Storm Frank makes it mark! [posted 30/12/15]

Storm Frank blew through the west of the country today, leaving its - very wet - mark on Shawholm.  The River Cart burst its banks whilst the stream at the Burrell End of the ground did likewise.  With similar consequences!

Under 19s have to settle for third [posted 30/12/15]

The Under 19s followed their Under 12 equivalents in Finals Day action this evening, in the indoor Super 8s tournamwnt.  Game one in the round-robin format saw defeat to the Dark Side, a loss that was followed up by a similar defeat to the East Kilbride|Uddingston combined team.  In both matches the side committed the cardinal sin of not using their allotted overs, batting first.  And whilst game one's 54 all out was bettered by posting 75 against the Lanarkshire combo, the end result was the same.  The scorecards from the Under 19s' matches are online.

Super 8s winners! [posted 30/12/15]

The Under 12s came out on top in today's indoor Super 8s Finals Day, defeating both Clydesdale and Ferguslie to secure only the club's second-ever win in the annual WDJCU indoor tournament.  After sneaking into Finals Day as the best runner-up, the side then played really good cricket in both matches to secure the title.  All the players contributed, either with bat or ball, or "in the field" - Hassaan's three catches in game one being a real stand-out.  Pictured left, the side - led by skipper Jamesy - can be rightly proud of their success, the win sealing a good year after the Under 11 league win.  Well done!  All the scorecards from the Under 12s' matches can be found online.

Under 12s join Under 19s on Super 8s Finals Day [posted 29/12/15]

The Under 12s finished as the best runner-up in indoor Super 8s group stage action today.  A loss and a win against Ferguslie and the East Renfrewshire|Renfrew combined team respectively was enough to just pip Uddingston on net run-rate, and progress to Wednesday's Finals Day as best-placed group stage runner-up.  They'll face Clydesdale and Ferguslie in the round-robin finals.

Under 15s miss out [posted 28/12/15]

Under 19s progress in the Super 8s [posted 27/12/15]

The Under 19s were the first age-group side in indoor Super 8s action today, in their group stage matches.  Opponents were Ayr, Clydesdale and an East Renfrewshire|Renfrew combined side.  After a good tussle with local rivals Clydesdale that they came through, there were then easier wins against - first - the combined side and - then - Ayr.  Three-wins-from-three saw the Under 19s top Group A, and progress to Wednesday's Finals Day. They'll face Clydesdale and the East Kilbride|Uddingston combined team in the round-robin finals.

Glasgow, Sport and the Great War [posted 11/11/15]

In an email circulated to clubs in Glasgow, Glasgow Life writes, "Armistice Day, held on 11 November every year, commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11am on 11 November 1918 - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.  Although hostilities continued in some areas, the armistice essentially brought an end to World War I.  In commemoration of those that gave their lives Glasgow Life has produced a book entitled "Glasgow, Sport and the Great War, Glasgow's Sporting Heritage 1914-18" which we would like to share with you on Armistice day.  You can find the book on the Glasgow Sport website."

We were pleased, as a club, to contribute just a very small part to the book, and have uploaded a .pdf copy of it to the website - you can read it here, with cricket during World War I being discussed on page 11.

Cliff Duncan [posted 10/10/15]

The club was saddened to hear of the passing of former member Cliff Duncan.  Here, Gordon Kennedy remembers Cliff.  "Cliff Duncan or 'The Demon' as he was universally known at Poloc, joined in the early '80s.  Originally from Kintore, he moved to Glasgow with work and initially joined Thornliebank CC.  He heard about Poloc when my wife was talking to his wife, when they were both with the Commercial Union.  He moved to Poloc and became a very popular member of the club.  He played during one of the most successful periods for the club, an all-rounder he mainly played for the 2nd XI playing in two Championship winning teams, in 1981 and 1983.  He also played, on occasion, for the 1sy XI, mainly for his bowling and featured in the side that won the John Haig Regional Final in 1982, subsequently playing at Southport in the next round of the competition.  Cliff also went on a number of memorable club tours to places like Newcastle and Blackpool, and anyone who was on these tours will have fond memories of him.  He was a member of the golf section and was also a Shawholm Shanker.  Cliff moved back to the family home in Keith a number of years ago, and our thoughts, at this sad time, are with his wife Karin and daughter Claire."

Dads versus Lads and Lasses [posted 20/09/15]

Dads_and_lads_and_lasses_teams_2015

The Lads and Lasses now a 2-1 lead in the annual Dads versus Lads and Lasses matches after sneaking a 5-run win in this afternoon's third clash.  Batting first in the 30 overs-a-side match, the Lads and Lasses (pictured left with their elder brethern) posted 148 for 8, with the top order contributing the bulk of the runs.  There were contributions from Pasty (26), Rosco (24) and Owais (23), with Disk chipping in with a cameo 18 late on that included a couple of big blows.  For the Dads, Imran and Maqsood - with a brace of wickets each - were the main wicket-takers.

In the second innings Brian's unbeaten wasn't quite enough as he ran out of partners and the Dads finished on 142.  Imran with 22, including a beautiful "pick-up 6" off Ihty, was the only other batter getting past 20.

Aside the bare bones of the result, the match threw up its usual intra-family rivalries with the protocols of first-ball free-hits and parents and children having to bowl to each being respected.  The results of this saw DJ dismiss CJ, Maqsood claim Abtaha's wicket and Youngy get rid of Pasty in the first innings, before Rosco stumped Dave, Uzzair ran out Anjii, Ihty cleaned up Imran and Abtaha had Maqsood stumped in the second.  However the intra-family competition wasn't restricted to wicket-taking with Pasty tonking Youngy for a maximum, Imran despatching Ihty over the ropes as already mention, and Brian bunting Joe for a straight 6!  All made for interesting supper-time discussions we suspect.

But in the end it was a 5-run win for the Lads and Lasses, and - as usual - good fun.  Thanks to DJ for organising, to Ronnie and Malcolm for officiating, and to Eilidh, Frances and Andrea for catering.

For those interested in the finer details, updated statistics and this year's match scorecard are online.

Under 11 League champions [posted 18/09/15]

Though there was frustration at last weekend's cancellation of the Under 11 Finals Day, the good news is that the WDJCU has decided to have joint league winners, the club sharing the title with Glasgow Accies CC.  Both clubs won their respective league sections, neither losing a match.  So congratulations to the Under 11s, and once we've managed to get hold of the trophy for a bit then a photo' opportunity will be arranged with all the players who've played for the Under 11s this season.

Evening League winners [posted 15/09/15]

The WDCU has confirmed, today, that the Poloc Academy side has won their Evening League division.  The side were unbeaten in the five matches that they completed in a season that was, as everyone's aware, blighted by particularly poor weather.  Well done to the Academy side nonetheless, and this league title adds to the other on-field successes achieved by the club's teams this season.

Frank Smith Trophy win! [posted 13/09/15]

The Under 19s beat local rivals Clydesdale in the final of the Frank Smith Trophy today, at Titwood, winning with two balls to spare in a thrilling finish.  Set 131 to win, the side made a careful start and were 42 for 2 at the halfway mark.  But, and crucially, wickets in hand in a T20 are priceless, and so it turned out as 42 were added in the third five-over part of the run-chase for the loss of just one more wicket, before - again for the loss of just one wicket - 47 were added in the last 4.4 overs to see the the win secured.  Stiffy top-scored in the second innings with an unbeaten 54 (49 balls), Owais contributing 37 from 40 balls.  And in the Clydesdale innings, Beast's 4-2-16-0 was a skipper's spell.

There is a match report online, along with match photo's, updated statistics and the scorecard.

Weather-permitting (!) the weekend sees two of the club's junior sides in finals day action.  Both days' action is at "Titwood", with Sunday seeing the held over final of the 2014 Frank Smith Trophy, Clydesdale the opposition, whilst Saturday is Under 11 Finals Day and the 11s take on Greenock in the first semi-final.

Under 15s win on the road [posted 04/09/15]

WDJCU_ logo

It might be towards the end of the first week in September, but the midweek evening cricket keeps coming.  Tonight saw the Under 15s at Ardencaple taking on the Greenock|Helensburgh combined side in the league.  And, in a sixteen overs-a-side match it was the 15s who recorded the win, winning by 40 runs.  CJ (45) and Aliyan (42*) were the main contributors as 108 for 3 was posted batting first, before tight bowling and decent fielding restricted the combined side to 68 for 4.

Abtaha was the pick of the bowlers, returning 4-1-10-2 bowling first change.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

The Under 18s saw off the challenge of a young GHK|Hillhead combined side tonight at Shawholm.  Posting 199 without loss in just fifteen overs, the side then comfortably defended their total with nine bowlers rolling their arms over.  Owais's 101 retired was the keystone of the big first innings total - taking advantage of not one, but two drops - with CJ chipping in with an unbeaten 56.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Panthers win the return T20 [posted 01/09/15]

The Panthers were in midweek T20 action again this evening, playing West of Scotland in the return leg of their somewhat gradiosely titled "bi-series"!  Winning the toss, the side were in the field first and quickly got in amongst the wickets.  The total had reached just 6 when Ihty made the breakthrough, cleaning up Greene.  Another 6 were then added by Choudri and Ashworth before the latter became Ihty's second scalp, Beast holding on to the catch at short extra cover.  And so it continued: wickets falling at regular intervals as eight bowlers were used.  No fewer than four others grabbed a wicket, with the seventh coming courtesy of a run out, a smart pick up and direct hit at the striker's end, from mid-on, by Ali.  Top stuff.  It was fifteen-overs-a-side and when the last ball had been bowled the Panthers' hosts had made 62 for 7.  63 to win.  Abid and CJ opened, but were soon parted, the former being adjudged LBW despite his front pad being nearer the bowler's end than the striker's end!  Ouchay!  This brought Ali in, but he departed ball one to get Mckechnie on a hat-trick.  And Shankar would face the hat-trick ball, calmy defending it back down the track.  8 for 2 at this stage.  33 were added for the third Panthers wicket between Shankar and CJ, only a run out seeing them separated, and CJ back "in the hutch".  Shankar however was still in, and going well.  He'd end up not out at the end having bunted 33 from just 21 deliveries.  At the other end Abdullah (10) was a partner for Shankar for a bit, before Beast (8*) came in and hit a 2 followed by a straight maximum to see the side over the line in just the eighth over.  A win by six wickets, and good fun in the gathering gloom.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Not again! [posted 31/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

Six weeks ago the Under 18s made the trip to Prestwick, batted first, lost a clatter of early wickets, then were rescued by a localised downpour.  Roll forward to this evening and.....the Under 18s go to Prestwick to play the rescheduled match, bat first, lose a clatter of early wickets and are then rescued by an even heavier localised thunderstorm!  Déjà vu,.....all over again!  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Semi-final defeat for the Under 18s [posted 30/08/15]

Cricket_Scotland_logo_2013

The Under 18s lost in their semi-final of the Scottish Cup today, going down by 34 runs to near neighbours Clydesdale, who were also, by coincidence, hosting the Finals Day.  The Dark Side posted 133 for 6 in their twenty overs, with Beast taking 3 for 30.

