having gone on about this for much of the season, this "We told you so" doesn't seem like being smart after the event!

Individual performances worthy of mention in despatches would be LJ's 3 for 22 [Ed: though it would've been 3 for 11 but for wides!] and Ziggy's 4-1-12-1 bowling return.  Whilst with the bat, Ofie's 35 (57) held things together for a while in the run-chase, and Kess's 24* (17) provided late overs fireworks.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Under 16s remain unbeaten [posted 08/07/19]

WDJCU_logo

The Under 16s maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a convincing win this evening at "Meikleriggs" over a Ferguslie|Kelburne combined side that included a number of regional representative side players.  Bowling first, the Under 16s put their senior counterparts to shame in bowling out their hosts for just 49, conceding just 3 runs in wides, and no byes, en route.  Seven batters were bowled, and Nabeel executed a direct-hit run out to boot.

Moiz ended up with a "3-for", but mention too of Jamesy's brace that saw him dismiss McLean and Wylie in consecutive deliveries.  Then in their run-chase what would be a nine-wicket win was secured in under eight overs with Abdul and Zakir all-but seeing the side home, Zakir (20) being the only batter dismissed.  The scorecard, match report and updated statistics are online.

Runs galore but only bonus points to show for them [posted 06/07/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc scored 290 today down at the "Henry Thow Oval",.....and lost!  Chasing a whopping 320 to beat hosts Prestwick the team got within 29 runs of the Ayrshire side but in the end it was too big a target they'd given themselves.  And the main reason it was as big as it was was again due to the lack of control of the bowling unit.  This week it would be 36 runs gifted in wides, not forgetting whatever haul of runs was gathered from the resultant extra deliveries.

For the 'Loc - on the batting front - Mo just missed out on a hundred, being dismissed on 97, and there were cameos from CJ (38), Saif (31), Pasty (27), LJ (23*) and Ofie (23).  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Back in Glasgow a young Shawholm side also scored healthily, albeit again - like the Poloc side - it was chasing a big target.  St. Ninian's had racked up 249 for 6 in their innings, Rodger with 145.  Wides here would be high as well, 24 being the "crime count" for the Shawholm bowlers.  Haris, with 3 for 29, was arguably the pick of the home bowlers, with the Enforcer taking a brace and bowling as economically as usual with the new ball with new-ball partner Gulfam who returned figures of 5-0-12-0.  In the Shawholm reply, an unbeaten 80 from Froggy was the standout knock, his effort seeing the side to an eventual 183 all out in the final over.  Both Hunnain (26) and Haris (21) got in to the twenties, aside which there was little to report from the rest of the line-up.  The scorecard, updated statistics, and the latest league tables are online.

So two losses on the day, notwithstanding 480 runs were scored by the two Saturday sides.  Ouch!  And, ouch too when remembering the wides count: 60 on the day, in 600 legitimate deliveries bowled.....  #dothemath

Weekend action [posted 05/07/19]

Saturday's league matches see the club up against Prestwick on matchday eleven.  Poloc travel south-west to "Henry Thow Oval", whilst Shawholm host St. Ninian's.  The former game has a 12 noon start, the latter - the match at "Shawholm" - starts an hour later at 1pm.  Team selections are online once confirmed.

Kwik Cricket [posted 04/07/19]

The club's Under 10s were in Kwik Cricket action last night, making the short trip to "Titwood" to play three matches against their Clydesdale counterparts.  On a glorious night, great fun was had by all, and we've got a short report on proceedings from Keith sheridan on the Juniors page.

Half century for Abtaha [posted 04/07/19]

The club is immensely proud of Abataha Maqsood who was awarded a commemorative cap in recognition of her 50th official cap for Scotland Women.

Reaching 50 caps is a great personal achievement for Abtaha [pictured left], made all the more remarkable considering she turned 20 only last month.  Very many congratulations to Abtaha!

Panthers suffer last-ball heartache [posted 02/07/19]

The Panthers lost on the last ball this to Hillhead in the Evening League.  Having set their visitors 121 to win, the side again shot themselves in the foot by gifting Hillhead 14 runs in wides.  Assisted by this generosity the Hughenden side snuck home off the last ball after apparently trying their best to throw away the win themselves with some Keystone Cop running in the late overs that saw four batters run out.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Sunday League defeat for the Panthers [posted 30/06/19]

The club's losing weekend continued with the Panthers going down to defeat to West of Scotland today in the Sunday League.  Despite the loss there were highlights however, with the Enforcer notching up his first senior 50 for the club, adding to his cheeky wee "3-for" in the home side's innings.  Batting first the Panthers posted a credible 186 for 9, Rob's 52 being the stand-out knock.  He was however given support from Zakir (28), Habib (28) and Buggsy (24) all of whom chipped in with cameos.  In the West reply the Panthers just couldn't restrict the run-rate well enough, and would eventually lose in the 33rd over, their host's skipper, Mills, top-scoring with 56.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Double defeat Saturday [posted 29/06/19]

WDCU_logo

Both Saturday sides lost today, both against their West of Scotland counterparts, and both in rain-affected matches.  Both, too, were chasing totals posted by their opponents having both been in the field first.  At "Shawholm" the 'Loc were chasing a DLS target of 138 in 25 overs after West had been restricted to 147 for 7 in 39.2 overs before theundery rain showers swept through G43.  Despite a breezy 31 from Saif, and 49 from Pasty, the side would, however finish 16 runs short of their target to see West win by 15 runs.

