latest golf section agm
you know, i remember with fondness the well-run agm's under hon' sec' coyle. to say this annual event in the section's calendar has lost a little in the decorum stakes would be an understatement. and so it was as cdam tried to control matters on saturday in the clubhouse. if it wasn't the hon' treasurer rustling in his carrier bag or the quaich winner going in the huff at the lack of official photographer, it was the shabby dismissal of the out-going captain by the role's latest incumbent! great stuff!

a.o.[c?]b. included healthy debate over attendance at comp's and ways in which this could be encouraged. the hon' sec' reiterated that medal tee'ing off would be from the first other than "in exceptional circumstances" [ed: we assume that means whenever] and it was agreed that medal groupings would be reduced from four-balls to three-balls to speed things up.
other discussion centered on trying to add to the very successful matches played against other clubs - the dark side battle and feegie clashes being great events that were thoroughly enjoyed. haggs gc will be contacted by gk, and resurrecting the match versus ayr cc was also mentioned.
a final note: thanks were - rightly - given and minuted in respect of adsy's power of work on the greens, and mossy's work in this regard. said moss also getting a mention in the captain's dispatches as - very like - being the only golfer anyone could think of who could score 61 one week, and 101 the next!

the third saturday in february every year. get it in your diary, mobile phone, blackberry, golf section fixture card (mr hon' sec'!) or whatever reminder mechanisms you use, because, following the great success of this first ever fixture, both clubs have agreed that it should now be an annual event. this is excellent news and we are pleased that this can be inked in to the calendar. both sets of players appeared to genuinely enjoy the day. hopefully clydesdale will follow suit and commit to a regular slot too.
we were mercifully blessed with excellent calm sunny wintry conditions which led to some excellent match ups. three of the six games went to the 18th green and only one game being slightly one sided. the final score i hear you ask? …poloc two-and-a-half ferguslie three-and-a-half. a good natured yet competitive contest ended with the last match on the course halving their game to share points with the ferguslie pairing finishing birdie birdie to claim a half point having been dormie two down.
congratulations to ferguslie on a fine wine in a close contest.
so delighted were they that skipper "joe" kennedy promised that next year they would put up a trophy for the annual contest on the basis that they can carve ferguslie onto it before next year's fixture. the cynics amongst us might wonder if this gesture were forthcoming if the result was reversed!! a noble gesture none the less and we very much look forward to playing for that particular gong next year. answers on a postcard as to what the trophy should be called. fergloc cup?, pollie trophy?, shawlie shield?, fergholm globe?, the kennedy duncanson demitasse? the suggestions go on and on.
our indebted thanks once more to ian adshead for having the policies look so good – almost cricket good in february! also to his sidekick the fergholm groundsman colin scott (questions were asked as to who exactly he was playing for – was it 13 against 11?). adsy also donated the cheeseboards and port and ian kennedy six bottles of fine wine for the cause. to the coyle family as ever, some spectacular fare was served up and thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially the ferguslie lads who i think weren’t quite fully briefed in advance of the day’s formalities. you’ll know the script next year and not have to have a dinner at poloc and rush away to have another one with the wife (rab)!
well done to all – a good day.