However the 18s likely thought they'd let their hosts off the hook having had them 43 for 3 in the tenth over.  The run-chase then got off to the worst possible start as Owais tried pulling the third ball he faced and was caught for a duck.  And when Beast was run out for just 2, the pressure was on the other batters.  Unfortunately the pressure told, and despite 34 (37 balls) from CJ, the side ran out of overs finishing 99 for 7 to lose by those 34 runs.  There's a short match report, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, online.

Last day defeat [posted 29/08/15]

The 'Loc signed off their 2015 league campaign by going down to Stenhousemuir by five wickets in a typical end-of-season affair.  Mustering only 98 on a [more than] bowler-friendly wicket after another difficult week for wicket-preparation for the ground staff, the side managed to take five Stennie wickets as the visitors chased down their target in the 34th over.

Only Pasty (33) made any meaningful contribution with the bat, extras equalling the skipper's contribution.  Then in the second innings there were wickets for Pasty (two), Ihty (one) and Crazy Horse (one).  No doubt the side were again hampered by unavailability - Imran (holiday), Izzy (work) and Bredders (injury) in particular - and notwithstanding the end-of-season "feel" to this "dead rubber", it was still another poor batting display where an inability to occupy the crease and somehow accumulate runs was brought in to sharp focus.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Back-to-back losses to finish the season [posted 29/08/15]

Unfortunately the Shawholm XI again suffered as a result of the widespread end-of-season unavailability that has reared its head over the last fortnight, with a more than decent side and a half unavailable for selection for either Saturday side last weekend and this.  And so it was a very young side that travelled to the The Tryst for the final Reserve League match today.

Fielding first the young side did well to bowl out their hosts for 114, but then - unfortunately - completely capitulated with the bat, being dismissed for just 46 themselves.  None of the batters got past 7 (!) as extras - with 24 - comfortably top-scored.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

Team selections [posted 28/08/15]

Unfortunately tonight's Under 15 match with the Greenock|Helensburgh combination side has already been cancelled because of the weather, and so with no Under 11 match scheduled either, the weekend action starts on Saturday: Stenhousemuir are the opposition for both Saturday XIs.

Then on Sunday the Panthers are in Sunday League action, the Under 18s compete in the Scottish Cup Finals Day, and Poloc Women take on Ayr.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

The Under 18s reach Scottish Cup Finals Day [posted 26/08/15]

Cricket_Scotland_logo_2013

In what can only be described as a Jekyll and Hyde performance that would make both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde blush, the Under 18s somehow contrived to score just 55 for 7 batting first against SMRH in Edinburgh this evening, in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, before then defending this to win by 2 runs!  Astonishing really.

There's a short match report, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, online.

Panthers win the first back-to-back T20 [posted 25/08/15]

The Panthers hosted West of Scotland this evening in the first of two T20 friendlies - the return match at Hamilton Crescent is next Wednesday.  The game was keenly contested and, with West needing a 6 from the last ball to win, went down to the wire.  Fortunately - for the Panthers at least - the last ball wasn't despatched in to the trees and the Panthers recorded the win.  However though ball 240 wasn't bunted for 6 there had been plenty maximums earlier on, with CJ smacking four of them in his 35, and Aliyan, Amaan and Irfan striking one a-piece.  Buntalicious! In their second innings defence of 114, Beast took a "3-for", and there were braces of wickets each for Aliyan, Shaan and Stiffy.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Comfortable win for the Under 13s [posted 25/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 13s played Kelburne this evening in a rescheduled league match at Whitehaugh.  Losing the toss, Sobo and his side were bowling first and when their hosts were 7 for 4 it looked like the home skipper had maybe made the wrong choice.  Sobo had three wickets and Dilina had already taken one of what would be two fantastic catches.  However Kelburne recovered and thanks to Wylie's 24 not out managed to post 49.

When the Under 13s were then 0 for 2 in reply maybe things could've got interesting, however Abdul (19*) and Callum (1*) saw the side home, with the aid of a bundle of extras.  There's a short match report, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, online.

Comfortable win [posted 22/08/15]

The 'Loc completed a league double over northside club Glasgow Accies today, winning by 48 runs in a low-scoring affair over at New Anniesland.  Batting first on an "interesting" wicket the side eventually posted 132 for 9 in their 50 overs, Chris's 40 at the top of the order being something akin to a miracle given the testing track and very slow outfield.  That the next highest individual score on either side in the match was 27 (the only other score in the 20s even) tells its own story.  Tea-time chat suggested 132 was likely way beyond par, and probably 40 more than would be needed.....and this was the chat from the Accies' guys!

And the home view proved correct as Accies slumped to 84 all out, never really recovering from 2 for 2.  It took 32.4 overs to bowl their hosts out, but once done there was a "5-for" for Bredders and four wickets for Imran.  A win by 48 runs it was then.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Battling performance, but came up short [posted 22/08/15]

WDCU_logo

With more players unavailable than you could fit into the right-hand side of this two-column box (!), it was a very young and inexperienced Shawholm side that Abhi' led in to the penultimate league match of the season today at home.  Anniesland were the visitors, and, after posting 207 for 8 in their 50 overs batting first, they bowled out the Shawholm XI for 129 to secure a comfortable win.  And one that might even bring a smile to the face of Mr Grumpy, the visiting skipper!  If Carlsberg did angry Captains....

In the first inninfgs there "3-fors" for both Uzzair and Shaan, the other two wickets that fell going to Abhi', and then in the ultimately unsuccessful run-chase Uzzair top-scored with a patient 26 opening the batting, and fellow Under 15 Abdullah, on Saturday league debut, scored a nicely-compiled 22 in the middle order.  Mention too of Roberto's economical spell.  His figures of 9-1-23-0 are impressive in themselves, but what might they've been had he not bowled twelve wides!     There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, and match photo's.

Double win Friday! [posted 21/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

Both the Under 11s and Under 15s won their league matches this evenuing, the 11s at Marress in a rescheduled match, and the 15s at home against the Greenock|Helensburgh combined side.  The Under 11s' margin of victory was a comfortable 53 runs, whereas the Under 15s were involved in an altogether much tighter affair, sneaking home by just two wickets, after a batting collapse nearly saw them fail to chase just 76 to win.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

Panthers secure the win over Renfrew [posted 18/08/15]

The Panthers entertained Renfrew this evening in the eponymous league, and secured a five-wicket win in a competitive match that went to the last over.  Chasing just 70 to win, albeit in a reduced eighteen-overs-a-side affair, the Panthers raced to 39 for 1 after seven overs.  However overs ten through fifteen saw just 6 runs scored, whilst four wickets fell.  However Pasty (17*) and Irfan (4*) saw the side home with four balls to spare.  In the first innings Renfrew's batters had pretty much all struggled, with only two getting into double figures.  Pasty twirled his way to 3 for 7, and there were braces of wickets for both Shaan and Anjii.  A short report, updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Under 18s beat Uddingston, but Under 13s slip to defeat [posted 17/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 18s saw off Uddingston at Bothwell Castle Policies tonight in a re-arranged league match.  The side chase the target of just 76 inside fifteen overs, CJ (37*) and Uzzair (23*) both batting nicely after the side had slipped to 0 for 2 early on with both Owais and Stouty out without scoring.  In the first innings, the home side had been restricted to 75 for 5, Roberto returning really impressive figures of 4-2-4-0, and Beast taking 2 for 10, including the wicket of South African "Overseas Amateur" de Beer.

At Shawholm meanwhile, Chris' was in charge of the Under 13s and his first "solo" management job saw him involved in a last over thriller, with lots of talking points thrown in.  The opposition was Glasgow Accies, who'd batted first and posted 106 for 6.  The 13s' reply was moving along quite nicely pretty much throughout, and as the last over was to be bowled they were 104 for 7 needing just 3 to win and with three wickets in hand.  However in a dramatic final over poor Chris' had to watch from square leg as two 'Loc batters were adjudged LBW and only 1 run was scored leaving the visitors winners by a run!    There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

Runners-up [posted 16/08/15]

MURGITROYD_T20_sponsor_logo_small

Today saw the club host the Murgitroyd T20 Finals Day, and with the ground bathed in warm summer sunshine throughout, the 'Loc were eventually beaten by a strong Forfarshire side in the final, after coming through the first semi- against Dumfries.

Batting first in both matches, the side posted 128 and defended it against the Borders club, but were never really "at the races" in the defeat to Forfarshire, their first innings' score of 104 being below par.  Forfarshire were deserved winners on the day having chased 148 to beat Watsonians in the second semi-, doing so with around five overs to go, going at 10-an-over, a feat they repeated as they chased the 'Loc's 104 at the same rate.  Craig Wallace was particularly destructive in both matches, scoring consecutive half centuries.  For the 'Loc though there was no disgrace, the semi-final win seeing good knocks from Owais and Chris', and a "5-for" for Izzy, including a hat-trick!  There were also three really good outfield catches from Ihty (two) and Scotty.  And then in the final when Wallace was again going beserk, and Leask was hitting balls in to the Cart, Ihty's figures of 1 for 17 in just under three overs were impressive.  So - finally - defeat in a T20 this season.  It's been a good run, and it's to be hoped that the progress seen in this form can be further developed for the longer form of the game, and the nucleus of what's a young side under a young skipper can continue to develop together.  The players again performed well today, representing their club, and indeed the WDCU, creditably.  Well done.  And well done to Forfarshire, deserved winners on the day.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

The Murgitroyd T20 Finals Day is again being hosted by the club today, with the 'Loc making an appearance on the field too, after winning the Rowan Cup.