The scorecard, match report, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

At "Hamilton Crescent" meantime, Shawholm were chasing a much more formidable 236 to win, after having conceded 69 [Ed: yes, sixty-nine!] runs in wides in the first innings.  Despite Josh's 57, and 45 from Zakir, the side would finish well short in their attempt, never really recovering from the top order collapse that saw Hunnain, Hasan, Saad, CJ and Froggy muster 8 between them!  The scorecard, updated statistics and league tables are online.

Weekend action [posted 28/06/19]

It's a Poloc:West of Scotland weekend of cricket in the main this weekend with the clubs meeting three times in two days.  Partick host Shawholm on Saturday, at the same time as Poloc host West of Scotland, before the two club's Sunday League sides clash at "Hamilton Crescent" on Sunday.  Saturday's matches start at 12 noon, Sunday's encounter has a 1pm start.

What a difference day makes! [posted 27/06/19]

WDCU_logo

After last night's debacle in deepest, darkness Lanarkshire, the 'Loc decided to play a bit more like cricketers this evening, sneaking past Ferguslie in the Rowan Cup semi-final.  Again after losing the toss the side were in the field first.  However unlike yesterday evening the umpires only had to extend both their arms horizontally at shoulder height four times.  Conceding just 4 runs in wides assisted in restricting Feegie to 119.

LJ's 4-0-16-2 and Yasar's 4-0-16-1 were the best of the bowling figures as an altogether better bowling performance was witnessed.  Chasing 120 to win, and to secure a final berth, 23 for 2 resulted after Saif (14) and Rambo (1) departed.  Ofie (39*) and Pasty (16) then put on 47 for the third wicket, their partnership being broken giving Ferguslie a sniff of defending their total.  However Ofie couldn't be up-rooted, and with LJ chipping in with 12 (12), and Feegie doing a decent Poloc impersonation by gifting 20 runs in wides and no balls, the side got home in the final over, Zakir clipping Henry through square-leg for a boundary 4.  The scorecard, match report and updated statistics are online.  Clydesdale will be the 'Loc's final opponents, defeating Prestwick in the other semi-final.

McCulloch Cup exit [posted 26/06/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc exited the McCulloch Cup at the quarter-final stage this evening, losing convincingly against Uddingston at "Bothwell Castle Policies".  After losing the toss, the side were in the field first and a combination of gifting 19 runs in wides [Ed: yes, that again!] and dropping four regular catches in the field saw Uddy rack up 177 for 5.  All the 'Loc bowlers took tap and so let's leave the first innings there.

The run-chase - such that it was - was pitiful, and never really got going.  Pasty and Said top-scoring with 16 a-piece tells its own story, and so, dear reader, enough said.  For the brave of heart the scorecard, match report and updated statistics can be found online.

Under 16s progress in the Scottish Cup [posted 25/06/19]

The Under 16s saw off the challenge of Ayr this evening in their Scottish Cup second round tie at "Shawholm".  Batting first the visitors would be bowled out for 63 leaving the 'Loc with an eminently-chaseable target.  Losing six wickets en route to a four-wicket win, the Under 16s reached their target inside twelve overs.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Three in a row for the 'Loc, but defeat for Shawholm [posted 22/06/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc secured a third consecutive league win today, defeating Greenock in almost bizarre circumstances.  In the field first, the 'Loc gifted 36 [Ed: yes, 36!!!] runs in wides to their visitors, en route to the "Glenpark" side posting 178 all out.  LJ and Crazy Horse with "3-fors" were maybe the pick of the bowlers in an instantly forgettable innings of cricket that was lite on both entertainment and quality, visiting Professional Bandekar's 69 apart.

The run-chase was then in the bonkers category, with the 'Loc indebted to Kess (77) and Ofie (46) for somehow rescuing them from 41 for 5 to secure an eventual two-wicket win.  The scorecard, match report, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Poloc_Greenock_pic_220619

At "Whitehaugh" in Paisley meantime a very young Shawholm side was going down heavily to a very much more experienced home side, 208 for 9 being a bundle of runs too many for Shawholm who were bundled out for just 95.  There were bright spots in the loss however, with Samee and Zakir both taking "3-fors", and Zakir also chipping in with 31 batting at three.  The scorecard, updated statistics and league tables are online.

Weekend matches [posted 21/06/19]

Saturday's two matches see the Shawholm side on the road to Paisley to take on Whitehaugh, whilst Poloc host Greenock.  Both games start at noon.  Then on Sunday the Academy entertain Stenhousemuir in the Sunday League before Monday's Under 16 League game sees the 'Loc take on the East Renfrewshire|Renfrew combined side.