Comfortable win [posted 15/08/15]

Scott Ellis Playing Field was the venue for the 'Loc's first league match down in Kilmarnock for many years.  After winning the toss, the 'Loc were batting first and posted a challenging 254 for 8.  There were runs for both openers - Chris' (28) and Owais (33) - in a 67-run opening partnership, before Niel (59) and Pasty (45) put on 89 for the third wicket.  There were then cameos from Shankar (22), on league debut, and Flanners (20), the latter [Ed: almost unbelievably!] including a maximum!

255 would be a tough chase, and so it proved, with Killie losing early wickets and never really recovering, 46 for 3 becoming 100 all out.  There were braces of wickets, each, for Ihty, Crazy Horse, Imran and Pasty.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Back to winning ways [posted 15/08/15]

WDCU_logo

A rarity this season: a beautifully warm and sunny day!  And to add to the feel-good factor, the Shawholm XI saw off the challenge of Kirkstyle this afternoon to get back to winning ways after last week's hiccup against St. Ninian's.  Batting first the side recovered from 50 for 4 to post 171 for 7, thanks in the main to obdurate middle-order innings from Abhi' (30*) and Shaan (28*) in a 68-run partnership that toom the side from 103 for 7 to the end of their innings.

Between them they faced 157 balls, and it was a vital partnership that saw a defendable total posted.  A defend the score they did, wickets being shared around - including a couple of run outs - as Kirkstyle collapsed from 84 for 3 to 107 all out.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, and match photo's.

Win in the dark, loss to the Dark Side! [posted 14/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 11s completed a comprehensive 96-run win over the Irvine|Kilmarnock combined team at Scott Ellis Playing Field this evening, the match finishing in near darkness having been played under slate-grey threatening skies throughout.  The win sees the youngsters remain unbeaten on the year.  But, at the same time, the Under 15s were re-acquainting themselves with an all-too-familiar feeling this season: defeat to the Dark Side.  This time it was in the Scottish Cup quarter-final.

The margin of defeat was large, but didn't in any way exaggerate the gulf between the two sides' respective performances on the night.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

The 2014 Frank Smith Trophy was not completed as avid readers of this column might remember?!?  Honest, fact.  But rather than being confined to history as a "Did not complete", the competition is being played to its completion this season.  And given it was an Under 18 event last year, the players eligible this season are Under 19.  Hope you're still following this!  Tonight saw the semi-final: Ayr away.  And here's the good news - it was a win.  In fact quite a comfortable one in the end, the 19s chasing down 128 to win inside seventeen overs.

There's another ridiculously busy weekend of cricket scheduled!  Friday night junior action sees the Under 15s host Clydesdale in the Scottish Cup quarter-final, while the Under 11s are at Kilmarnock on league duty.  Saturday's two senior league matches are home-and-away clashes with Killie again, the Poloc side down at Scott Ellis Field and the Shawholm XI at home.

Sunday is Murgitroyd T20 Finals Day, with a couple of scheduled Sunday League matches on the 'card to boot, but subject to rescheduling given the reserve date being used for the T20 matches.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

Evening League win at Ayr [posted 11/08/15]

Ayr were the Academy XI's opponents this evening, down in Alloway.  And with a slightly later start time agreed because New Cambusdoon was hosting the Scotland versus Ireland Under 17 match, it was eighteen-overs-a-side.  Youngy was in charge and, after forgetting to say anything the first time the coin was tossed, then guessed "heads" second time and was right, so had a bat.  [Ed: or in his case, didn't!]  The Academy batters that made it to the middle then capitalised on a decent surface and good outfield to plunder 144 for 5 in their innings.  Chris' top-scored, at three, benefitting from being dropped twice, and ended up with 58, whilst Shankar chipped in with 22, with cameos from Aliyan (16) and Flanners (17*).  Ayr then never really got going in their run-chase, slipping to 13 for 4 at one stage, as disciplined bowling (only 2 in extras gifted in the innings) and tight, energetic, fielding saw no easy runs on offer.  As pressure was created and maintained the wickets came.  There were braces for Abhi', Aliyan and Pasty.  67 for 6 was the Ayr reply, and with it a 77-run for the Academy that sees them remain undefeated in the Evening League this year.  Updated Statistics and the scorecard are online.

The club is again proud that Abtaha Maqsood wins another Scottish Women's Under 17 "cap" today, playing against Cumbria.  And also representing Scotland at international age-group level today are Ihtisham Malik and Owais Shah, both of whom feature in the Scotland Under 17 side taking on Ireland at Ayr's "New Cambusdoon" ground.  Well done to them.

An Under 18 side missing the experience of Rosco, Beast, CJ, and Ihty and Owais [Ed: both pulled out at the last minute by Cricket Scotland because they're playing for Scotland Under 17s tomorrow.] lost convincingly this evening down at New Cambusdoon. Chasing 158 for the win, the side could muster just 88 for 6 in their run-chase, with young Sobo top-scoring with an unbeaten 27 (31 balls), and putting some of his elder brethern [Ed: including older brother!] to shame.

Academy continue unbeaten [posted 09/08/15]

Almost unbelievably, the Academy side played their first Sunday League match of season 2015 today!  The Tryst was the venue, Stenhousemuir the opposition.  In the field first, the Academy side restricted their hosts to 162 for 9 in their innings with Roberto taking 4 for 32 in his eight overs.  There were a brace of wickets each for Disk and Pasty too, and Ahmed-Raza returned impressively economical figures of 8-1-26-0 opening the bowling with his slow left armers.  Then in the Academy's reply, Stouty (60) and Shankar (32) were the main contributors as - in an exciting finish - the side sneaked home by one wicket, the last pair of Bilal and Ahmed-Raza holding their nerves to see the side home.  [Ed: there are also rumours of Shankar breaking yet another bat!]  Updated Statistics and the scorecard are online.

Same failings [posted 08/08/15]

The 'Loc fell 25 runs short of their target, chasing 178 to beat Prestwick today at Shawholm.  After all-but bowling the side from Ayrshire out - they finished 177 for 9 - the side's propensity for middle order and tail-end collapses again materialised.  The first half had seen Ihty and Imran take "3-fors", but in truth the bowling wasn't as good as it has been of late, a missed chances in the field cost the side, in particular dropping Prasad early on, who went on to top-score with 56.

However even though 177 was likely more than Prestwick might've scored had the chances been taken, it's still a total that could've been chased down.  A steady opening partnership from Chris' and Owais, that saw 47 put on, was never added to as only Pasty (51) thereafter made a contribution.  Only Anjum (12) got in to double figures of batters four to eleven, with the oft-seen inability to bat any length of time horribly manifesting itself again.  153 all out it was then, 24 short of the target, and - as frustratingly - more than two overs unused.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

The Shawholm XI lost a flurry of late wickets and somehow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory today in their top-of-the-table clash with league leaders - and still leaders - St. Ninian's.   Chasing 168 to win, after their hosts had posted 167 (bowled out), the 'Holmboys looked in control with Shankar (40) and Stouty (49) making good contributions.  However despite Amaan (26) again showing his real promise batting at seven, and 11 from Abhi', the tail couldn't wag and the side were bundled out for 165.

Agonisingly short of their target, and a case of so-near-yet-so-far.  In the first innings there'd been "3-fors" for both Abhi' and Shaan.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

Under 11s back in action with a win [posted 07/08/15]

After more than a month's inactivity because of the horrendous weather we've been experiencing in the west of the country this summer, the Under 11s finally got back to competitive action tonight with a rescheduled match against Prestwick.  And the youngsters carried on where they'd left off, by winning.  In a competitive match, the 22-run margin of victory makes the win sound more comfortable than it was.

Sunday was to have to been the Murgitroyd T20 Finals Day but this week's persistent bad weather saw this moved to its reserve date of next Sunday.  As such the only match is the Academy XI's away Sunday League game at The Tryst against Stenhousemuir.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

13s in heavy derby defeat [posted 03/08/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 13s made the short trip to Toytown this evening, on league duty.  The side was a very young and inexperienced one, with a number of the Under 11s playing at this older age-group, and up against a strong side into the bargain.  The absences of Dilina and Abdul, on holiday, and regulars Samee, Hassaan, Ubaid-Raza and Andrew certainly affected the strength in depth, but the game - notwithstanding an eventual heavy defeat - provided great experience for the players on parade.

Never got started [posted 01/08/15]

Despite willing from both sides, and the umpires, today's CSL Western First Division match at New Williamfield between the 'Loc and Stirling County never got started.  A toss had taken place at around 1.30pm and the 'Loc would bat first on a dry wicket.  However the outfield, and in particular parts of the square and the bowlers' run ups were waterlogged, and this had prevented starting on time.  Then, when the heavens opened at 2pm - the delayed start time - it was simply a case of shaking hands.  Game off.

Washed away... [posted 01/08/15]

The Shawholm XI were left frustrated today as heavy afternoon rain washed away their chance of a win in the home match against Williamfield.  When the rain came, and forced the abandonment, the 'Holmboys had reduced their visitors to 60 for 7, with skipper Abhi' having already grabbed a "3-for".  There had also been a brace of scalps for LJ, and a wicket a-piece for Shaan and Saqib.  But it was the rain that was the only real winner, as the abandonment was agreed by the skippers with water lying all over the square.

Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Representative news [posted 30/07/15]

This week's seen the clubs players again feature in representative team selections, and action.  Abtaha Maqsood's been in Ireland with the Scottish Women's Under 17 side, playing four games against their Irish counterparts.  Craig Young was selected in a WDCU select side to have taken on Nepal in a warm-up match before the Nepalese played Scotland in the two ODIs being played this week at New Cambusdoon.  However the weather - as it's done to so many matches this seaaon - intervened and the match, due to be played at Hamilton Crescent, was cancelled.  Aliyan Qureshi is another 'Loc player who's been in representative action this week, again featuring in the Scotland Under 15 side.  This weekend coming Aliyan travels to Rugby as part of a Scotland Under 15 squad to compete in this season's European Championships.  Good luck to him and the rest of the squad.  Finally, the club had four players involved with the Western Warriors Under 18s again this week, Lewis James, Ihtisham Malik, Owais Shah and Calum Stout all being selected for one or both of the Warriors' matches against the Eastern Knights and Caledonian Highlanders respectively.

The 'Loc lose at Lochlands [posted 26/07/15]

Cricket_Scotland_logo_2013

The 'Loc's run in this season's Scottish Cup has ended, defeat this afternoon in the semi-final to Arbroath United, up at Lochlands, seeing the side fall at the second-from-last hurdle.  Bowling first the 'Loc restricted their hosts, at a typically bustling and boisterous Lochlands, to 215, bowling them out in the 49th over.

Imran had a "5-for" to his name, with Chris' chipping in with a couple.  After a short delay for rain, the 'Loc's reply then started slowly, and saw them lose Chris' (2) and Owais (17) relatively early, before a partnership of 102 between Pasty (84) and Bredders (63) put the side in the driver's seat. Bredders' was then the third wicket to fall, Ramsay getting him caught at point, leaving Pasty to see if he could - with the middle order - complete what would've been a really good run-chase.  But wickets kept falling, none of batters five to eleven getting more than 5, and when Pasty hit the first ball of the penultimate over straight to cover to be eighth out, any remaining chance of a 'Loc win left with him.  Five balls later it was all over, 187 all out, a defeat by 28 runs.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, and there are match photo's in the Gallery.

Bizarre! [posted 25/07/15]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc somehow managed to avoid abother banana skin against their bogey team at Shawholm today.  Batting first after winning the toss, the 'Loc were bundled out for just 96 on a wicket that - remembering it had rained for virtually a week, and there'd hadn't been a game at the ground for six days - wasn't that bad.  96 all out, with Pasty's 23 being the best of a poor bundle.  However the 'Loc's batting looked international class compared to Greenock's, the visitors being skittled for 57!

Imran and Bredders were the destroyers-in-chief, taking three wickets a-piece, and returning combined figures of 15-11-10-6!  Astonishing really.  And so, from nowhere, the win was secured, along with the 12 points that come with it.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Back to winning ways... [posted 25/07/15]

The Shawholm XI got back to winning this afternoon with a convincing - and fairly straight-forward - win against Glenpark, down in Greenock.  In the field first after winning the toss, Abhi's men restricted their hosts to just 116, with LJ taking 4 for 25.  None of the home batters got past 20, with Godsman top-scoring with 19.  Then, in the run-chase, LJ was again the main man, with a "jug-avoiding" 44, whilst Rusty (28*) and Shankar (17*) got the sheriff's badges.

Mention of Rusty should also prompt mention in despatches of his three catches, wearing the gloves for the first time in some time.  "You never lose it!" as they say.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

The Under 15s made the relatively short journey to Torrance House this evening to take on East Kilbride in the league.  Pre-match East Kilbride highlighted their playing of an over-age player, and as such the official match result is a concession.  However both sides were keen to play after a shocking week of weather, and so a game took place.

Under 18s progress in the cup [posted 22/07/15]

The Under 18s finally managed to get their Scottish Cup tie with Ayr played this evening, but only by switching venues and going down to New Cambusdoon to beat the weather.  Thanks, therefore, to Ayr for hosting.  In a match reduced to sixteen overs-a-side the home side batted first and posted a competitive 105 for 5.  The 18s' bowling and fielding was absolutely adequate, with the big ground and fast outfield producing the better-than-a-run-a-ball total.  Mention, too, in passing when talking about the first innings, of Sobo's contribution.  Drafted in as a late replacement after call offs, Sobo took two great catches a "cow" to get rid of both Muhammad Azeem and Shujaa Khan, arguably Ayr's two main batters.  The successful run-chase centered on a half century from Owais, who batted through with a collection of partners to get the side over the finish line in the fifteenth over.  SMRH are the Under 18s' next opponents, the Edinburgh club hosting. There are updated statistics and the scorecard online.

Academy stay unbeaten in the Evening League [posted 21/07/15]

The Academy side was over on the north-side this evening, taking on Hillhead at Hughenden.  The match, played on the astro-turf wicket, was a low-scoring affair, and was reduced to eighteen overs-a-side, the evening being more akin to April or September, than mid-July!  Batting first, the academy poasted 94 all out, being dismissed in the last over, and their total owing much to 21 from CJ and 34 from Chris'.  Then in their reply, the home side were restricted to 84 for 6 in their eighteen overs, the Academy successfully tying down the Hillhead batters often enough, for long enough, to secure a 10-run win.  Seven bowlers were used, with Beast being the pick of the bunch, returning figures of 4-0-10-2.  He ably backed-up by Aliyan who, sharing the new ball with Roberto took 1 for 12 in his four overs.  There were also a couple of run outs, Ihty executing both.  So another win, accepted not as close as last week's tied-score win against Prestwick, but close enough for the result to be in the balance for long enough, and in particular early on in the Hillhead reply when Foster (30) was putting on a bunting demonstration.  Luckily his wicket was snaffled courtesy of a CJ grab of Beast's bowling.  Statistics and the scorecard are online.

Abandoned [posted 20/07/15]

The Under 18s made the trip to Prestwick this evening, hopeful of getting their league match played.  However, though it started, it didn't finish, driving rain sending players and umpires running to the pavilion for cover.  The 'Loc were 34 for 3 in the ninth over when the rain came, with Beast, CJ and Aliyan all having departed cheaply, and Ihty and Uzzair the batters in the middle.

Matches OFF [posted 18/07/15]

Both today's senior Saturday league matches - home and away against near-neighbours Weirs - are off, cancelled after torrential overnight rain left both grounds waterlogged.

Matches OFF [posted 17/07/15]

Both tonight's junior fixtures are off, the Under 11 match with Renfrew had been postponed earlier in the week after a request by Renfrew given the uncertainty over when Eid might fall, and the Under 15 match is the latest weather victim of season 2015.

Junior internationals [posted 16/07/15]

The club had three of its juniors away representing Scotland at junior international level today.  Owais Shah is still in Jersey with the Under 19 squad competing in the ICC U19 CWC qualifying tournament, whilst Ihtisham Malik was in action for the Under 17s against Cumbria and Aliyan Qureshi was playing for Scotland Under 15s - also in the north-east of England - against Northumberland.  Well done to all three.

Greenwood Trophy loss to Drumpellier [posted 16/07/15]

The Greenwood Trophy was tonight's cup competition, and the Panthers - after winning their first group stage match seven days ago - were in confident mood going in to the match, at home, against Drumpellier.  And judging by the strength of side the Langloan club sent along the M74 it seems they're as keen on winning this trophy as they were the Western Cup!    Batting first the Panthers batters struggled to 74 all out, with no-one really getting themselves in.  Three batters got in to double figures - Shankar, Uzzair and Amaan - but aside them the 'card was binary code'esque.  In fact extras, totaaling, 16 were second-highest scorer to Amaan with 16.  Not that the low score had seen a collapse, nope, the last wicket - when it came - didn't fall until the final over, Shaan being stranded with the sheriff's badge.  And 74 wasn't ever likely to defendable given the strength of side Drumps were fielding, and so it turned out as only one wicket - Flanners taking a neat grab standing up to Abhi' to get rid of Sabri - was taken.  McLaren finished 45 not, with Sajjad (11*) for company, and the winning post was reached with nine overs to spare.  So a comprehensive win, but still everything to play for in these group stages, Clydesdale the next opponents next Thursday.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Team selections [posted 16/07/15]

Team_selection_image

There was another bounty of matches scheduled for this weekend, starting with Under 11 and Under 15 league matches tomorrow.  However with Eid landing either tomorrow or Saturday, the club's agreed to postpone its Under 11 match with Renfrew.

This leaves the Under 15s' clash with the Greenock|Helensburgh combined side.   Then on Saturday it's Weirs home-and-away, with the 'Loc going to Newlands, and the Shawholm XI hosting Albert Park.  Sunday's fixture card was also crowded,.....and still is.  Only it's got a change.  With the Scottish Cup clash with Forfarshire taking priority, the home Sunday League match against East Kilbride has been postponed, leaving just the Panthers trip to Renfrew in that league.   Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

London buses! [posted 15/07/15]

west_league_cup_logo

The 'Loc won their second cup in a week tonight with another thrilling win that, like last Thursday's Rowan Cup, went down to the last ball.  This time however the side were chasing, looking for 118 after Ferguslie had posted 117 batting first.  The Paisley side had been restricted to an under-a-run-a-ball total thanks to tight bowling up-top, particularly from Crazy Horse whose four overs cost just 12.

Then in the run-chase the side was pretty always up-with the required run rate, Bredders and Pasty adding 43 in decent time for the second wicket, before being separated, and the skipper then going to anchor the innings with 54.  But Pasty couldn't quite see the side across the line, departing as a result of one of four (!) run outs.  His departure then - as they say - made things interesting.  Suddenly the run-chase didn't look quite so simple, with 6 runs still needed and two new batters in.  Another wicket then fell in the last over, Abid run out scurrying back for a second which left Rosco to come in to face two balls needing 1 to tie, and 2 to win.  And Rosco in at seven because he'd dislocated a finger in the first innings!  Ball 119 was a dot!  Yikes!  But the last ball was somehow half-carved, half-chipped in to the off-side and the required runs were scored.  Thrilling finish to a good game, played in great spirit against a talented side representing a great club.