Panthers exit the Greenwood Cup [posted 20/06/19]

The Panthers went out of the Greenwood Cup this evening, losing comfortably to Whitehaugh at "Shawholm".  Batting first the side stumbled their way to just 91 for 9, only Imy (25*) MK (24) and Hunnain (19) getting into double figures.  Then with the ball, in their attempt to defend their total, the #PolocProblem of gifting extras was front-and-central again.  12 wides in under sixteen overs was tonight's crime count, the Panthers went down to a six-wicket defeat with more than four overs unused by the visitors from Paisley.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

McCulloch Cup wash-out [posted 19/06/19]

Tonight's McCulloch Cup group stage match - the final one of the group stages - ended in a no result as the West of Scotland reply to the 'Loc's 139 for 4 was washed away, with the north-side club 18 for 0 in the third over.  Seebz (46), Rambo (34*) and Mo (31) had given the side something to defend, but the bowlers wouldn't ultimately be tested as persistent rain early in the West reply saw players and officials driven from the field of play, never to return.  Match abandoned, and a-point a-piece.

Derby win in the McCulloch Cup [posted 18/06/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc secured a quarter-final tie in this season's McCulloch Cup, defeating to neighbours Clydesdale at "Titwood" this evening to see them open up an unsurmountable gap between the two sides in the group table.  Tonight's 39-run win was built on a solid first innings from the 'Loc batters that saw them post 157 for 5, Mo top-scoring with a half century.  The side then safely defended their score, notwithstanding conceding a whopping 31 runs in extras!

Tonight's match was a rescheduled one, the original matchday falling on Eid.  The group stages finish tomorrow, West of Scotland visiting the south-side.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Bragging rights for the Panthers [posted 18/06/19]

You can forget the latest Rebel Alliance:Dark Side clash in the McCulloch Cup at "Titwood" tonight.  No, the match of the day today was the Evening League contest between the Panthers and poloc Academy!  Now this one really matters!!  Batting first the Panthers posted 129 for 4, thanks in the main to the top order.  The Professor ended up unbeaten on 34*, a knock that was complemented by MK's 27 and Aamir Kayani's 22.  It was great to see Aamir back at "Shawholm", opening the batting!  For the Academy, Haroon took a brace of wickets, returning figures of 3-0-17-2, Samee Mehmood's figures of 3-0-12-0 also being worthy of mention.  So, 130 to win for the Academy.  Their reply was centered around Hasan Malik's 34, but aside Amaan (18), no other Academy batter reached double figures.  And wickets would fall at regular intervals once the third wicket fell.  73 for 2 would become 95 for 7.  And, though they'd bat their overs, the Academy eventually ended up 20 runs short of their target to give the Panthers a 19-run win.  Scorecards are online here (Panthers) and here (Academy), as are updated statistics.

Monday wash out [posted 17/06/19]

Win and a loss on matchday eight [posted 15/06/19]

The Shaholm Premier Division Reserve match against Nunholm was done-and-dusted in no time at all today, disappointingly the cause being a batting collapse by Shawholm.  Batting first they were bundled out for just 58, only Zakir getting into double figures.  The collapse started early - 22 for 3 - and was never halted.  In fact such was the paucity of run-scoring by the Shawholm batters, extras - at 14 - comfortably ended up top scorer.  Nunholm then made lite work of the run-chase - hardly challenging as it was.  Less than nineteen overs were needed for the visitors from Dumfries to chase down the 59 they needed, the winning runs - a boundary 4 - coming from the third ball of the nineteenth over.  The seven-wicket win had seen MK take 2 for 19 in his six overs.  The damage had been done in the first innings however, and defending 58 was always unlikely.  [Ed: the club curse of gifting extras was also in evidence again, notwithstanding less than nineteen overs were bowled - 19 runs in wides and no balls being conceded!]

There was however better news in South Lanarkshire where the 'Loc recorded a convincing nine-wicket win, defeating hosts East Kilbride.  Restricting the "Torrance House" side to 145 batting first - Yasar with a "4-for", and Habib clearing up the tail (3 for 15) - the batters then executed an exemplary run-chase, with Mo (63) and Rambo (57*) putting on 123 for the first wicket to all-but secure their side's win.  Pasty (7*) and Rambo then secured the remaining required runs, and the nine-wicket win was banked, with fifteen overs to spare.  A good win, coming on the back of last week's success against Drumpellier, and the midweek T20 cup wins.  But, still room for improvement.  EK might've been limited to 145, but this still included too many extras: 19 runs being gifted in wides and no balls.    The Poloc scorecard and the Shawholm scorecard, and updated statistics and league tables are online.  Match report.

Weekend fixtures [posted 14/06/19]

Tomorrow's two Saturday league fixtures see the 'Loc travel to "Torrance House" to take on East Kilbride, whilst Shawholm entertain Nunholm.  Both games start at 12 noon.  The Sunday League match between the Panthers and Victoria has been postponed, and will be reschewduled for later in the season, which means the next matches are Monday's two junior league games: the Under 12s going to "Titwood" to play Clydesdale, at the same time as the Under 16s host their Dark Side counterparts too.  Both Monday matches start at 6pm.