And so there it is, you don't win a cup for a while,.....then two come along at once, and the second, the West League Cup, competed for annually since 1951, is one the club's never won before!

Academy remain unbeaten in the Evening League [posted 14/07/15]

Tonight's Academy win in the Evening League was a thriller, as their game against Prestwick went down to the wire.  In the field first, the Academy managed to restrict the visitors from Ayrshire to just 99 for 8 in their innings, this after they'd raced out to 34 for 0 in the first five overs.  But there was no panic, and the first wicket went down with the score on 36.  And from there-on-in, wickets fell at regular intervals.  Beast, skippering the side, had made the breakthrough and would go on to take a "3-for", taking the wickets of Carlyle, Egerton and Rafiq.  His economy rate of 6.25 was a tad on the high side, but taking the wickets he had it likely wasn't too costly for the side.  And with Amaan's four overs costing just 6 runs, and both Roberto and Gary returning economy rates of 5 or less, Lewis's strike-rate more than offset the fact his overs had "cost a few".  Bilal's - with a brace of wickets - was the next best bowler in terms of wickets.  [Ed: though his attempted catch at mid-off should surely have seen him involved in another dismissal! ]  99 for 8 it was then, a round ton to win.  The run-chase started well enough with CJ and Rosco putting on 19 for the first wicket, and though the run-rate wasn't electric, it was satisfactory as the Prestwick skipper used up the allocations of his more experienced bowlers.  Rosco, with 25, would be the third batter out, with the score on 49, and by then Aliyan was out in the middle.  And it'd be Aliyan who'd grab the game by the scruff of its neck and drag it toward's the Academy's winning circle.  Just 36 for 2 at the halfway point, became 61 five overs later, with another two wickets having fallen.  But Aliyan was still in and he managed to drive the side towards the finish line with a mixture of good bunting and scurrying between the wickets.  The last over started with 9 runs needed for the win.  The first two balls then saw Aliyan hit a 4 and run 2.  3 runs to win.  Ball three was a drag-down-hit-me-for-4 ball that Aliyan.....smacked straight to long off, who held on to a good catch.  3 from three needed now, and it was the Shah Boys together.  Uzzair scored 1 on ball four, and Sobo 1 on ball five.  Scores tied.  The last ball.....dot!  A tie.  But, wait, a quick read of the playing conditions confirms an Academy win!  #Toffee   Statistics and the scorecard are online.

Panthers just lose out [posted 14/07/15]

The Panthers' improvement in form continued this evening in the Evening League at Renfrew.  Batting second, the side just failed to chase the 129 needed to beat their hosts, finishing 8 shy of their target, seven down.  Renfrew's 128 for 6 had centred on Hussain's 48 at the top of the order, with Kalash's 20, batting at four, being a meaningful cameo.  For the Panthers the six wickets taken were shared around, with only Shaan and Crazy Horse going wicket-less.  129 to win it was.  5 for 1 wasn't the best start in their run-chase, however Mirza and Joe put on 27 for the second wicket, and by halfway it was 51 for 2.  Shankar (24) continued his good run of form with the bat in adding 40 with Joe for the third wicket, but when this fell with the score on 72 the Panthers still needed 57 runs, with just seven overs left.  Anjii, in at five, wasn't going to give up the fight however, and - hitting three 4s along the way - scored a quick-fire 22 from just fourteen balls to bring his side back into it.  But he couldn't hang around and holed out off the bowling of Hussain.  115 for 7.  And just the last over to bowl.  6 were scored off over twenty but this wasn't quite enough, and Renfrew got home by 8 runs.  So another Evening League defeat, but - again - improvement.  That first league win can't be too far away.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

WU 40 Cup exit [posted 12/07/15]

WDCU_logo

After last Thursday's dramatic cup win over East Kilbride, where the 'Loc defended a lowish score, the side experienced the other side of a last ball thriller, losing by one wicket to Irvine in the WU 40 Cup down at Marress.  Having posted just 139 - using just 32.2 of their allotted 40 overs - the 'Loc then just failed to negotiate passage in to the next round when Irvine's last man, McCallum - batting with a runner - chipped the required 2 runs into the off side to secure the win for his side.

The 'Loc beat St. Michael's.....and the rain! [posted 11/07/15]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc took the win points in today's league encounter with St. Michael's, winning by seven wickets in a game that lasted less than 40 overs all told.  With the expected rain starting just after 4pm, it was just as well that the side had managed to dismiss their visitors from Dumfries in double-quick time - all out 96 - to leave them just enough [Ed: dry!] overs to complete the run-chase.  Imran took a remarkable 7 for 28 in the first innings, with Hasseeb getting the other three.

Then in that run-chase Bredders ended up 49 not out, with Scotty for company (23*), as the winning post was reached inside nineteen overs, with just the first drops of rain staining the clubhouse windows.  A good result then, and pleasing to get a completed game in.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Shawholm lose in Dumfries... [posted 11/07/15]

WDCU_logo

A very young, and inexperienced, Shawholm XI competed well, but eventually slipped to defeat by five wickets, in Dumfries today, losing to Kingholm.  Batting first, the side - featuring five Under 15s - posted 178, with Matt Stout top-scoring with 50 and Shankar, on Shawholm XI debut, making 36.  However defending 178 proved beyond the side, as Kingholm's Butt made 98 to anchor a successful run-chase.  Skipper Abhi' did all he could to lead from the front with the ball, returning 4 for 37, but it'd ultimately be in vain.

Derby defeat [posted 10/07/15]

With the Under 11s' match at Titwood off, tonight's derby action centred on the Under 15 clash at Shawholm.  Unfortunately for the 'Loc they'll finish season 2015 with an 0-2 record against the Dark Side.  Batting first, the Empire's stormtroopers recovered from 8 for 2 to post 105 for 8, Australian holiday-maker Carlisle top-scoring with 47 not out, whilst Uzzair took a "3-for".

The 'Loc batters couldn't, however, get anywhere near the resultant 106 needed for the win, the side slumping to 77 for 9 in their innings.  And if extras gifted hadn't totalled an improbable 32, the margin of defeat would've been in the embarrassing category on paper.  None of the batters showed any particular application on a wicket dampened by earlier rain.  But not just that, at least from the side-lines there seemed to be no particular plan being followed by the batters in the middle.  This shortage of ideas ended up as a shortage of runs, and bragging rights returning to Crossmyloof.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

Win! [posted 10/07/15]

Toffee_flag

The 'Loc won the Rowan Cup tonight in a thrilling final, defeating East Kilbride on the last ball of a match reduced to sixteen overs a side.  The reduction in overs was caused by a rain delay mid-way through the 'Loc's innings, the break in many ways resulting in the momentum that had been built up in the two or three preceding overs being lost.  50 for 1 was the score after eleven overs.  On the resumption the 'Loc found they had five overs left, and with Chris (37) and Pasty (25) continuing their 57-run partnership and the rest of the batters chipping in, 81 for 8 was eventually posted.

The East Kilbride reply - needing an adjusted 88 to win under D/L - started steadily.  30 were added in the first six overs, though three wickets had been taken by the 'Loc bowlers.

24 were then added by Lyons and Iqbal, the two former Scotland internationals, their burgeoning partnership only being broken by a brilliant pick up and run out by Pasty that saw Lyons depart for 17, having hit two maximums.  Iqbal and "Overseas Amateur" Klaassen then added 18 before Izzy bowled Iqbal.  The worm - no cricketing pun intended - was beginning to turn.  Izzy then took a second wicket two balls later, cleaning up Klaassen too.  The equation for East Kilbride was now 15 needed from two overs, now six down.  Chris' was bowling the last over and when he trapped Saeed LBW it was 79 for 7.  And the final over - to be bowled by Izzy - would see 9 needed.  Ball two brought another wicket after a scrambled single accrued from the first ball.  And then the eighth wicket: Chris' and Pasty combining for a run out!  7 needed from three.  Then a wide!!  6 from three.  Single.  Single.  4 needed from the last ball.  Single.  'Loc win!  #Toffee  Cue celebrations!  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, and photo's in the Gallery.

Panthers win in the Greenwood Trophy [posted 09/07/15]

Tonight's Rowan Cup win wasn't the only cup action - or indeed cup win - that the club was involved in.  The Panthers were also in cup action, over at Albert Park in the group stages of this season's Greenwood Trophy, the competition they were runners-up in last year.  And after a couple of tough defeats, the side bounced back with a convincing win over our southside rivals.  Batting first, 126 for 6 was posted, with Shankar's unbeaten 93 completely dominating the innings.  On a difficult deck he played the stand-out knock of the game, adding 77 with Joe for the third wicket after Beast (8) and Stiffy (0) had gone cheaply.  Then in the second innings the bowlers did their jobs, bowling out weirs for just 65, Beast helping himself to a "3-for".  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Academy record back-to-back Evening League wins [posted 07/07/15]

The Academy side were back in T20 Evening League action this evening, East Kilbride's midweek XI being the visitors.  And Matt Stout's charges carried on from where they left off last week at Weirs with another win.  Batting first as they'd done seven days previously, the Academy racked up 165 for 3 in their twenty overs, with Stiffy and Owais both notching up half centuries at rates of better than a-run-a-ball.  Then in the East Kilbride reply, the visitors were restricted to just 54 for 5, with good tight bowling and decent fielding tying down the Torrance House side's batters.  Two run outs reflect the scoreboard pressure that got to some of the batters in the second innings, and such was the comfort that the skipper felt as the innings progressed, CJ rolled his arm over! 2-1-4-0 was a perfectly respectable return too!  Statistics and the scorecard are online.