Under 16s progress in the Scottish Cup [posted 13/06/19]

The Under 16s ran out nine-wicket winners tonight in their Scottish Cup tie with Greenock, the side skittling out their visitors for just 40, before chasing down the 41 needed for the win in good time.  Froggy and Hasan were the not out batters, Jamesy and Elliot having earlier helped themselves to a brace of wickets as ten bowlers turned their arms over in the first innings.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Rowan Cup run continues [posted 13/06/19]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc progressed to the semi-final of this season's Rowan Cup this evening [Ed: where they'll meet Ferguslie], winning by 48 runs at "Albert Park" against Weirs.  After winning the toss, in what would be a reduced-overs match, Pasty opted to bat, and 113 was posted.  Kess (30), Saif (25) and Pasty (18) were the three batters to get to double figures as the just-over-a-run-a-ball target was set.

Then in the home side's run-chase, Habib grabbed a couple of early wickets to reduce Weirs to 16 for 2 in the fifth over, a slow start that the men from Newlands couldn't recover from.  Ofie helped himself to a "3-for" as Weirs were bowled out in the fifteenth over, Crazy Horse finishing things off with "two-in-two".  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.  Match report.

McCulloch Cup success [posted 12/06/19]

The 'Loc were at "Albert Park" this evening for the latest McCulloch Cup group stage match.  Hosts Weirs were under-strength for the match, but this shouldn't take away from a good all-round performance from the 'Loc who were missing a couple of regulars.  In Pasty's absence Saif took the reins, and led from the front with 77* opening the batting, seeing the side post a more-than-healthy 182 for 3.  Saif's 77 not out was the highlight - and included six maximums - however there were also useful contributions from Seebz (42), Rambo (23) and Ziggy (20).  Then in their successful defence of their score, The Enforcer dealt with the Weirs' top order, grabbing a brace of early wickets, whilst Habib (3-1-5-2) bowled nicely first-change, and Ofie chipped in with a neat run out - with just one stump to aim at - and his first wicket for the 'Loc, in a three-over spell.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.  Match report.

Western Cup win,.....at last! [posted 11/06/19]

Shawholm eventually recorded a win in this season's Western Cup group stages, beating Motherwell this evening by three wickets.  In the field first, Shawholm - despite dropping numerous catches - restricted their visitors to just 90 for 7, with Amaan Sheikh returning figures of 4-0-17-3 to see him top the wicket-taking chart.  Imy was also back in action for the first time this season, returning from injury, and he looked to have lost none of his rhythm or guile, taking 2 for 15 in a three-over spell.  91 then was Shawholm's target.  And the side got off to a decent-enough start, reaching 48 for 1 (CJ the batter out) in the ninth over.  However when Buggsy was second out a minor rot set in, and so before you could say "Just how long does an evening T20 actually take to complete?!?" the scoreboard suddenly read 54 for 6.  In a truly Poloc-esque collapse, they'd lost five wickets in the space of less than two overs and were now in a touch of trouble.  However MK bludgeoned a few boundaries after coming in at eight, and all would be well.  He'd finish 22 not out, just 1 run shy of Buggsy's top-scoring 23.  The winning post was passed in the eighteenth over to secure a three-wicket win.  The scorecard, and updated statistics, are online.

Defeat for the Under 12s [posted 10/06/19]

Under 16s win first up [posted 10/06/19]

WDJCU_logo

The Under 16s got their 2019 league campaign underway this evening with a road-trip to "New Anniesland" where they took on Glasgow Accies.   Batting first Zakir (38*) and Moiz (23*) were the main reasons why they eventually managed to post 93 for 4, a total that - with a slow outfield - was defendable.  And defendable it then turned out to be, the 'Loc's opening bowlers ripping through the Accies' top order to leave them 32 for 5.

Nabeel (3.4-1-7-4) would return the most eye-catching bowling figures, but he was run close in these stakes by Hassaan whose figures were 3-1-5-2.  A good win then, and one that sets the side up well for this Thursday's Scottish Cup match against Greenock.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Academy win [posted 09/06/19]

With the 'Loc going down to defeat in Angus there was more cheering news from the north side of Glasgow with the Academy side beating West of Scotland at "Hamilton Crescent" in the Sunday League.  Batting first the Academy posted 215 for 9, with Hasan Malik top-scoring with 44.  Then, the win was secured by bowling out their hosts cheaply for 74 inside 26 overs with Nabeel returning figures of 3 for 23, and Jamesy, Hasan and Zakir each taking two wickets.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Scottish Cup exit [posted 09/06/19]

The 'Loc returned from their sojourn to the north-east empty-handed after failing to chase 158 to beat Eastern Premiership side Arbroath United at "Lochalands".  After bowling out their hosts for just 157, the side then collapsed from 38 for 1 to 39 for 1 as the top order capitulated in disappointing fashion.  Seebz (51) did look at one stage as though he might manage the lower order and tail to the win, however when he was caught at mid-off in the 28th over it was all-but "Goodnight Vienna".  Kess's cameo 21* (26) saw him plunder some late runs, including two 4s and a maximum, but it was too little, too late, and the failure of seven batters to survive twenty deliveries was the telling factor as the side was bundled out for just 129.  So, defeat by 28 runs, when a win looked probable if not odds-on at half-time, Arbroath's innings of 157 seeing Lewis take 3 for 21, and Seebz and Ziggy grab a brace each, this after Kess had returned figures of 7-3-10-0 up-top.  The scorecard, video highlights and updated statistics are online.

Representative selections [posted 09/06/19]

Congratulations to Moiz Maqsood who has been selected for the Western Warriors Under 14 squad to take on the Caledonian Highlanders today, at Largo CC, in the inter-regional championship.  Making it a double-representative day for the Maqsood family is Moiz's big sister Abtaha, who - again - has been selected by Scotland Women for their two T20s today against Derbyshire CCC and Cheshire CCC.  Well done to both!

Double win Saturday! [posted 08/06/19]

It was a two-win day for the club today as both Saturday sides recorded "W"s.  At "Shawholm" Poloc saw off the challenge of Drumpellier in a match that was eventually reduced to 30 overs-a-side, and had a delayed start of 1pm.  In a rain-interrupted first innings the 'Loc saw 92 for 2 end up as 167 for 2 with Seebz (96*) and Pasty (51*) smashing 75 from the seven overs left for them after the innings had been interrupted after 23 overs.  The two would add 160 for their unbroken third-wicket partnership.  Then, defending a DLS-adjusted 206 in 30 overs, the side eventually recorded a 40-run win, however the reality was a much closer affair with Allison (48) and Drumps professional Maneeshan (66) putting on 65 for the visitors' second wicket.  But the side did, in the end, record the win, and in doing so matched the Shawholm result down in Alloway.  Batting first in this one too, Shawholm posted 178 all out, thanks in no small measure to The Enforcer stroking 38 batting at nine, with MK's 29 also worthy of a mention.  And this duo continued on in the second innings, taking six wickets between them as hosts Cambusdoon were eventually bowled out for 162, McCrossin's unbeaten 107 just not being enough for them.  The Poloc scorecard and the Shawholm scorecard, and updated statistics are online.

Weekend games [posted 07/06/19]

WDCU_logo

After a near blank week of inactivity - only the Under 12s have played in the last seven days, and they and the Under 16s have managed to train - there's another busy weekend of cricket scheduled for the next three days.  Saturday's home match sees Drumpellier visit to take on Poloc, whilst Shawholm travel to Alloway to take on Cambusdoon.  Then on Sunday Poloc are on the road to "Lochlands" in the Scottish Cup where they take on Arbroath United.

The last time these two met was a Scottish Cup semi-final three in 2015.  Also slated for Sunday is Poloc Academy's trip to "Hamilton Crescent" in the Sunday League, before Monday sees the Under 12s play East Renfrewshire and the Under 16s take on Glasgow Accies.  All of Sunday's and Monday's matches are away from home.   Team selections are online when players have confirmed.

Eid postponement [posted 04/06/19]

Western Cup wash-out [posted 04/06/19]

Tonight's Western Cup group stage match at "Bothwell Castle Policies" against Bothwell has been called off because of the rain.

Monday night action,....or not! [posted 03/06/19]

The Under 16s' trip to "Hamilton Crescent" this evening became the latest game beaten by the 'Scottishsummer.  However The Under 12s did get to get a game in, albeit the minimum twelve overs-a-side affair, down at "Scott Ellis Field" against Kilmarnock.  And it would be the hosts who would record the "W", winning by 22 runs in a low-scoring match played in pretty damp and dank conditions.  However a game's-a-game and it was good for the club's youngest hardball side to get out on to the ground and play again given the recent, and continuing, dreadful weather.  Scorecard.

More weather cancellations [posted 02/06/19]

Both today's Sunday League matches were washed out as the continuing wet weather claimed another two victims.

Congratulations to Craig Young on his inclusion in the Warriors squad for their Pro Series match at Merchiston tomorrow, against Eastern Knights.

A win and a loss [posted 01/06/19]

It was a day of mixed fortunes for the club today; Shawholm saw off the challenge of Langloan at home, defeating the visitors from Coatbridge by 38, whilst Stirling County got the better of the 'Loc at "New Williamfield" where the winning margin was 17 runs in a shortened, 34 overs-a-side, match.  The Poloc scorecard and video highlights, the Shawholm scorecard, and updated statistics are online.

If the grounds all dry up, and more rain stays away [!!], this weekend sees six matches in three days.  Saturday's two senior fixtures are Poloc travelling to play Stirling County and Shawholm hosting Langloan.

Then on Sunday both Sunday League sides are scheduled to be in action, the Panthers travelling to take on GHK|Torrance at "Old Anniesland" and the Academy welcoming Renfrew

The Under 16 League starts on Monday night as the three-day extravanganza of cricket comes to an end, the side travelling to "Hamilton Crescent", and on the same night the Under 12s go to Kilmarnock.  Team selections are online when players have confirmed.

McCulloch Cup wash-out [posted 29/05/19]

Tonight's third McCulloch Cup group stage match - at "Hamilton Crescent" - was called off due to the persistent heavy rain.

Another narrow Western Cup defeat [posted 28/05/19]

Shawholm again lost out by a narrow margin in the Western Cup this evening.  After restricting hosts Langloan to 114 in the first innings in Coatbridge this evening the side then finished - eight down - 2 runs shy of their opponent's score, and lost by the same margin.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

This evening's Under 12 league match against Ayr was the latest match to be washed away this season, heavy afternoon rain rendering the ground unplayable.