Panthers lose again in the Evening League, but signs of improvement are there [posted 07/07/15]

Another Evening League match and another heavy defeat for the Panthers, as life in Division 1 proves tough.  Tonight's opponents were Uddingston, who chased 89 to record the win, using less than half their allotted overs to do so.  But, it's not all doom and gloom.  Batting first the Panthers again scored more runs than they'd done on their immediately previous outing, and this week used their entire 20-over allocation.  Progress.  Shankar was again the top-scorer, with 21, the form that saw him selected for last weekend's Shawholm side continuing.  Aside his 21 there were two other batters who got in to double figures, The Professor with 14, and Joe Scott on debut with 13.  In the second innings, Uddy's openers Macleod and Rai made light work of the chase, finishing 52 and 35 not out respectively and needing only eight overs to reach the winning post.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Washed away! [posted 06/07/15]

The Under 13s' match with Stenhousemuir started but didn't finish tonight, the visitors 19 for 2 after six overs when the rains came and drove the players and officials from the pitch.  The two wickets to fall had been shared between Sobo and Nabeel, Nabeel trapping Thakur LBW for 9, and Sobo cleaning up Bang for 1.  Hopefully the match will be rescheduled.

The 'Loc overcame Uddingston tonight in the semi-final of the West League Cup to secure a place in next week's final where they'll play Ferguslie.  The Paisley club snatch a last-ball win over Ayr in the other semi- to secure their place, whilst the 'Loc's win was a little more comfortable, being a seven-wicket success with ten balls to spare.  Chasing 128 for the win, Bredders' 70 not out, and an important 83-run second-wicket partnership with Pasty (25), were at the centre of the successful run-chase.

Academy win in belated season opener [posted 30/06/15]

The Academy side finally got their competitive season up-and-running, and secured an Evening League over at Albert Park first up.  Defending just 91 for 7, the Academy bowlers managed to bowl out their opponents for just 68, thanks in the main to a "4-for" for Ahmed-Raza, and a "3-for" for Beast.  In the first innings, only Beast had made it to 20, though no more, as he was bowled by Sarfraz.  15 extras [Ed: remembering the total was just 91] certainly helped too.  And if commending the bowlers on securing the win, it's also maybe worth suggesting that Weirs were actually 68 for 14, four catches being grassed by the Academy side, this part of their game being lacking as regards the required skills level.  Stuff to work on.  Statistics and the scorecard are online.

Panthers in more Evening League woes [posted 30/06/15]

The Poloc Panthers suffered more batting woes this evening as they slumped to 59 all out chasing opponents Weirs' first innings total of 132.  Aside Shankar's 23 at the top of the order there really wasn't much to be too pleased about in the run-chase, this after 132 for 9 had been posted by the visitors from Newlands, batting first.  Updated statistics and the scorecard are online.

Also impressing at Hamilton Crescent were Ihty, Aliyan and Beast, whose combined bowling figures were 9-7-9-3!  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

The 'Loc slipped to only their second defeat of the season, losing by five wickets to Stenhousemuir up in Larbert, in a match that was eminently winnable.  After posting 178 for 9 on what was a tricky wicket, the side failed to defend this, albeit taking Stennie all the way to the 47th over of their innings.  And as ever in such close games, it's the wee things that count.  18 gifted in wides being, for example, just one such "wee thing".

Still, with a side where more than half the players were 21 or under, let's hope today's a learning day.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Double over Ferguslie [posted 22/06/15]

The Under 13s and 18s were both in league action this evening, both up against Ferguslie.  The 13s were in Paisley, the 18s were hosting their counterparts at Shawholm.  In the game at Meikleriggs, the Under 13s won by 20 runs, defending a low score of 87, thanks in no small measure to a hat-trick from Nabeel, and three well-executed [Ed: two direct hits] run outs.  And whilst the Under 13s were winning "on the road", the Under 18s were winning at home.

Batting first the 18s posted 136 for 5, with Owais top-scoring with 41, and being well supported by Beast (38).  The 18s then successfully defended their score, skittling Feegie for just 83 to secure a convincing win.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

15s take third place [posted 21/06/15]

Under_15_ECB_Cup_logo

Emulating their Under 13 counterparts, the Under 15s - today - travelled to the Capital for the Finals Day of their ECB Cup.  Drawn against Grange in the semi-finals, the 15s let slip a decent position midway through their Edinburgh opponents' innings, letting 50 for 3 become 126 for 5.  Then, in their reply, the batters never really built any momentum, with too many dot balls killing any chance of the win.

They'd finish 87 for 4, slipping to a 39-run loss.  The third/fourth place play-off game against Huntly then mirrored the semi-final, only it was the 15s who batted first.  They posted 125 for 4 and then restricted their northern opponents to 73 for 5.  In the 'Loc innings there were runs for CJ (38) and Uzzair (20), with cameos from Sobo and Amaan.  In the Huntly innings, it was good to see all the 'Loc outfielders rolling their arms over, Nabeel and Abdul [Ed: does he have a bowling licence?!?] bowling three overs each.  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Stuttering win [posted 20/06/15]

What a difference a week makes.  Last week the 'Loc and Kilmarnock racked up almost 600 runs at Shawholm in their league match, today the 'Loc and Glasgow Accies barely mustered 200 between them.  The 'Loc could post just 144 batting first, Rosco (24), Pasty (21) and Bredders (39) each getting going but then getting out, whilst the rest just did the second part.  However Accies fared worse, being skittled for just 69 to see them slup to a 75-run defeat.  Bredders helped himself to a "4-for".

The Shawholm XI keep on winning in the league, and today's win over Anniesland was by over 200 runs.  The huge margin of victory was set up by posting 367 batting first, with Owais (101) and Stouty (84) in the runs.  Then in the home side's attempted run-chase the wickets were shared around all the bowlers used, Rusty and Matthew getting a brace each.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Tomorrow's Sunday League match between Poloc Academy and Clydesdale is off.  The club has apologised to Clydesdale because it is unable to field an Academy side on the same day its Under 15s are at the ECB Cup finals day in Edinburgh, and it has other junior players playing in, respectively, a representative match, the Scotland Under 17 trial game and - in Abtaha Maqsood's case - a women's inter-regional match.  Ramadhan has added an additional complexity to team selection and player availability, as did an injury to a previously selected player in today's Reserve League match at New Anniesland.  However, and notwithstanding that the club will field two teams tomorrow, it is still disappointing to fail to fulfil a fixture, particularly one that directly impacts our nearest neighbours.  Apologies again to Clydesdale, but thanks to them for their understanding of the "perfect storm" that led to the decision.

Under 15s beat Prestwick [posted 19/06/15]

The Under 15s managed to emulate the 'Loc this evening, defeating Prestwick at the Henry Thow Oval.  Last night's win was a cup semi-final, tonight's win saw league points gathered.  43 runs was the margin of victory, 135 for 6 being posted batting first thanks to Amaan's 51 not out which added to CJ's  and Aliyan's opening partnership of 53.

Wickets were then shared around in the second innings as all ten outfielders bowled, and Prestwick were restricted to 98 for 5.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.  We've also got match photo's in the Gallery.

There are seven scheduled fixtures over the next three days.  Tonight sees the Under 15s in league action at Prestwick, Saturday has home and away senior league matches scheduled against Glasgow Accies, and Sunday has no fewer than four matches slated to be played.

The Under 15s have two games on the finals day of the ECB Cup in Edinburgh, whilst the Academy and Panthers side play in the Sunday League.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

Into the final! [posted 18/06/15]

WDCU_logo

It came down to the last couple of balls, but the 'Loc got there in the end - a win at Prestwick, by just 6 runs defending 126 tonight, sees the side in to the Rowan Cup final for the first time since 2007.  With the Ayrshire side needing 11 runs from the last over bowled by Ihty either side could have win it, but Ihty held his nerve and Prestwick came up just 6 runs short.  The 126 for 3 posted centred on Chris's 46, with cameos from Owais (38*) and Scotty (20*).

There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Through the group stages unbeaten [posted 17/06/15]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc safely negotiated a trip over the river this evening, destination Hamilton Crescent, in the last of the round-robin group stage matches in this season's West League Cup.  Batting first, hosts West were skittled for just 71 inside their allotted twenty overs, and 72 was chased in under thirteen overs, Rosco top-scoring with an unbeaten 26.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

Located! [posted 17/06/15]

Thanks to Victoria's help we've located the missing part of the scorebook from last night's Evening League match at Bellahouston Park.  As a result there's now a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Panthers lose in league opener [posted 16/06/15]

The Poloc Panthers were in Evening League action this evening over at Bellahouston Park [Ed: the Academy side's Evening League match with Kelburne was postponed as Kelburne indicated they couldn't get two sides out on a midweek evening] but returned back to the policies having lost out to opponents Victoria.  The details are a little sketchy as only half the scorebook made it back with the team!   However what details we do have suggest the Panthers' hosts posted almost 200 batting first on the astro-turf wicket, a total the Panthers fell well short of.  There were however runs for Disk (44) and Rizwan (44) in the run-chase.  Hopefully we'll get the other half of the scorebook soon and can then produce the first scorecard and statistics for the Panthers as they get their season up-and-running.

Shawholm lose in Western Cup semi-final [posted 16/06/15]

WDCU_logo

Just as last season it was a case of so-near-yet-so-far in the Western Cup this evening as the Shawholm XI lost at the semi-final stage of the competition.  Defeat was at the hands of Kelburne's Whitehaugh XI, who chased down 115 to win with three overs to spare.  The home side's win over in Paisley owed much to South African "Overseas Amateur" Bradley William's all-round performance, bowling his four overs for just 15 runs, before bunting 39 from just 23 balls at the top of the order.

In the runs for the 'Holmboys were Rosco (35) and Huss (31*), whilst Jak O'Connell made 52 for Whitehaugh.  So defeat, but no disgrace given the strength of the side Whitehaugh put out which, in addition to Williams and O'Connell, featured Reivers seamer Ross MacLean, and the 'Holmboys can look back on another good cup run.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

Awesome and awful! [posted 15/06/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 18s came up short in almost ever department this evening, embarrassingly failing to chase only 111 to beat an eight-man Drumpellier side!    Gifting 17 runs out of 110 in the first innings was bad enough, but then scoring just 13 runs [Ed: yes, thirteen!] in the final five overs to come up 5 runs short in the run-chase was downright criminal.  #chumpsnotchamps  #notasgoodastheythinktheyare

Luckily however the Under 13s were also in action tonight, and maybe lacking the talent of the elders, they nevertheless again showed them how to win a game of cricket.  Batting first they posted 135, with Sobo top-scoring with 33 not out, before then restricting the visitors to Shawholm, Greenock, to 87 for 5.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

Under 13s finish third [posted 14/06/15]

Under_13_ECB_Cup_logo

The Under 13s took third place in the Finals Day of the ECB Cup at Goldenacre today, losing to the Dark Side in the semi-final, and then defeating Broomhall in the 3rd/4th place play off game.  Game one saw a poor batting display that left Clydesdale requiring only 57 for the win, and the Toytowners duly knocked these off inside eight overs.