Western Warriors selection [posted 26/05/19]

Congratulations to Craig Young on his inclusion in the Warriors squad for their Pro Series match at "New Cambusdoon" tomorrow, against Caledonian Highlanders.

Weekend wash-out [posted 26/05/19]

Déjà vu,.....all over again!  Today saw a total wash-out with both senior Saturday league matches called off without a ball being bowled.  The Shawholm side at least had the consolation of an early decision, whilst Poloc's match was called off after an early tea at "Meikleriggs", just after 2pm.  Sunday's hosting of St. Andrew's University by the Panthers was then also consigned to the bin as overnight and morning rain rendered the ground still unplayable.  #Scottishsummer indeed.

Weekend's matches [posted 24/05/19]

This weekend sees four matches in three days.  The final game is Monday's Under 12 League match between Poloc and Ayr, and has a 6pm start.  Prior to this St. Andrew's University CC are visiting for a Pro40 Sunday friendly, the Elliot Rooney being involved with the university club.  And the weekend's action starts with saturday's home-and-away matches against Ferguslie, Poloc going to "Meikleriggs" and Shawholm hosting their Ferguslie counterparts here on the southside.  Team selections are online when players have confirmed.

The 'Loc win another Partick thriller [posted 23/05/19]

Dar_shot_versus_West_230519

The 'Loc returned from Partick this evening still in the Rowan Cup, and after somehow winning another thriller against hosts West of Scotland.  Chasing 137 to win after pegging West back after the home side had raced out of the traps led by Ian Young (43 from just 33 balls).  Young's opening partner Miller had also chipped in with 43 (38) and, at the halfway mark, on 77 for 1, West looked like they might post a really big score.  However tighter bowling at the death brought wickets and the 'Loc managed to concede just the one boundary in the final five overs.  136 for 4 was the total posted; 137 to win.

Mo and Saif then got the run-chase off to a good start, 10 coming from the first over.

Mo would go on and score a crucial near-run-a-ball 34 to keep momentum behind the chase, before Pasty (53 from 44 balls) saw the side across the finish line, crashing a 4 through extra cover off the penultimate ball of the match, securing a three-wicket win.  We've got updated statistics online, as well as the scorecard of the game (here), a match report, and video highlights

McCulloch Cup [posted 22/05/19]

The 'Loc were back in McCulloch Cup group stage action this evening, hosting south-side rivals Weirs.  And, pleasingly, after a matchday one loss seven days ago, the side recorded a 69-run win.  Batting first after winning the toss, the 'Loc's top order all chipped in as 159 for 4 was posted.  Seebz (50), Mo (33), Pasty (31*) and Saif (27) all got in, and despatched the majority of poor deliveries, seven maximums being struck along the way.  Weirs' reply - chasing 160 - then got off to the worst possible start as they slipped to 5 for 2.  Things got little better as 15 for 4 was the scorebox score in the fifth over.  Only Kamran (44), batting at four, offered any real resistance, and he'd eventually be last out in the sixteenth over, stumped by Ahmad off Seebz's bowling.  90 all out and a 69-run win.  A big winning margin, and an encouraging batting performance.  However, and as always, there were still areas to improve on: the fielding being one area where big gains can still be made.  We've got updated statistics online, as well as the scorecard of the game (here), a match report.

Heartache in the West End [posted 21/05/19]

Shawholm were back in Western Cup group stage action again this evening, making the trip to the West End to take on Glasgow Accies at "New Anniesland".  But in the cruelest of fashions, in what turned out to be a tied match, they lose out on the win points having lost more wickets than their hosts.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online, along with a match report from a "Special Correspondent".

Double-win Sunday [posted 19/05/19]

Both Sunday League sides recorded wins today, in a couple of closely-fought encounters.  At Shawholm the Panthers saw off the challenge of East Renfrewshire, defending 170 and winning by 22 runs.  Hunnain led from the front with the bat, stroking 31 batting at nine, this after there'd been earlier cameos from Hari (21), Amaan (19) and Osman (16).  Extras of 47 helped too!  Then in the visitors' reply, Gulfam stole the show returning figures of 6-1-16-4, with Ziggy (three) and Amaan (two) also claming multiple scalps.  Scorecard.  Meanwhile, over at Titwood, the Academy sneaked home by just one wicket, chasing 205 - in 35 overs - to beat Clydesdale.  77 from CJ, 51 from Rambo and an unbeaten 22* from skipper Josh were the highlights of a batting 'card that saw the skipper get his side over the line with Jamesy (1* from twelve balls) at the other end.  Earlier, as Clydesdale posted 204 for 9 there was a "5-for" for Zakir and a "3-for" for Saif.  So, two good wins in the Sunday League meant that it was "three-from-three" in this weekend's senior league matches.  #Toffee

Under 15s exit the ECB Cup [posted 19/05/19]

The Under 15s lost by 11 runs today in their ECB Cup tie against Glasgow Accies at "New Anniesland".  Batting first, the hosts posted 114 for 6, Jamesy the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 4-0-8-3.  However 22 in extras, and dropping top-scorer Chadha (51*) when he was on 12, proved crucial in the final analysis.  In their run-chase looking for 115 to win, the Under 15s got off to a good start, reaching 58 for 1 at the halfway point in their innings.  Hasan Malik was the batter out, going for 29 (24).  Hassaan Mehmood (35) and Elliot Moffat (18) then added 43 for the second wicket, however too many dot balls (67 in total in the innings) would eventually prove costly for the side.  And, even though there was some good scurrying at the death, the Under 15s couldn't reach their target, and finished 11 runs short.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Shawholm secure the win [posted 18/05/19]

A really good all-round performance from Shawholm at Bothwell Castle Policies saw Irfan Hanif's men secure the win in today's league match against Bothwell.  Batting first the side posted 252 for 8, with contributions right down the order.  Irfan Sajjad top-scored with 49, with the Professor stroking 41.  CJ had earlier made 36, and Crazy Horse (25*) and MK (25) chipped in with important lower order runs.  54 in extras also contributed to the eventual challenging total.  In the second innings, after a quick start by the Shawholm bowlers that had seen both home openers dismissed (30 for 2), Bothwell's Dunne (56) and Derek Allan (57) put on 110 for the third wicket to leave the game in the balance come the mid-point of the home side's reply.  But when this partnership was broken, wickets would then be taken fairly regularly to see Bothwell eventually bowled out for 181.  MK and the Enforcer took "3-fors", with Zakir turning his arm over for a few overs and grabbing two wickets.  The scorecard and updated statistics are online.

Poloc versus Uddingston cancelled [posted 18/05/19]

The home league match between Poloc and uddingston was called off just before 3pm today, the ground just too wet for safe play.

Weekend's matches [posted 16/05/19]

This weekend sees five matches in two days.  Saturday's two senior league matches are against Uddingston, Poloc  hosting the Lanarkshire club, and Shawholm travelling to "Bothwell Castle Policies".  Both fixtures have 12 noon starts.  Sunday League action then continues on Sunday, with the Academy going to "Titwood" for yet another south-side derby [Ed: the sixth in eight days!] and the Panthers hosting East Renfrewshire.  Also on Sunday - earlier in the day - the Under 15s go to "New Anniesland" to play Glasgow Accies in the ECB Cup, with that game starting at 10am.  Team selections are online when players have confirmed.

McCulloch Cup [posted 15/05/19]

The 'Loc somehow managed to throw away another golden opportunity to see off local rivals Clydesdale tonight, this time in the first of this season's McCulloch Cup group stage matches.  After restricting their visitors to just 114 for 9 in their twenty overs, the 'Loc then slumped to 7 for 3, as Junaid Rauf sliced through the top three in the batting order.  Pasty (28) then managed a minor rebuilding job, first with Ziggy, and then with Ahmad (23*), however wickets were never far away, and with the final five in the order mustering just 4 runs between them the end came quickly, the side inexplicably bowled out for 88 inside fourteen overs.  We've got updated statistics online, as well as the scorecard of the game (here), a match report, and video highlights.

Western Cup defeat [posted 14/05/19]

Shawholm's 2019 Western Cup campaign began with a home loss this evening as Titwood beat the side by seven wickets in the nineteenth over in what was a close game.  Posting 122 for six, thanks in the main to 40 from Ahmad and a generous dollop of extras from the visitors from Crossmyloof, Shawholm looked to be in the box seat when they reduced Titwood to 19 for 3 in the sixth over.  However Shoukat (66*) and Ameen (35*), Titwood's fourth-wicket partnership, would remain together to see their side home.  Shoukat's top-score came from just 43 deliveries and included five 6s and four 4s.  Frustratingly for Shawholm he was dropped on just 11, at "cow corner".  All three Titwood wickets were taken by The Enforcer who returned figures of 4-1-19-3.  In fact it wasn't really until over thirteen that an away win looked on, Titwood going from 53 for 3 after twelve overs to 111 for 3 five overs later, a whopping 58 comning from these five overs, including four maximums!  The scorecard and video highlights are online.

T20 cup campaigns begin [posted 14/05/19]

Tonight sees the Western Cup group stages start with Titwood visiting to take on Shawholm.  Then on Wednesday it's McCulloch Cup action as yet another Poloc:Clydesdale derby kicks-off that cup comp'.  Both games are at home, and both start at 6.15pm.

Under 12s lose out in the "wee derby" [posted 13/05/19]

The Under 12s lost in this evening's league match against near-neighbours Clydesdale, the loss of an avalanche of wickets seeing them gift - under the quirky Under 12 rules - no fewer than 88 runs to their opponents.  In the Clydesdale reply, the Under 12s did, themselves, manage to take seven wickets, however the net run position as a result of the differential in wickets taken and lost was such that the Crossmyloof youngsters ran out convincing winners by a whopping 152 runs.  Your scribe thinks forward defensives might be on the training skills list for Thursday evening.....

Warriors selection [posted 12/05/19]

Congratulations to Craig Young on his selection in the Western Warriors squad to play Caledonian Highlanders at New Cambusdoon on Monday, the Warriors latest Pro50 competition fixture.