The play off game was nearly the same too, only the other way round with Broomhall batting first and mustering just 47, a target the 13s passed with a handful of overs to spare.  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Poloc Women's inaugural match [posted 14/06/15]

The sun shone on Poloc Women as they played their first home game today, hosting Stirling County in the Women's Scottish Cup.  Batting first, the PW posted 36, up against a more experienced Stirling side.  Liv Barber top-scored, opening, with 17.  Then in the second innings, chasing 37 for the win, Stirling lost four wickets en route to their win.  Jo Ashcroft was the standout bowler, taking two-in-two as the visitors from New Williamfield wobbled just as they approached the winning post.  We've photo's of the game in the Gallery.  There are updated statistics and the scorecard online too.

Killie beaten [posted 13/06/15]

WDCU_logo

After posting just under 300 in their last league outing a fortnight ago against Stirling County, Shawholm was again awash with runs as the 'Loc racked up 311 batting first against Kilmarnock.  Then, in their reply, the Ayrshire side mustered 209 for 8 to eventually lose by 102 runs.  On a run-fest of a day, where the bowling and fielding from both sides was pretty ordinary, it was the batters who "made hay".

Chris' (114) and Bredders (103) both made tons, with Ahmed top-scoring for Killie with 63.  Imran returned the best bowling figures for the 'Loc with a "3-for", but as we say it was really a batter's day.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

A win in a rush [posted 13/06/15]

WDCU_logo

The Shawholm XI went to Kilmarnock, played, won, and were back in plenty time for leftovers at the between-intervals tea break at the Policies!  After having lost the toss and found themselves in the field, Abhi's charges proceeded to skittle Kirkstyle for just 48, the wickets being shared around the six bowlers used.  Then in a perfectly drama-free run-chase, the 'Holmboys romped home inside nine overs, Flanners top-scoring with an unbeaten 30.

There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Double-win Friday [posted 12/06/15]

The Under 11s and 15s both won this evening against Ayr.  The 11s were at Shawholm, the 15s "on the road".  Both margins of victory were quite big, with the Under 11s winning by 100 runs, the Under 15s by 51 runs.  There are short match reports online, along with updated statistics and scorecards.

Sunday then sees the Under 13s compete in the "Finals Day" of the ECB Cup, Poloc Women take on Stirling County at home in the Scottish Cup, and an Under 10 "Kwik Cricket" destival at Hamilton Crescent.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

13s follow suit [posted 11/06/15]

Under_13_ECB_Cup_logo

The Under 13s saw off the challenge from East Lothian Cricket Association this evening in the quarter-final of the ECB Cup to join their under 15 counterparts in a "Finals Day".  After giving up home advantage to get the game played, the 13s made the long trek to Prestonpans CC in the rush hour this evening and, after batting first, set their hosts 94 to win.  Dilina'd top-scored with 31 retired, with Ali chipping in with 20.

Then in the successful defence of their total Abdullah took a "4-for" to clean up the tail and secure the win, this after Sobo had skittled the top order to see East Lothian reduced to 8 for 3 on the astroturf wicket.  The win sees the 13s into Sunday's "Finals Day" at Inverleith where the semi-final draw sees them up against the Dark Side!  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Dark Side double [posted 10/06/15]

WDCU_logo

The 'Loc remain unbeaten in this season's West League Cup after complete the double over the Dark Side in the group stages, chasing 109 for the win this evening at Shawholm.   After winning the toss, Dark Side skipper Haq chose to bat first and posted 108 for with Haq himself carrying his bat for an unbeaten 49.  He was given good support by Sabri who scored a quick-fire 32.

The run-chase then, though ultimately successful, started poorly with the visitor's opening bowler Shakoor ripping through most of the 'Loc's top order to return 5 for 9 in his four overs.  However Pasty knuckled down and batted with the rest of the middle order to see his side to the win, finishing unbeaten on 42, with Abid for company having notched up another cameo.  This time 23 not out.  So a good win, against a good side and - to boot - on a gloriously warm night in front of a decent crowd.  [Ed: and a special word of thanks to the Clydesdale supporters for comning over and adding to the atmosphere - always welcome!  Country and Restricted Memberships are available!  ]  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

Shawholm reach Western Cup semi-finals [posted 09/06/15]

WDCU_logo

For the second season in a row, the Shawholm XI has reached the semi-final of the Western Cup.  Having fallen at that hurdle last season, when Irvine secured a final berth, the side will be keen to go one better this year.  Tonight's quarter-final was against Albert Park and turned out to be fairly straight-forward.  Winning the toss, the home side decided to bat first but could only muster 60, with Motassim and Abhi' doing most of the damage with three wickets-a-piece, before Mushy turned the screw with 4-1-5-0.

Then, in the second innings, 61 for 3 was reached inside eleven overs as the Shawholm XI progressed in the competition.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard

In a match reduced to 30 overs-a-side after yesterday's heavy rain, the 'Loc saw off the challenge of Stenhousemuir today, to move in to the quarter-finals of this year's Scottish Cup.  Batting first, 64 from Pasty and a cameo 27 from Abid - that included three consecutive 6s - were the centre-pieces of the 'Loc posting 141.

Then in reply, tight bowling and decent fielding saw Stennie dismissed for 98, Bredders grabbing another "5-for".  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

The 'Loc secured a semi-final berth in this season's Rowan Cup this evening with a ten-wicket win over Ayrshire side Kilmarnock.  Batting first Killie were restricted to 93 all out in their twenty overs, the final wicket falling on the last ball of their twenty overs.  The 'Loc then chased their target down inside sixteen overs and with the minimum of fuss.  Standout individual performances on the night came from Imran (4-2-7-4) and Anjii (65*).

The Kelburne versus Dark Side quarter-final was rained off, however also winning through and joining the 'Loc in the semi-final draw are East Kilbride and Prestwick.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Still unbeaten [posted 03/06/15]

WDCU_logo

Tonight's West League Cup match against Weirs, at Shawholm, saw the 'Loc secure the win that saw them remain unbeaten in the group stages: played three, won three.  Chasing 87 to beat their near-southside neighbours, the 'Loc stuttered briefly - losing four top-order batters in quick succession, before then steadying the ship and running out comfortable six-wicket winners - only really Owais (47*) looked comfortable of all the batters who made it to the middle.

The run-chase target of just 87 had been secured after a decent bowling performance, the eight Weirs' wickets to fall being shared around.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

After last weekend's horror show at Glenpark with the bat it was more-than-pleasing to see the 'Loc rack up 296 for 4 batting first in today's next league match, and this after being inserted by the opposition captain, Stirling County's Anderson.  Bredders was in the runs again, this time with 111, and there was a half-century from Pasty (54) and meaningful contributions from both Chri's (40) and Owais (30) at the top of the order.  Bredders then helped himself to a "5-for" as Stirling County were bowled out for 115.

The Shawholm XI continue on their winning way this afternoon with a hard-fought and important win on the road up in Stirling.  Batting first they posted 183 all out, a total that owed much to Rosco's current good form (71), and cameos from Beast and Aliyan, both of whom got in to the 20s.  Then, after tea, the side defended their total, bowling out their hosts for 129.  The wickets were shared around, with Noaman and Beast both grabbing "3-fors".

This was a strange one!  Today's league match at Glenpark was a bizarre encounter as, first, the home side slumped to 66 for 7 having been 57 for 0, before then recovering to post 144.   Then the 'Loc's reply started where the Greenock mid-innings left off with the side collpasing to 0 for 2, and then 23 for 5.  However unlike Greenock, the 'Loc didn't have anyone who was willing, and/or able, to dig in a make a score, and their reply petered out in a whimper to see them bowled out for just 76.

After the disappointment of the cancellation of the Shawholm XI's at Marress earlier in the day, there was further frustration for the club when the 'Loc's home league clash with Irvine was abandoned with the side looking well-placed having bowled out the Ayrshire side for 95 and being set 102 to win from 36 overs under D/L.  However the chance to win never actually materialised with the 'Loc batters not getting out to the middle as persistent rain prevented the resumption of play after the innings break.  Frustrating.  In what game was played, the encouragement must be another decent bowling performance, especially given the very wet conditions.  Stand-out bowlers were Bredders who returned figures of 8-4-7-4, and Izzy who took 3 for 24. We've also got some photo's from today's match in the Gallery.

It's a busy cricket weekend, starting with the Under 11s hosting Weirs on Friday, at the same time as the Under 15s travel to play Glasgow Accies.  Saturday then sees home and away league matches against Irvine, and Sunday is Scottish Cup first round day, SMRH visiting Shawholm.  Teams are online now, selected players names being added as they confirm.

Progression in the Rowan Cup [posted 14/05/15]

WDCU_logo

Tonight saw the second of back-to-back cup ties for the 'Loc.  And, pleasingly, the side goes in to the weekend still unbeaten. Irvine were the visitors to Shawholm this evening in the Rowan Cup, the visiting skipper calling wrongly and finding his team in the field.  After Owais went early, Chris' (56*) and Pasty (76) dominated the rest of the first innings as 153 for 2 was posted.  Chasing down this score proved too much for Irvine after the break as the Ayrshire side finished 39 runs short of their target.

The 'Loc now await news of the quarter-final draw.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Derby win for the 'Loc [posted 13/05/15]

WDCU_logo

Toytown was the venue for the latest - and this season's first - Rebel Alliance versus Empire clash.  The competition was the West League Cup, all shiny and new with pink balls now mandatory.  And the pleasing news is that this latest skirmish resulted in a win for the 'Loc.  After winning the toss, the side posted 130 for 7 with Pasty top-scoring with a well-paced 46 not out, Scotty bunting 37 and Flanners chipping in with 18.