Derby defeats [posted 11/05/19]

Clydesdale_wicket_110519 It was another double defeat today, and to make it hurt just a tad more it was #doublederbydefeat as both 'Loc sides succumbed to their Clydesdale counterparts.  Poloc again lost by three wickets, this time being unable to defend 200, whilst Shawholm were trounced by Titwood, going down by a whopping 161 runs.  Both games, as well as resulting in losses, also had in common a remarkable generosity by the 'Loc, with extras being liberally tossed around.  Shawholm conceded no fewer than 66, whilst over in Crossmyloof 23 wides were gifted by Poloc to their hosts, who secured the win in the 47th over.  Ouch.  We've got updated statistics online, as well as the scorecards of the two games (here and here), a match report, and video highlights.

League openers both end in defeat [posted 04/05/19]

Today's two senior Saturday league matches were both played after last week's complete washout.  Unfortunately both - against Prestwick and St. Ninian's - would end in defeats for the 'Loc.  Spookily both sides were invited to bat first and both [Ed: honestly!] were bowled out for just 68.  For Poloc Rambo, with 40, was the only batter to get past 5, and for Shawholm Froggy top-scored with 21.  However on a day of low scores right across the west, Prestwick then limped home by just three wickets in Glasgow whilst St. Ninian's fared a tad better, securing a six-wicket win at Henry Thow Oval.  We've got updated statistics online, as well as the scorecards of the two games (here and here), a match report, and video highlights.

Under 12s start with a "W"! [posted 28/04/19]

The Under 12s' league season started this evening, with Kilmarnock the visitors to Shawholm on a chilly night.  Batting first, the youngest 'Loc side lost five wickets en route to posting 65 for 5.  Then, in the Killie reply three wickets fell whilst 52 runs were notched up by the visitors.  The net result of this was - under the quirky scoring system that is the Under 12 league scoring system - that the 'Loc ran out 5-run winners.  77 played 72.  The match scorecard's online, as are averages.

Washed out [posted 27/04/19]

Both today's senior Saturday league matches were washed away by overnight, and then morning, rain that left - respectively - Hamilton Crescent and Shawholm saturated and unfit for any play.  A disappointing outcome, but thanks to the groundstaff, Captains and match officials for their involvements in the determinations.

Weekend's matches [posted 26/04/19]

This weekend sees four matches in three days, with Saturday kick-starting things and seeing the club's two Saturday senior sides taking on West of Scotland.  Shawholm host Partick here on the south-side, whilst Poloc travel over the river to "Hamilton Crescent".  Both matches start at 12 noon.  Then on Sunday a Poloc XI again travels to the north-side, this time to take on Torrance at "Old Anniesland".  This game, a 40 overs-a-side match, starts at 1pm.  The weekend's action then concludes with Monday's Under 12 league match against Kilmarnock, at "Shawholm", starting at 6pm.  Team selections are online when players have confirmed.  And, here's hoping the weather forecast is wrong!

Pre-season matches [posted 21/04/19]

Three matches were completed this weekend, all in beautiful sunshine: a Poloc XI playing a Forfarshire XI on Saturday and then a Stoneywood-Dyce XI today, with a Shawholm XI playing a Helensburgh XI today too.  All three matches resulted in defeats, the Poloc XI losses being fairly heavy, whilst the game at Ardencaple was closer.  There were some individual performances of note however, Zaighum Ahmad notching up a half century and Yasar Arfat (pictured left) taking a "3-for" in the game against Stoneywood-Dyce, whilst Hasan Rafiq (81), Abdul Malik (33) and Robert Cathcart (4 for 36) were the standouts for the Shawholm XI.  There are video highlights of the two Poloc XI matches online.

More pre-season matches played in the sunshine [posted 21/04/19]

After yesterday's season curtain-raiser in Broughty Ferry, a Poloc XI today hosted a touring Stoneywood-Dyce XI, the day after the north-east Eastern Premier Division club had played Drumpellier at Langloan.  A Shawholm XI was also in pre-season 40 overs-a-side action today too, their short hop north, and west, to Ardencaple seeing them take on a Helensburgh XI.  Both games would see 'Loc defeats, the match at Ardencaple being the tighter of the two.  The scorecards of both matches are online.  There are also updated, 2019, statistics.

Ground and clubhouse pre-season clear-up day [posted 27/03/19]

Saturday the 13th of April will be our annual Spring clean day at the club, and so we are looking for as many members and players to come to the ground that day - from 10am - to give the clubhouse a good clean-up before a new season, and get everything ready on the ground and its surrounds.  This will involve the usual moving of sightscreens, putting the coverings on the covers, clearing the all-weather net bay areas, clearing sticks and other obstructions from the ground, getting the number units back in to the scorebox, and sweeping out the sheds, garage and groundsman's storage areas, as well as "deep-cleaning" the clubhouse.  The "to do" list is a long one, however with everyone's help we will get everything done in short order.  There'll be a skip on-site as usual too in order to deal with stuff to be discarded.  And, who knows, if the sun shines there might be time for some cricket practice afterwards in some spick-and-span nets!