Then in the Dark Side reply Bredders' 4 for 12 was the pick of the bowling figures Clydesdale were bundled out for 92.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Another day, another cup win [posted 13/05/15]

Under_15_ECB_Cup_logo

Less than 24 hours since securing progress in the Under 13 ECB Cup at Hamilton Crescent, the Under 15s were in action in their version of the same competition, with West of Scotland again the opposition.  However this time the match was at Shawholm.  With both sides missing key players, there was opportunity for younger players to step up to the plate.

And pleasingly it was the 15s who came through, chasing 86 for the win with eight wickets in hand.  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Scotland Under 19 selection [posted 13/05/15]

The club's delighted that Ihtisham Malik and Owais Shah have been selected for the Scotland Under 19 squad to take on Durham CCC 's Academy this week in three one-day matches at Bothwell Castle Policies.  Tuesday saw a weather-affected loss to the English County Academy side, but the young Scots bounced back today, defeating Durham in the second match with Owais top-scoring with 63.

Cup win [posted 12/05/15]

The Under 13s returned from the north-side tonight having progressed in the ECB Cup after a win over West of Scotland.  Batting first, and with an unbeaten 33 from Sobo as its cornerstone, a total of 104 for 4 was posted.  Then in the second innings the home side were restricted to 70 for 5 in their reply to see the 13s run out 34-run winners.  They now travel to Stirling County in the next round.

There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Under 16Bs start off with a win [posted 11/05/15]

WDJCU_ logo

The Under 16B side kicked-off their participation in this year's league - a new age-group league introduced by the WDJCU this season - with a win down at the Henry Thow Oval against Prestwick.  Chasing 120 to win, the side reached their target with over four overs to spare, and by ten wickets, with Abdullah 61 not out and Uzzair unbeaten on 41.  The first innings had seen Amaan take a "3-for".  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Back-to-back wins for the Shawholm XI [posted 09/05/15]

The Shawholm XI continued on their winning ways today with an eventual 89-run win over St. Michael's Kingholm XI at home.  Batting first, Stiffy's 63 was the foundation for a final total of 205 being posted, Irfan chipping in with 40, and Mushy a cameo 21 in an important 62-run partnership with Elliott (pictured left).   Then in the Kingholm XI reply "3-fors" for Aliyan and Mushy were the biggest wicket hauls as the visitors were dismissed for 116 in the 32nd over.

There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard, and some photo's from the match in the Gallery, here.

Cancellation [posted 09/05/15]

Today's match at Kingholm between the 'Loc and St. Michael's was a victim of the heavy overnight rain that affected - in particular - the south-west of the country.  An early call from St. Michael's this morning confirmed that  - as this video shows - the ground had been left unplayable.

Defeat on the north-side [posted 08/05/15]

After the Irvine|Kilmarnock combined team provisionally their Under 11 match with the club on Wednesday evening, the entirety of junior attention tonight was on the 15s' trip to Hamilton Crescent.  Unfortunately the side were blinded by the spotlight and slumped to a convincing 40-run loss.  There's a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Under 13s get their season off to a winning start [posted 04/05/15]

The Under 13s were in League Cup action this evening, entertaining Ayr.  After Ayr had recovered from 14 for 4 to post a more-than-competitive 100 for 9, the 13s then completed a nail-biting run-chase, Moiz cutting the penultimate delivery of the match for the needed 2 runs through point.  There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the match scorecard.

Win for the 'Loc to complete Saturday double [posted 02/05/15]

WDCU_logo

With the Shawholm XI having already secured their win over at Albert Park in the "mirror" fixture, the 'Loc made it a double-win-Saturday by completing a five-wicket win over Weirs at Shawholm.  Chasing 189 to win, 95 from Chris' was the foundation of a good run-chase that saw the win secured with just under twenty overs to spare.  In the first innings, Ihty had grabbed a "4-for", and Niel made 44 to see him up-and-running too.

There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Shawholm start with a win [posted 02/05/15]

WDCU_logo

The Shawholm XI started a new league season today with a short trip to Albert Park to take on their Weirs counterparts.  After losing the toss, Abhi' found his side in the field.  A good start with the ball, on a tricky wicket, saw the the home side collapse to 19 for 5 before recovering to post 93.  Aliyan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 7-4-6-3.  The run-chase proved fairly straight-forward with the winning post passed in the sixteenth over, Irfan top-scoring with 37.

There is a short match report online, along with updated statistics and the scorecard.

Final pre-season game [posted 26/04/15]

Today saw the club's final pre-season match played, an away day trip over the river to Hamilton Crescent and a 40 overs-a-side match with a West of Scotland XI.  The match provided an opportunity for some of the players who missed out yesterday after the Bothwell XI called off the game at Shawholm, in some instances their first run outs of season 2015.  The match ended in defeat by eight wickets, with the hosts chasing 152 inside 33 overs.  A brief match report's online, as are updated statistics and the scorecard.

Representative squad involvements [posted 26/04/15]

The club's got a number of players involved in representative squad sessions today, with Ahmed-Raza Hanif, Calum James, Aliyan Qureshi and Uzzair Shah all involved with the Western Warriors Under 15 squad, and Ihtisham Malik and Owais Shah, who've been training with Scotland Under 19 winter training squad, joining Craig Young at a Reivers squad session today.  It's always pleasing to see the club's players involved in these squads, and at these levels - congratulations to each of them.

Another decent run out [posted 25/04/15]

After last Saturday's pre-season match down at Prestwick - blessed by cracking weather - it was an altogether chillier day that saw a Poloc XI make the short trip along the M8 to Uddingston for the annual Eric Lane Memorial Trophy match.  Another side containing younger and more inexperienced players was selected, and so an eventual defeat by 40 runs against a Premier Division side full of experience - like seven days previously - was a result that contained a number of positives.  In the home side's innings there were decent opening spells from Ihty and Aliyan, before Abhi' bowled ten overs straight through, and Chris' ("3-for") and Pasty ("4-for") cashed in on the wickets front.  In the reply Ihty's unbeaten 38 and Chris's cameo 29 were the main contributions.  A brief match report's online, as are updated statistics and the scorecard

Season gets underway [posted 18/04/15]

Season 2015's officially underway, with today's sun-kissed pre-season friendly taking place down in Prestwick at the eponymous Ayrshire club's Henry Thow Oval.  The Poloc XI featured five juniors, in what turned out to be a competitive fixture against a strong home side.  Batting first after being inserted, the Poloc XI posted 220 for 8 in their 50 overs, a total that the home side passed with just under five overs in hand.  Top-scorer for the Poloc XI was Owais Shah, with 63, whilst home side skipper Rafiq bludgeoned an unbeaten 83 to see his side home.  Of the six Prestwick wickets to fall four were captured on debut by Azeem Akbar.  A brief match report's online, as are statistics and the scorecard.

Junior outdoor training and coaching [posted 15/04/15]

After the short break for the Easter school holiday, junior training and coaching resumes next week.  We'll be carrying out our annual registration process next week too.  First up, and back outdoors after a long winter indoors, are the Under 11 group, who'll resume their traditional Monday evening slot between 6pm and 7.30pm.  Then on Wednesday the Under 13 and Under 15 groups will train - again at their time - between 6.30pm and 8pm.

As next week's sessions are the first of a new outdoor season, players and parents are reminded that their 2015 membership fees/subscriptions are now due.  A junior fee is just £75, with brothers or sisters paying just £35.  Also required at this time of the year are updated registration forms.  Again players and parents are reminded of this, and are asked to download a registration form and complete this, and bring it next week along with their 2015 membership subscriptions.  Registration forms can be found online here, or by clicking on the .pdf download link button above, left.

Still to arrive is coaching professional Niel Bredenkamp (pictured left).  Also hailing from South Africa, 27 year old Niel plays his domestic First Class cricket with North West, and comes to the club after three previous successful seasons in UK club cricket.  More about both players can be found online.

Outdoor training [posted 08/04/15]

The first senior outdoor training session will be this coming Tuesday.  From 6.30pm we'll be attending to some pre-season admin', including collecting player subscriptions and updating registration photo's and membership details, before - weather-permitting - doing some outdoor training for the first time this season.  After six months indoors, it's always entertaining - as well as a bit of a shock to the system - when we get restarted outdoors!  Senior players are all invited to come along on Tuesday, on time to start at 6.30pm, and with their subscriptions.  Remember you can also pay your subscriptions online here, using your debit or credit card, and remember too that until a player pays their subscription they can't be selected to play in a match.

Vandalism [posted 25/02/15]

It was disappointing to discover, this morning, that the clubhouse has been vandalised.  Three of the front windows (see below) have been broken, with glass debris littering the spectator seating area.  Fortunately it appears that it was "just" an act of vandalism, and not a break-in, or attempted break-in, and in each instance only the outer of the two panes in the double-glazed unit was broken meaning that the clubhouse itself remains wind and water-tight.  Thanks to Russell Lauder and Kenneth Robertson for their work today in dealing with the matter, for liasing with the Police, and beginning the process of organising repair work.

Quiz Night, Saturday the 24th of January [posted 04/01/15]

We're kick-starting 2015 with a Quiz Night, and want to encourage as many people as possible to come along.  The date's Saturday the 24th of January, and the start time's 7.30pm.  There'll be food (all halal) served, a raffle, and the quiz qill run until around 11.30pm.  Teams of five are needed, with tickets priced at £10 a person (or - obviously - £50 per team).  This includes the cost of the food.  We're looking for up to twenty teams which'd be 100 people.  The quiz is a great opportunity to bring friends and family along to the club, for a fun and relaxed event.  And, twenty teams is actually only twenty members bringing four friends each - how hard's that!  Please let Emily Coyle, Kenneth Robertson, Keith Sheridan or Keith Young know ASAP if you're coming along, and if there are any dietary requirements for your team.
